elcome to our annual Gentlemen’s Issue featuring the legendary Kevin Costner on the cover. This ruggedly handsome Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker has recently ventured into documentary filmmaking with his new project, Yellowstone to Yosemite. This three-part limited television series focuses on Yosemite National Park and the legacy of its founding and preservation while showcasing breathtaking visuals of iconic geology, flora, and fauna, spanning from Glacier Point to El Capitan to Yosemite Falls. Streaming on FOX Nation, the series is both captivating and inspirational. Watching it was educational, as it is packed with fascinating information about the birth of this national treasure and the history that followed as a result of preserving this natural masterpiece.
Renowned for his robust major motion picture career, Costner has starred in several critically acclaimed films including Dances with Wolves, Field of Dreams, The Untouchables, Bull Durham, JFK, The Bodyguard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Silverado, Open Range, Wyatt Earp, and Tin Cup, plus the miniseries Hatfields & McCoys. His work in Paramount Network’s Yellowstone marked his first regular television role and earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2023. The hit program was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Drama Series Ensemble. Costner has also won two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes for his performance in and directing of Dances with Wolves, an Emmy, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in Hatfields & McCoys, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in Hidden Figures. His latest film, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, premiered in June 2024. It is a great honor to publish this story written and curated by Jordan Staggs, “Yellowstone to Yosemite: Celebrating America’s National Parks.”
The United States is home to sixty-three national parks, all designated and managed by the National Park Service. These parks showcase a variety of landscapes, ranging from the Grand Canyon to the Everglades, and include diverse ecosystems such as mountain ranges, ancient forests, arid deserts, and bountiful coastlines. Including these parks, the National Park Service oversees more than four hundred properties, including national monuments, historical parks, and national battlefields. Including these national parks, the National Park Service manages over four hundred properties, encompassing national monuments, historical parks, and national battlefields. It’s time to take our cues from Kevin Costner and explore our countryside, as it is truly a spectacular
sight. “America the Beautiful” awaits our attention, and I am eager to begin the journey to see as much as possible.
This issue is dedicated to honoring good men everywhere. We hope you feel appreciated with every turn of the page. Personally, I am fortunate to be married to a true gentleman who, time and time again, demonstrates to me the meaning of love.

I learned to cook from my grandmother, my mother, and my uncle—all proud New Orleanians whose love for food shaped my passion for being in the kitchen. From them, I inherited more than recipes; I inherited soul. My grandmother taught me patience through gumbo that simmered all day. My mother passed down the elegance of Creole flavors and Sunday meals filled with love. My uncle, bold and creative, showed me how to improvise with spice and flair. Each of them influenced my cooking with their stories, roots, and pride in our culture. Their legacy lives on in every dish I create.

illuminates how you can be cut from the same cloth yet so individually unique. Their energy and spirit drive me to push harder and to be a better version of myself. Doing life alongside them makes me so much more observant about the little things we most often overlook. Seeing life through their eyes really is the best! Unfiltered honesty and imagination!

My mom is the most inspiring person to me! She always finds a way to turn a problem or tricky situation into something good and positive. She sees the glass half full and won’t let herself get worked up over something small. She still has so much joy for life and experiences, continuing to travel and see new sights. Obviously, I’m biased because she raised my brother and me. Still, she always made a point to be a part of every sporting event and gathering and to be emotionally available to us while also working hard on her career.

he reason I wanted to be a part of this story, starting even with Yellowstone, was because they’re a part of our DNA. They’re part of our fabric. And the reality is we don’t even know the struggle, the inspiration, the guts—what was at risk for those who thought to do something differently.” This sentiment from actor Kevin Costner describes his mission to share the beauty of America’s National Parks and why their preservation is integral to the environment and humanity’s soul. His connection to and desire to protect nature has been known to the public since Costner’s early Hollywood days, and in 2022, he teamed up with executive producer Marc Pierce to film the four-part FOX Nation series, Yellowstone One-Fifty. This year, they explored another famous park to retrace historical steps in Yellowstone to Yosemite with Kevin Costner, which debuted on FOX Nation in February.
The goal of both series, Pierce and Costner share, is to tell the stories of these iconic National Parks through the lens of those who explored their lands and advocated for their creation in the first place. “We started this journey with Kevin telling the story of how Ferdinand Hayden and his expedition so impacted the preservation of what is now Yellowstone National Park,” Pierce says, referring to Yellowstone One-Fifty. “And when audiences responded so strongly to that story, we researched other stories around the formation of the many other National Parks, not really expecting to find a story as compelling as Hayden. But when we dug deeper into the Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir
story in Yosemite, we knew we’d struck gold again. We shared it with Kevin, and he immediately agreed that it was a story we wanted to tell.”
Costner shares, “We know Ferdinand Hayden, going into Yellowstone, was there to destroy it—to find a path for a railroad, to look for gold.” But Yellowstone One-Fifty tells the story of how that expedition turned into a revelation when Hayden
“YELLOWSTONE ONEFIFTY TELLS THE STORY OF HOW THAT EXPEDITION TURNED INTO A REVELATION WHEN HAYDEN BECAME AWESTRUCK WITH THE AREA’S BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES, WILDLIFE, AND UNIQUE NATURAL WONDERS.”
became awestruck with the area’s beautiful landscapes, wildlife, and unique natural wonders. “And that’s what nature does,” Costner continues. “Part of the awe that comes from being in Yosemite … Muir understood so clearly, if he could just get Teddy there, into this spot on El Capitan, to see what he saw. [He understood] that, knowing who Teddy was, it would change the trajectory of the national park system that had fallen into disarray. Yellowstone was this beautiful idea. But all the mechanics, all the actual fundamentals of having the park system work weren’t in place. And it would require a law, because people were still rummaging around these incredible, beautiful places, doing things that had to be stopped.”
John Muir, a Scottish-born American mountaineer, writer, naturalist, and inventor, is largely known as the “Father of the National Parks.” He heavily advocated for the preservation of natural areas, including Yosemite, Sequoia, Mount Rainier, and the Grand Canyon, to name a few. And while Yosemite was named a national park in 1890, thanks in great part to Muir’s efforts, it wasn’t until 1903 that President Theodore Roosevelt accompanied the mountaineer there to see its wonder for himself. This is where Yellowstone to Yosemite picks up the story. Thanks to
that fateful journey, Roosevelt was convinced the best way to preserve America’s national parks was through a federally backed program. The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) was officially established by his successor, Woodrow Wilson, in 1916, but its creation is a direct result of Roosevelt’s efforts.
Roosevelt is quoted as saying in a speech after his 1903 trip with Muir, “Lying out at night under those giant Sequoias was like lying in a temple built by no hand of man, a temple grander than any human architect could by any possibility build.”
Costner continues, “Here was Yosemite—this place that was undeniably beautiful. And the foundation of [protective efforts] in Yellowstone, like I said, was not in place, and people were taking advantage of it. It took Muir to lure Teddy Roosevelt to Yosemite, and it was Teddy who took this great idea and somehow, ultimately, truly protected it. For thirty years, Yellowstone was being kind of ravaged on a slight level. But Teddy created, with the national forests and the five national parks, this infrastructure that was designed to protect the system. I wanted to be a part of telling their story, which has become so important to me as a man. I can now bring my children to these places, and they will be able to bring their children to these places. I want to do my part, my small part, for what these men risked so long ago.”
Yellowstone to Yosemite documents Costner’s camping and hiking voyage through Yosemite with his dog, Bobby, to tell Muir and Roosevelt’s story. Along the way, the series explores the area’s history, from Indigenous American peoples to explorers and today’s status as part of the NPS. Sweeping vistas such as Yosemite Falls, the El Capitan summit, Glacier Point, and more offer a look at the California park’s most iconic landmarks.
In Yellowstone OneFifty, Costner took viewers on a journey following Ferdinand Hayden’s trip through Yellowstone. Yellowstone to Yosemite follows a similar concept as he retraces the steps of John Muir and President Theodore Roosevelt. Both series are streaming on FOX Nation.
“‘OUR FINGERPRINTS AS AMERICANS ARE ALL OVER OUR MISTREATMENT OF THE FIRST PEOPLE WHO INHABITED AMERICA,’ COSTNER SAYS. ‘AND I’M NOT AFRAID TO BE A PART OF THAT STORY—I AM NOT AFRAID TO TELL IT.”
The project also examines some darker and more difficult parts of the park’s history. “Our fingerprints as Americans are all over our mistreatment of the first people who inhabited America,” Costner says. “And I’m not afraid to be a part of that story—I am not afraid to tell it. I don’t think that I am somebody who is reinventing history; I don’t think I am somebody who has been put here to teach it. I just wanted to be part of the story because I wanted it to stay alive. Our national appetite has been at the expense of other people. But the second half of the story is that it was so beautiful that I could see [Yosemite] as a child, untouched, the same way the first people lived it for seven thousand years. I never know how to make sense of this story, but I know one thing: I thank God that Yosemite is still the way He created it.”
For Pierce and Costner, the endeavor to create Yellowstone One-Fifty and Yellowstone to Yosemite started with their love of these gorgeous American treasures, dating back to childhood for both of them. “My first park was Sequoia, where trees were as large as the famous picture shows that a car can drive through it, and I myself was little,” Costner recalls. “As a small child, I thought to myself,
“I NEVER KNOW HOW TO MAKE SENSE OF THIS STORY, BUT I KNOW ONE THING: I THANK GOD THAT YOSEMITE IS STILL THE WAY HE CREATED IT.”
‘My God, this is the biggest thing maybe I have ever seen in my life, so big that even a car can drive through it.’ I was lucky. Do you realize that? I was lucky someone had made a decision along the way to protect this.”
Pierce was born in the Midwest but “got to the mountains as soon as I could,” he laughs. “I’ve lived, worked, and raised my family in Montana. Being an outdoors type, I hosted hunting and
fishing television shows in the early 2000s and, in the process, learned how that kind of television was made. One of my producers and I decided to start our own company, Warm Springs, and after initially focusing only on outdoor adventure stuff, we pivoted to more broadly viewed programming. Since then, we’ve produced over fifty series for Discovery, Nat Geo, History, HGTV, Science, Travel, Animal Planet, Magnolia, Max, Hulu, and more.”
His favorite National Park, he shares, is undoubtedly Yellowstone. “My wife was born and raised in West Yellowstone, and I lived within a few hours of the park for most of my life. We’ve made tremendous memories there. I was there yesterday, looking for the first grizzly bears of spring.”
Pierce says telling these stories together through FOX Nation, the on-demand streaming service by FOX News Channel, was a no-brainer. “FOX
I WAS LUCKY. DO YOU REALIZE THAT? I WAS LUCKY SOMEONE HAD MADE A DECISION ALONG THE WAY TO PROTECT THIS.
Nation is one of the very best platforms for history-based series. Its audience really shows up for a program that unpacks a great story about something or someone who made a difference in America or the world.”
Not only telling the story of people like Hayden, Muir, and Roosevelt in America’s National Parks, the series aims to help viewers learn how they can follow in the footsteps to protect these wild spaces.
“I think the best thing any of us can do is just to spend time in these magnificent places,” Pierce says. “The more you get to know them, to appreciate them, the more you will value them for what they are: crown jewels of America.”
Visitation to National Parks has been at an alltime high over the past several years. In 2024, the National Park Service recorded 331.9 million recreation visits, surpassing the previous record of 330.9 million set in 2016. But even with those numbers, the parks are facing challenges that could affect operations, such as budget and staff shortages, overcrowding of tourists, natural disasters, environmental changes, wildlife incidents, and more.
When asked why he thinks the National Parks are seeing more visitors than ever, Costner responded, “It’s because I believe they speak to us out loud.”
He goes on to elaborate, “There are things that nature takes over. It informs you of decisions that factor into the way you live your day: You get up. You’re cold. You find your coat, you get a fire going. You get your food, you cook it. You go have fun. Halfway through the day, you start thinking about that night—if it’s going to rain. There are things that happen that don’t happen in the way you normally conduct your life. And what you inevitably find out, when you are driving away from a national forest or a camping trip, there’s something most everybody says: ‘Why don’t we do this more?’”
Yellowstone One-Fifty and Yellowstone to Yosemite are all about sharing that feeling with the audience.
“When we see [a national park], we simply can’t believe it—and when we can’t believe something, it touches us,” Costner goes on. “One thing we do as human beings is wish more than anything that the people we love who aren’t with us could come see the same thing we just saw.”
Pierce hints there could be more collaborations in their future, while Costner is working on future installments of his Old West-inspired film series, Horizon: An American Saga, the first of which premiered in 2024. Whether through the lens or in person, the duo hope people will get outside more and visit the National Parks and any park or outdoor space that will inspire them to live more connected with nature. With the future of the National Park Service uncertain, modern-day John Muirs and Teddy Roosevelts could make all the difference in saving them.
Yellowstone to Yosemite with Kevin Costner is now streaming on FOX Nation. Visit Nation.FOXNews.com to subscribe. Follow @kevincostner and @warmspringsproductions to learn more about Costner and Pierce’s latest projects.

ooper Murray founded the Vineyard Series at the end of 2020 while he was a college sophomore, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong desire to unite a like-minded community. “The original vision was to create a two-hour Sunday morning event on Martha’s Vineyard with thirty Classic Land Rovers,” he explains. “This sort of thing had never been done on the island before—let alone really anywhere in the country.” The inaugural event in August of 2021 quickly captured the attention of Land Rover fans nationwide, with the expected thirty vintage Land Rovers transforming into eighty, representing over fifteen different states. In 2022, Murray expanded the series to Cape Cod and Nantucket, and by 2024, he took it bicoastal, adding events in Charleston, South Carolina, and Montecito, California.
It’s fitting that the first event of the Vineyard Series was held on Martha’s Vineyard, as that is where Murray’s passion for Land Rovers began. “I’ve been obsessed with vintage Defenders for as long as I can remember,” he begins. “I grew up spending summers on the island with my family, where we always had either a vintage Jeep or Land Rover. Martha’s Vineyard has a high concentration of these old Land Rovers, which only amplified my interest in them.”
“As much as I might like to say otherwise, I live and breathe Classic Land Rovers,” Murray admits. While the aesthetic appeal naturally draws in car enthusiasts, he finds the history even more captivating.
Today, Land Rovers can be found in every corner of the world. Even before their global expansion, they were highly sought after by notable figures such as Bob Marley, Queen Elizabeth II, and Ralph Lauren.
BY HAILEY BETHKE | PHOTOGRAPHY BY COOPER MURRAY AND SPENCER
“Land Rovers fought and won wars, starred in movies, and crossed terrain that no other vehicle could previously pass. Now, decades later, these trucks have taken on a new life. But history is rarely forgotten. Some Land Rovers driving around Scenic Highway 30-A likely drove across the Sahara Desert thirty years ago.”
The Vineyard Series has partnered with Adventure Motorcars in Birmingham, Alabama, to host its inaugural event in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, in April 2025.
Stephen Ogletree, the owner and founder of Adventure Motorcars, has long been a supporter and attendee of the 30A Sand Rover Rally, which attracted vintage car enthusiasts from the Southeast for nearly a decade before concluding in 2023. Around that time, Ogletree and Murray connected to discuss how their brands could collaborate to create a similar lifestyle event in the area.
The two collaborated to host The North American Series, highlighting the Defender models specifically designed for the U.S. market. “Technically speaking, North American Specification Defenders had a few major differences from most of their international counterparts, such as Gas V8 engines, added safety features to meet US regulations, new colors, and air conditioning,” Murray says. “But what makes them most special and desirable is that they are ultra-limited.”
Between 1993 and 1997, only about seven thousand vehicles were manufactured. The Defender 110 was produced solely in 1993, with only five hundred thirtyfour units available for North American buyers. Each model introduced a new limited-edition feature, enhancing exclusivity and reinforcing Land Rover’s signature cool factor.
For instance, in 1997, the Defender 90 NAS was released in an exclusive run of Willow Green, with only three hundred units available for purchase. Similarly, in 1994, fewer than one hundred ninety soft-top models were produced in the limited-edition color Arles Blue. This aspect of rarity makes NAS Defenders highly collectible and sought after globally. Each vehicle has a badge number, such as NAS Defender 110 #114/500, to highlight its uniqueness and rarity.
Today, any Defender model can be imported to the United States as long as it is twenty-five years old or older. This means that the Land Rovers you see on the roads come from various parts of the globe, beyond the specifications designed for the North American Market. While this has lessened the rarity of Land Rover Defenders in the USA, consumer excitement for the ultra-limited NAS Defender remains high.
Murray and Ogletree in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, would be the ideal location to host the North American Series. This event would not only continue the legacy of the Sand Rover Rally but also provide Land Rover enthusiasts with a fresh and curated experience in a town already abundant with NAS models.
Of course, there are countless Classic Land Rover events across the U.S., many of which Murray attends regularly. But what sets the Vineyard Series apart is the lifestyle, visionary approach that appeals to both seasoned Land Rover enthusiasts and curious passersby. Rather than off-roading, there’s a greater emphasis on quality craftsmanship and an almost art-like appreciation.
The April 2025 event at Gulf Place marked the largest gathering of NAS Defenders in history, featuring over thirty-five vehicles, including all nine standard colors from eleven states. Ogletree and Murray expressed excitement about uniting such a unique group of owners and guests. Just a few hours later, meaningful friendships were formed, business deals were made, and new events began to take shape.
Among those who genuinely appreciate NAS Defenders, there’s an unspoken code: you’ve got to be grounded and effortlessly cool, just like the vehicles themselves. Conversations unfold naturally, bound by a shared reverence and deep-rooted passion for these iconic builds.
The next waypoint for the Vineyard Series? A return to 30-A in 2026, for starters. Murray has a comprehensive vision of more vehicles, exclusive partnerships, and bespoke touches that he hopes to bring back to the beach next year. This summer also marks the fifth anniversary of the flagship event on Martha’s Vineyard, which will host over one hundred Land Rovers for a three-day event.
To connect with Murray and see a complete list of upcoming Vineyard Series events, please head to TheVineyardSeries.com and follow along on Instagram @vineyardseries.

“In a country with some of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders, there is a shocking lack of luxury accommodations that provide access to these beautiful places. Our luxury tented camp was created to do something about that,” shares Jackson. “From the fully inclusive culinary delights and creature comforts to the moments of sipping whiskey around the fire and warm hospitality, we are all about elevating the experience. We believe in making the rugged outdoors a comfortable and serene setting, always in a completely private way. From the bed you sleep on to the view outside your tent, every aspect of your camp is curated by the camping EXPerts.”
For 2025, EXP has highlighted three National Parks across North America, offering discerning travelers exclusive access to unique, remote landscapes.
Capitol Reef National Park
Capitol Reef National Park is often the most overlooked of the five national parks in Utah, but it is an EXP Journeys favorite. Unlike the crowds in Zion National Park or the parks near Moab, Capitol Reef sees a fraction of the tourists but offers unimaginable natural wonders. It’s not impossible to go hiking and rarely see another person on the trail. No reservations are needed, and the beautiful town of Torrey, Utah, is a great place to rest your head after a day of hiking, canyoneering, and taking in the stunning landscape. Defined by the striking Waterpocket Fold—a ninety-mile-long geologic wrinkle—Capitol Reef National Park was established to protect this grand and colorful geologic feature and the spectacular eroded jumble of cliffs, domes, monoliths, twisting canyons, and graceful arches. The Fold extends seventy miles from Thousand Lake Mountain to the Colorado River (now Lake Powell).
Visitors can enjoy hundreds of miles of trails and unpaved roads into the scenic backcountry. While the park is worth visiting year-round, the best time of year to visit Capitol Reef National Park is often considered March through June or September through October.
Spanning more than six million acres, Denali National Park epitomizes the raw and untamed beauty of Alaska. Home to North America’s tallest peak, Denali offers an extraordinary wilderness experience where vast glaciers, snow-capped mountains, and roaming wildlife create an adventurer’s paradise. Beyond its legendary hiking trails, visitors can embark on aerial tours, witness the northern lights, and paddle through pristine waters. Chelatna Lake, a premier fishing destination, teems with Pacific salmon, trout, and grayling. Visitors can take a kayak, SUP board, or raft out on the water. The best time to explore Denali is from June to August, when the days are long and wildlife is most active.
For families seeking an unforgettable escape, Glacier National Park stands as an unrivaled choice. Spanning over a million acres in Montana’s Rocky Mountains, this pristine wilderness was shaped by ancient glaciers, creating a dramatic landscape of rugged peaks, alpine lakes, and sweeping valleys. The iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road offers a mesmerizing drive through towering summits and cascading waterfalls. Families can enjoy leisurely hikes along
the Trail of the Cedars, explore Lake McDonald by boat, or take part in the Junior Ranger Program— engaging young adventurers in the park’s rich natural history. Wildlife sightings abound, from mountain goats and grizzly bears to elusive wolverines and lynx. The prime season for visiting Glacier National Park is mid-June through mid-September.
According to Jackson, “Glacier National Park inspires families to explore, learn, and connect, creating memories that last a lifetime. Exploring this 1,583-square-mile wilderness area in Montana’s Rocky Mountains with an EXP guide provides knowledgeable access to a tremendous amount of hiking trails, alpine lakes, cycling opportunities, and wildlife watching. One amazingly scenic trek is to Avalanche Lake, where massive mountains surround the lake.”
Get the full experience with EXP Journeys’ “Secrets of the National Parks” nine-day itinerary, featuring luxury accommodations and travel for four guests, starting at $375,000. Visit EXPJourneys.com, call (858) 356-9411, or email hello@expjourneys.com to learn more.
In just twenty-five years, Richard Mille has changed the world of luxury watches. Richard Mille: The Impossible Collection, a new luxury coffee-table book by Assouline, brings together seventy-nine of the brand’s most iconic pieces, handpicked by Fabienne Reybaud. From the groundbreaking RM 001 to the stunning RM 16-02, these timepieces showcase Richard Mille’s passion for innovation and craftsmanship. The brand’s collaborations with legends like tennis pro Rafael Nadal (who wears the RM 27-03 on the court) and golfer Bubba Watson demonstrate its dedication to both performance and style. Each timepiece is a masterpiece built to push the limits of technology and design.
“The love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth, the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only paradise we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need, if only we had the eyes to see.”
Edward Abbey
Visions of Paradise: American Wilderness is a singular, timeless publication— a photographic masterpiece celebrating the extraordinary majesty and rich legacy of America’s wild places, as seen through the eyes of one of the country’s foremost wilderness photographers, Jon Ortner, and conveyed through the transcendent medium of black-and-white film.
When contemplating our attraction to nature’s sacred places, writer and conservationist Terry Tempest Williams may have put it best when she stated, “Wildness reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from.” Perhaps this connection may be why over three hundred million people visit state and national parks every year and why hundreds of millions more explore other wilderness areas, national forests, and nature preserves. We seek refuge in these captivating places, including during times of upheaval and uncertainty, because our yearning to commune with the elements of land, sky, and water is primordial and powerful—a yearning faithfully fulfilled by nature’s ability to excite, thrill, and nurture us.
We need only show up to be awed by imposing mountain ranges, stimulated by the raw power of gushing waterfalls and geysers, calmed and soothed by serene lakes and playful rivers, or inspired by stark, mysterious deserts. We bring cameras along to make timeless the profundity of our experiences and to remind ourselves after we have reentered everyday life that, for a time, we were “home.”
By Mary Kalamaris
Following his celebrated and widely published book Canyon Wilderness of the Southwest—praised by National Geographic as “exquisite,” “a visual feast,” and “a layered work of complexity”—Jon Ortner takes us home once again with his latest work, Visions of Paradise, a passionate tribute to the American wilderness that also serves as an urgent call to its continued protection and stewardship. On page after page and gatefold after gatefold of this sensational collection of two hundred black-and-white images, Ortner has rediscovered and reinterpreted the compelling beauty of many of his most cherished wilderness locations with remarkable portrayals of their sublime, dramatic, tranquil, and transcendent aspects. He celebrates America’s most humbling natural scenes—from the deserts and canyons of the Southwest to the botanical paradise of the vast deciduous forests of New England, and to the towering, ancient groves of California’s giant redwoods—by unfolding in soul-stirring images and words a spare and elegant story of a shared yet vulnerable national heritage.
In Visions of Paradise, Ortner exhibits the same intrepidness that propelled the photographers and painters of the latter 19th century to trek their way deep into nature’s most pristine and remote areas to capture scenes that would fascinate a country searching for its cultural identity, and eventually catalyze the creation of the National Parks System. The spirit of these early ambassadors is imbued in every photograph appearing in Visions of Paradise, each a testament to Ortner’s unmatched commitment to photographic excellence. Made possible only through meticulous scholarly research and planning and months-long explorations of single locations, unyielding patience and persistence, and the tenacity and determination to access difficultto-reach places rarely if ever displayed by other wilderness photographers.
Ortner’s use of black-and-white film and large-format cameras for Visions of Paradise unveils the true essence of the natural world. By peeling away color, he forces us to immerse ourselves more deeply and see anew America’s breathtaking sites through the purified language of light and shadow, form and texture, shape and pattern. These rare, distinctive photographs are further enhanced with informative essays that provide a window onto the scene and its artist-observer. Also featured are quotations by those who have so passionately conveyed the splendor, drama, and fragility of
the American wilderness—Ansel Adams, John Muir, Terry Tempest Williams, Chief Seattle, and Edward Abbey among many others—to uplift us and help us regain a vital sense of belonging to something grander than ourselves.
Visions of Paradise presents a unique opportunity to join with an acclaimed photographer on his achievement of an artistic milestone. It is sure to amaze and inspire a broad and varied audience, from lovers of nature to collectors of fine-art photography, and to anyone seeking to connect meaningfully with a treasured legacy of sacred lands. Throughout its pages, Ortner, a modern-day ambassador of the American wilderness, brilliantly shows us in imagery what Edward Abbey once put so eloquently into words—that “wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit.”
Ortner shows us this with images as monumental as the landscape he photographs.
One of the world’s leading nature and scenic photographers, Jon Ortner is the acclaimed author of eight internationally published fine-art books on topics as wideranging as the icons and architecture of Manhattan, the beauty of the human form, the sacred places and people of Southeast Asia, and the landscapes and geological wonders of the American Southwest.
Ortner’s achievements as an artist, scholar, and adventurer are especially reflective of a life committed to passionately exploring the wonders and treasures of the natural world. His intrepid youth, largely spent fascinated by the study of diverse flora and fauna, forged him into an avid, erudite naturalist and wilderness hiker. Following academic pursuits in ecology and Eastern philosophy, he established a highly successful commercial photography studio in New York City with his wife and business partner, Martha McGuire. Based in the Berkshire Mountains on the border of New York and Massachusetts, Jon and Martha currently divide their time between their worldwide journeys of discovery and commercial photography assignments.

PRIVATE RESIDENCE
From state parks and forests to quaint back streets, biking and hiking will carry you through all of South Walton’s natural beauty.
There are plenty of opportunities for exploration here, whether by getting active or simply exploring the area’s sixteen unique beach neighborhoods. Kayak or stand-up paddleboard on one of the rare coastal dune lakes. Take a lesson at the Golf Academy at Sandestin or relax on an open-air patio at a local microbrewery like Idyll Hounds Brewing Company. At the end of the day, kick back at a beach bonfire, made simple by companies such as Pirate’s Life and 30A Blaze.
Adventure awaits out on the Gulf through exciting offshore trips and inshore charters with seasoned fishing guides such as Grayton Girl, Strictly Business, and Lil Lucky. Just to the north, the Choctawhatchee Bay offers plenty of additional angling. There’s also the fun option of surf fishing, where outfitters bring all the supplies, and non-fishers can watch from a seat on the beach.
If you’re more into communing with the water, check out kayaking or paddleboarding. Walton County is well-equipped to accommodate this, as it’s interconnected by amazing bodies of water, including rivers, bays, and, of course, the Gulf. Kayaking is a quick and nimble exploration method, allowing you to maneuver easily in and out of tight spaces. Spend an afternoon paddling along local rivers or winding your way through the incredibly biodiverse cypress swamps. Butterfly Bike & Kayak in Seagrove has a nice selection of rentals, making it easy to get what you need and get going.
Alternatively, hop on a stand-up paddleboard and take a spin on one of the area’s coastal dune lakes. These scarce bodies of water are found only in a handful of locales worldwide, including Madagascar, Australia, and New Zealand. The glass-like surface offers an ideal vantage point for
spotting unique local wildlife and plants. When you’ve become obsessed with water adventure and are in the market for new gear, BŌTE in Grayton Beach has paddleboards, kayaks, skiffs, and more for sale. Adventure 30A and YOLO Board also sell equipment and provide rentals and guided tours.
For those with S.C.U.B.A. certification, Morrison Springs, just east of DeFuniak Springs, offers one of Florida’s most unique diving experiences. The main spring-fed pool is two hundred fifty feet in diameter and has crystal-clear water for optimal visibility. Three cavities for underwater exploration exist, the deepest of which is three hundred feet and leads to an underground chamber that has yet to be fully measured.
Challenge yourself on championship links at modern golf and beach resorts or at a classic course on Florida’s Historic Golf Trail. Each course incorporates unique elements of the diverse terrain, allowing you to fully interact with these stunning natural landscapes.
Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort gives you access to four championship courses from iconic designers Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Rees Jones, and Tom Jackson— including Links Golf Club, Baytowne Golf Club, Raven Golf Club, and Burnt Pine Golf Club. In all, you can explore seventy-three holes (you’ll have to play The Raven to discover the seventy-third). These courses offer spectacular views of the Choctawhatchee Bay, marshes, wetlands, and pine forests.
Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club boasts eighteen holes of “The Purest Golf in the Florida Panhandle,” according to Golf Magazine. Established in 1969, the course is designed perfectly for walking, as it meanders through beautiful natural wildlife habitats and native areas. It boasts some of the only elevation changes in the area and takes golfers within a few hundred yards of the Gulf. The course and club recently completed a multi-million-dollar renovation unveiled in 2021.
From state parks and forests to quaint back streets, biking and hiking will carry you through all of South Walton’s natural beauty. Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is home to stunning beaches and twenty-five-foot rolling dunes. The 18.6-mile Timpoochee Trail provides a free-flowing connection between these unique beach neighborhoods. Check out places like YOLO and 30A Electric Bike Co. to get set up with all the gear you need to start cruising.
From the sugar-white beaches to north of the Choctawhatchee Bay, Walton County is home to a wide variety of championship golf courses that welcome all experience levels.
Located within Seascape Resort, the 6,100-yard, par70, championship Seascape Golf Course was designed by famed course architect Joe Lee. It showcases eighteen immaculate greens and contoured fairways that wind through lush, tall pine forests. The course is also situated among freshwater and coastal dune lakes, with breathtaking views of the Gulf from many holes.
Curious about finding an exclusive membership? Watersound Club offers access to three incredible golf courses, each of which has won prestigious awards and been named to top lists. Enjoy the quiet solitude of the challenging Camp Creek Golf Course, where the well-manicured turf of the undulated fairways blends perfectly with the surrounding native plants. With an undeniable balance of nature and design, the Greg Norman-designed Shark’s Tooth Golf Course is one of forty golf clubs worldwide that have been recognized as an Audubon International “Silver Signature Sanctuary” member. And the Origins Course is a par-three Scottish-style course ideal for new golfers and family play.
In Authentic Walton, Eagle Springs Golf Course in DeFuniak Springs has been a mainstay in Walton County for the past ninety-four years and is on Florida’s Historic Golf Trail. Despite a name change in 2019, it still retains the same charm as when it was founded in 1924. Golf teams from all the local schools use it for their practices and tournaments. In addition to the eighteen-hole golf course, the 194 acres of surrounding land feature five beautiful spring-fed lakes.
“From the sugar-white beaches to north of the Choctawhatchee Bay, Walton County is home to a wide variety of championship golf courses that welcome all experience levels.”
Windswept Dunes Golf Club is home to a dramatic landscape with rolling fairways and white dunes on each hole. Player-friendly features include fairways that are often wide and generous off the tee. However, that’s not to say the course lacks a sporting obstacle. Occasional water hazards lurk along the way, and approach shots must contend with the numerous bunkers guarding the large, smooth greens.
Blackstone Golf Course combines a peaceful backdrop with a challenging design. Carved through beautiful, rolling terrain, it includes unique elevation changes and slanted fairways. The staff here strongly emphasizes service and is steadily working to improve the course.

PANAMA CITY’S RESIDENT FILM FESTIVAL
SPREADS HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
BY JORDAN STAGGS
Hope.
Everywhere we went
during Redfish Film Festival, there was a
common thread:
We
hope they love our town as much as we do. We hope they see our artistic heart. We hope they feel something, whether it’s joy, fun, motivation, pride, or a sense of community. We hope people get it.
Although documentary films can be emotionally jarring or sad, hope is what many of them convey—a look at some of the world’s most difficult situations and the people who continually work to make things better. Redfish Film Festival in Panama City, Florida, brought hope to the guests who attended its seventy-plus screenings, art installations, and parties. They saw stories on the screen that moved them to tears and laughter while also witnessing the story of a town coming into its own as it recovered from Hurricane Michael, which made landfall as a Category 5 storm in 2018. Kevin Elliott saw this moment and had a vision to create a cultural experience like no other.
“My family moved to Panama City in 1988, and when I saw the historic Martin Theater downtown, I fell in love,” says Elliott. “As a theater kid, I was always in plays and shows, and later in life, I started having this vision of putting on an event with this town as the venue. The idea became this Walt Disney World-style set, where the main street would play host to art and music and film, and all the shops and people in the community could be part of the ‘cast,’ so to speak. When Historic Downtown Panama City started to rebuild after Hurricane Michael, with Dover, Kohl & Partners doing the town planning, it was like my dream was becoming reality. I knew we could pull off an amazing festival here if we had enough local support.”
VIE founder/editorin-chief/podcast host Lisa Marie Burwell with filmmaker Carrie Lederer
And man, did the locals show up in incredible and unexpected ways. The inaugural Redfish Film Festival took place April 11 to 13, 2024, featuring documentary films submitted by local, national, and even international filmmakers. Merchants and restaurants downtown opened their doors and held special events, sold red-themed food and drinks, and more. Artists and musicians filled the streets with beautiful sights, sounds, and soul. People wore a lot of red. The response was so overwhelming that the organizers decided to add another full day of screenings to the second festival, April 24 to 27, 2025, along with more filmmaker panels, workshops, parties, and interviews. The fest also gained a new, perfectly themed presenting sponsor: Coca-Cola.
VIE was thrilled to join as the sponsor of the VIE Speaks x Redfish Film Fest Pop-Up Podcast Studio, where hosts Lisa Marie Burwell and Jordan Staggs interviewed several of the weekend’s headliners, along with Elliott himself. The guests ranged from the award-winning Northwest Florida-based climate listener Dayna Reggero to Meg Cruz and Rebecca Sirmons of NASA (yes, that NASA), celebrity true-crime podcast host and filmmaker Stephanie Harlowe, and documentary directors Carrie Lederer and Brett Whitcomb.
“The decision to make Redfish a documentary film festival was very intentional,” Elliott says. “Storytelling is at the heart of everything we want to do, and these filmmakers are telling stories from all over the world that can make a difference and move people. The diversity in this genre is also a huge plus. We curated an amazing lineup of documentaries that cover every topic, from climate change to LGBTQ rights to
local Panama City history. Our guests had such an array of films to choose from, we couldn’t be prouder. Our hope is to become the premier documentary film festival in the Southeastern United States.”
The long weekend is full of even more than the seventy-plus featured films. A veritable A-list cast of local performers, event planners, chefs, craftspeople, volunteers, media, and more came together to put on events along Harrison Avenue, inside the Panama City Center for the Arts, in nearby private venues, and at McKenzie Park. The weekend kicked off Thursday with a bustling welcome party at The Sapp House, a historic downtown event venue, with the theme “From Bayou to Beyond” celebrating local history. The main events took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with screenings at locations all over town: the Center for the Arts, the Bay County History Museum, Downtown Boxing Club, Gallery of Art 850, Mosey’s Downtown, and House of Henry.
Brittany Tucker, communication director and event organizer for the festival, expresses her profound gratitude and awe for the creative displays, parties, and enthusiasm shown by so many Panama City locals and organizations.
Anima Arts created a speakeasy that stopped people in their tracks. “There was a closet you had to duck to get into,” Tucker shares. “It reminded
me of the one you’d hide in as a child when you were young enough to comfortably adventure into nooks and crannies. There was a veil that, as you crossed, opened the room and led to a writer’s desk with a typewriter. My grandfather, who meant the world to me before he ‘crossed the veil,’ was a writer. It brought me to tears. That’s what worldclass art does; it makes you feel profoundly.”
Public Eye Soar lit up the entire downtown in red, from covering the streetlamps and bringing red spotlights to crafting projection art perfectly curated for the theme of each party. Shadow puppets invited children (and children at heart) to play along with the artists at Friday night’s Storytellers Row craft market and performance. A custom sculpture projected redfish all over McKenzie Park. “I was speaking with a woman from Fort Lauderdale, and she said, ‘I can’t put my finger on it, but it reminds me of Disney,’” Tucker says. “That’s the highest compliment we could receive.”
The Panama City Center for the Arts not only lent its space, gear, and time to Redfish Film Fest, but its team also lent its talent. The upstairs gallery hosted screenings alongside an exhibition of festival posters submitted by local artists. The team also created a red sofa with a ring of red lights surrounding it, which instantly became an iconic Redfish scene for all who visited the space. “It organically became the profile photo of half the town,” Tucker laughs. “They weren’t asked to, they didn’t have to, it’s just what artists do: they ‘art.’”
Missed A Spot Designs created a tri-sided mobile mural that gave three different depictions of Redfish. It included a pool scene with red floats, a redfish bearing the Coca-Cola logo, and an “action figure” package that allowed guests to stand in front to be part of the scene. “Every time I thought I liked one better than the last, I’d turn the corner and fall in love all over again,” Tucker says.
Chef Chris Infinger , a culinary instructor at Gulf Coast State College and chef at St. Andrews Bodega, created an entire menu for the opening night party featuring Coca-Cola products creatively infused into each dish. The menu was playful, nostalgic, and nothing short of culinary art. Masque of the Red Death, the festival’s Saturday night Edgar Allan Poe-inspired signature party, also featured an entire roasted pig and a table full of accouterments by Chef Chris and his team.
The Masque also featured an incredible vignetted, Poe-inspired set design inside a dress by Misty Joy . Guests could walk up to the cage-like skirt of the dress and pluck a glass of champagne from the many affixed to the structure. Tucker says, “Misty’s art breaks the rules, reimagines the familiar, and lets you see something you’ve seen a thousand times before for the very first time.”
The Trash Market took over Gateway Park during Storytellers Row. Vendors with tables drenched in red art, a “trash band,” and one-of-a-kind installations made from found items transformed the space
into something new and unique for one night only. Floriopolis produced a box art installation that Tucker says, “forever changed the way I look at everything from appliance boxes to Kleenex boxes. They have the worldclass ability to look at a seed and see a garden.”
The Gulf Coast Players theater troupe, comprising students from Gulf Coast State College, spent six months rehearsing parts to play during Storytellers Row, which featured an eclectic cast of characters scattered throughout the park, waiting to tell a story to anyone who stopped long enough to chat. From pirates and sirens to fairy-tale favorites, their stories were perfectly melded into the theme of the evening, lending a fully immersive feel for guests of all ages and a unique experience for each one.
In conjunction with the Gulf Coast Players, Aequoreal Spell Productions turned the Gateway Park fountain into a siren’s enclave with actual mermaids lurking in its waters. “It was so enchanting, I was almost lured to crawl into it myself,” Tucker recalls. “I have a newfound empathy for the sailors tempted to their watery graves!”
“My team and I had the most amazing experience in Panama City with the amazing people who run and operate the Redfish Film Festival,” Harlowe expounds. “From the events planned with such meticulous attention to detail to the warmth and genuine care we felt from every person we encountered, Redfish has proved to be a cusper in the film industry, and larger festivals should take note. From the programming to the hospitality, it felt like the real deal, and honestly, it was the most impressive film festival we’ve ever attended.”
This year, Redfish Film Fest also welcomed its first intern, Dani Smith, from Gulf Coast State College. “Dani created an entire mask installation for Masque of the Red Death,” says Tucker. “She designed, crafted, curated, framed, and lit them. Not only was she obviously talented, but she was more professional than I thought a twenty-year-old was capable of being. She’s going to take the art world by storm.”
The filmmakers themselves, whose work was showcased alongside and among all these fascinating art installations and performances, shared a mutual respect and a sense of being blown away by the hospitality, creativity, and uniqueness of Redfish Film Fest.
The fest’s headliners were equally impressed. Social media influencers and history content creators The Hughleys agree Redfish was one of the best experiences they have had. “We are invited to a lot of places, and Panama City is the top of the top,” Jermaine Hughley says. “The organization and professional touches on this fest blew us away. We want to come back every year.”
True-crime podcaster Stephanie Harlowe says Redfish is claiming its place in the larger film festival world.
Josh Forbes, a filmmaker from Los Angeles whose documentary Gallagher was a Redfish feature film this year, was also surprised at how fully formed the festival was, considering its age. “I was shocked to find out this was only the second year,” he says. “Everything was so dialed in and ran so smoothly; it felt like they’ve been doing it for decades. Redfish is unlike any other film festival. Documentaries are usually the ‘redheaded stepchild’ of the film festival world, but at Redfish, it’s nice to see so many special films getting the love they deserve.”
One headliner even decided to purchase a home in Panama City. If that isn’t a sign of a great community and one thriving on sharing world-class art with its locals and visitors, I don’t know what is. There is hope for the future of Panama City and its residents as they rebuild a place their children will be proud to call home.
It’s all about hope. As I write this recap of an unforgettable festival, I hope people will read it and watch the incredible films shown there. When you do, I hope you will be moved to attend Redfish Film Festival in the future.

BRAD DAHLER – AT THE TOP OF HIS GAME
By Lisa Marie Burwell
THE NEW ERA OF 30-A REAL ESTATE: IN JULY 2024, THE SALE OF 181 PARADISE BY THE SEA BOULEVARD IN INLET BEACH, FLORIDA, SET A RECORD FOR THE HIGHEST SINGLE-FAMILY REAL ESTATE TRANSACTION IN THE HISTORY OF THE DESTIN/30-A MARKET, WITH A SALE PRICE OF $28.5 MILLION. BRAD DAHLER IS CURRENTLY THE HOLDER OF THIS RECORD.
Passing through the Churchill Oaks brick-andwrought-iron gate, the car softly vibrated as the tires rolled across the cobblestone pavers. The sun’s rays dappled through the heavy tree canopies of the live oaks that flanked the neighborhood lanes. It was a happy prelude to a spring afternoon photo shoot. Unlike typical photo shoots, the house felt calm. Brad Dahler and his wife, Kristin, had just returned home after picking up their two young daughters, James and Miller, from school. There was no sense of pretense or nervousness, which one might expect with a film crew of three in their home. Despite the disruptions from setting up lights and cameras, the Dahlers maintained their usual family routine, which included their two dogs, Finley and Poppy, and Meatball, their sweet indoor-outdoor cat. Their genuine Southern hospitality shone through as I observed them trading schoolbooks for coloring books.
Brad Dahler is a Global Real Estate Advisor with Scenic Sotheby’s International Realty. As the CEO of Dahler & Co., he has built a dedicated and capable team that shares his vision and ethos: ensuring clients are treated exceptionally well while achieving their goals. A native of Springfield, Missouri, Dahler fell in love with the area while vacationing and eventually made his dream a reality by moving here. “I still remember watching The Truman Show the week before my first visit to Seaside,” he recalls. Around twenty years later, in 2018, he relocated to 30-A. A family man at heart, he is relationshipfocused in all his endeavors. Few individuals operate with the level of intentionality that Dahler does. “At our core, we’re committed to keeping our team intentionally small,” he explains, emphasizing the power of a boutique-style team where everyone is aligned and nothing slips through the cracks. “Our priority is to ensure every client receives A-plus service and top-tier representation—regardless of how busy we are or how competitive the market becomes. That’s non-negotiable for us.”
Blake Morar, founder and broker/co-owner of Scenic Sotheby’s International Realty, has observed Dahler’s remarkable ascent for several years. “Brad’s rise to the top of the market has been incredible to watch,” Morar states. Since joining the brokerage, Dahler’s success has been unmatched in the local market and beyond, setting numerous benchmarks.
In 2023, he was recognized by RealTrends’ The Thousand and America’s Best as the number eight small team in Florida, earning a spot in The Wall Street Journal and ranking among the top one hundred individual agents worldwide within Sotheby’s International Realty.
Dahler and his team did not take a moment off to celebrate their success; instead, they continued to reach unprecedented heights. In July 2024, two agents from Scenic Sotheby’s International Realty, Anna LaNeve and Lisa LaFlure, represented a buyer who made an offer to the then-owner, Andy Florance, to purchase the property at 181 Paradise by the Sea Boulevard. This stunning ten-thousand-square-foot Gulf-front residence, designed by architect Tim McNamara, was built in 2017. Florance, the founder of the real estate data provider CoStar Group, had bought the property only four years earlier for $15.1 million. Although Florance had not officially listed the property, a deal was still brokered, with his chosen broker being none other than Brad Dahler, who successfully facilitated the record sale for his client.
Over the past twelve months, Dahler & Co. has continued to impress the competition with $259 million in real estate sales as of April 30, 2025. The team achieved an average price point exceeding $3.5 million, which is 430 percent higher than the market’s average sales price. They maintain over a 20 percent market share in the WaterColor community, managing twenty-five or more transactions annually and accumulating over $100 million in sales volume—172 percent more than their closest competitor in the community. Morar credits Dahler’s success to his distinctive business approach and is excited to have him on the Scenic Sotheby’s team. “Brad has a gift for connecting with people and guiding them with clarity and purpose,” adds Morar. “Clients trust him because he leads with heart and skill.”
Ryan Templeton, a good friend and client, praised Dahler for his impressive accomplishments in such a short time. “Brad is exceptional with people and genuinely cares about them from start to finish,” says Templeton, a California transplant who has worked with Dahler on Gulf-front properties in The Retreat, Kaiya Beach Resort, WaterColor,
“WHEN DISCUSSING DAHLER’S MANY SUCCESSES AND HOW SUCH A FAVORABLE EXPOSÉ MIGHT BE RECEIVED BY OTHER REALTORS IN THE AREA, MORAR SAYS, ‘HE’S EARNED IT. BRAD IS AN OUTLIER WHO PERFORMS BETTER THAN MOST.’”
Alys Beach, and Paradise by the Sea. “His insight and knowledge of the marketplace have greatly benefited me, and I trust his instincts.” Templeton continues, “Brad strives to be the best for his clients and serves as a one-stop concierge. He follows through on his commitments. He’s just that kind of guy.”
Roy Sembera, developer of Churchill Oaks—a new, amenity-rich singlefamily development along the south shore of Choctawhatchee Bay in Santa Rosa Beach—echoed these sentiments. “When I think of Brad, I think of his wife and kids, and I’m thrilled that they live in Churchill Oaks,” Sembera states. “I’m immensely impressed with Brad and the team he has built. We chose Brad to represent our brokerage efforts here because we believe he is the best choice to lead our community into the future.” A future in which Dahler bought into—literally.
“It’s no secret that I’m all in—not just on Churchill Oaks, but on the entire 30-A corridor,” Dahler says. “This isn’t just where I work; it’s where we’ve chosen to
raise our family, invest in our future, and be part of something that truly matters. My ‘why’ has always been my wife and our daughters. Investing in Churchill Oaks and along Scenic Highway 30-A is one of the ways we’re building a legacy—one rooted in lifestyle, opportunity, and a place unlike anywhere else.”
The saying “a good reputation is better than silver and gold” comes to mind when reflecting on the many positive opinions people share about Brad Dahler and his team. When discussing Dahler’s many successes and how such a favorable exposé might be received by other realtors in the area, Morar says, “He’s earned it. Brad is an outlier who performs better than most.”

To be honest, I didn’t know much about golf until I started dating my husband. He, like a lot of men, is obsessed. But I took an interest in learning more (watching Full Swing on Netflix helped!), and this year, even while my husband was out of town, I found myself watching The Masters alone.
A few years into my newfound interest in golf, I have much more knowledge of the players. I’ve fallen in love with the whole Masters experience and all its traditions. One day, I hope to attend in person! And, like many watching, I was cheering Rory McIlroy on to win his first green jacket and Grand Slam this year.
For those who don’t follow golf, here’s what you need to know: Rory is considered one of the best professional golfers, but had never won at The Masters. He won all three other majors (the four PGA tournaments played each year: The Masters, The PGA Championship, The US Open, and The British Open). If a golfer wins all four, they achieve the “Grand Slam.” Only five others have done it: Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.
The last time Rory won a major was eleven years ago, when he was twenty-four years old. Since then, many newer players have risen to the top of their game. Commentators and sports writers talked nonstop about whether Rory would make a comeback.
So, on Sunday afternoon of Masters weekend, when my husband returned to town, we had an early dinner reservation and kept the feed pulled up on his phone. (In no other context would I actively choose to do this at a restaurant. But how could we turn it off? They were making history!) We felt the weight and anxiety when Rory and Justin Rose went into
the playoff round and all but jumped out of our chairs when Rory’s last putt went in. I started crying.
I can’t help but think about the weight of winning this tournament for Rory. He has spent over a decade working toward this. Several times, he came really close.
Was he wondering if his best days as a golfer were over?
Was he afraid he had missed his chance?
Was he worried about messing it up?
Did he feel like he was behind?
That weekend, the entire world was rooting for him to win. With each round and hole he played, everyone cheered on his good shots and winced at his bad ones. Emotions rose and fell together. Collectively, we all wanted this victory for him.
And I can only imagine the emotions he felt when that last putt dropped in and the weight of those questions fell off his shoulders. He finally did it! Golf fans will forever remember when Rory McIlroy joined the roster of Grand Slam winners as one of the greatest golfers ever.
After rewatching the win on social media the next morning, I posted this:
“I know
we all cried.
But here’s proof that you’re not behind. Your best days aren’t in the past. You didn’t peak at 24. It doesn’t matter if everyone younger than you seems to be crushing it. You’re not too late. You can be hopeful for what’s ahead. And look how much sweeter it is when you finally get your turn.”
I can’t help but wonder: If Rory had won sooner, would it have been this good?
Would everyone have rooted for him?
Would people have watched so closely?
Would it have proved something more to the world because he was younger? Or is the timeline of this all what makes it that much better?
The whole world wanted this for him. We held our breath at each hole and rode the roller coaster of emotions with him. We wanted him to prove to himself—and us—that it’s still possible for our hopes and dreams to come true.
There have been (and still are) things in life I desperately longed and prayed for, and waiting is the hardest part. It’s easy to doubt and distrust that things will ever change. It’s hard to keep hoping when we keep getting disappointed over and over again. But when God finally answers those prayers, it’s always in ways even better than I ever imagined. When a breakthrough happens and dreams come true, all the years of hard work, patience, and waiting are worth it. God’s faithfulness has blown me away every time. Whether it was finally getting married after being the last single friend, getting a huge career opportunity, or getting a clear doctor’s report, it was much sweeter after all the waiting. I don’t think it would have been the same if it had happened how and when I wanted. I would have missed so much—not just me, but the people who love me. Those who prayed and waited with me cheered loudly when it was finally my turn.
The same is true for you, friend. Because if anything, Rory finally winning the Masters reminds us that anything is possible if we have faith. And together, we can celebrate that.

At Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, the food is just as unforgettable as the view. Pimms has been a favorite island dining spot for over thirty years, serving refined Anguillan dishes that celebrate local ingredients and bold Caribbean flavors. For something more casual, Cap Shack brings a relaxed beach vibe to life with its After Dark series, offering live music and cocktails right on the sand. Guests can also enjoy Mediterranean plates at Maundays Club or sample Peruvian-inspired cuisine at Uchu. No matter the setting, each of the resort’s dining experiences is thoughtfully crafted to reflect the island’s natural beauty and rich culinary heritage.
ess than a year after its reopening under Chef Jean Imbert’s leadership, La Palme d’Or at Hôtel Martinez in Cannes has received its first Michelin Star.
Hôtel Martinez has a unique relationship with the Cannes Film Festival, with La Palme d’Or hosting the annual jury dinner every year. Set upon a terrace with panoramic views of the French Riviera, La Palme d’Or’s culinary theme centers on fish and seafood alongside other delicacies from the Mediterranean Sea with locally sourced ingredients. But more than just serving incredible food, a Michelin-starred restaurant is awarded for providing guests with an unparalleled, unique experience they can’t find elsewhere—in this case, one with Hollywood inspiration.
La Palme d’Or reopened in May 2024 with Chef Imbert at the helm. This culinary master, appointed head of the hotel’s kitchens in 2023, brings his inimitable, inventive touch to every dining experience. Designed by Rémi Tessier, the restaurant resembles a vintage boat with cinematic influences woven throughout the dining experience: the menu resembles a film script, dishes are presented like storyboards, coat-check receipts look like old-fashioned movie
tickets, and the dessert menu is designed like a call sheet. The restaurant also features an array of objects to form a cinematic cabinet of curiosities: old movie posters, relics, and scripts with handwritten notes from silver-screen legends.
Event planning is also given top-drawer attention here. Twelve modular meeting rooms spanning a total surface area of 2,500 square meters, including the large “Le Festival” event space, are equipped with immersive 360-degree mapping technology that allows for conventions, conferences, and events to be hosted in any season.
Chef Jean Imbert thanks all the teams at the Hôtel Martinez for their work and their trust, particularly the restaurant teams, including Alexandre Elia (executive chef of the Hôtel Martinez), Matthieu Molero (assistant executive chef), Christophe Nannoni (chef of La Palme d’Or), Loïc Voron (pastry chef), and Mathieu Maisonobe (restaurant manager).
Now more than ever, the renovated Hôtel Martinez stands proudly as a French Riviera icon. Its thrilling history began when it first opened in the Roaring Twenties as a building of breathtaking art deco architecture, an unrivaled location on the celebrated Croisette in Cannes. Looking out onto the beautiful blues of the Mediterranean Sea, guests can enjoy a serene breakfast in one of the spacious suites or rooms renovated by architect Pierre Yves Rochon. Savor a moment of pampered well-being at L’Oasis Spa du Martinez, a tranquil, verdant garden on the establishment’s city side. After a dip in the deep
blue pool and a refreshing fruit juice, relax in the hands of Carita experts as they perform personalized spa treatments. Then, amble over to La Plage du Martinez to watch the Riviera light play over the emblematic pontoon from the comfort of one of the hotel’s legendary director’s chairs—a nod from designer Rémi Tessier to the filmmaking world. In addition to enjoying world-class dining at La Palme d’Or restaurant, guests can share delightful and delicious moments day and night at the new speakeasy-inspired Martinez Bar or Le Sud, the versatile lobby bar and restaurant at the heart of the property.
Hôtel Martinez is a sought-after destination among the luxury hotels of the Côte d’Azur, with 410 rooms and suites, part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. More than a compilation of independent, one-of-a-kind hotels, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt is a thoughtful curation of stories worth collecting. Whether it’s a modern marvel, a historic gem, or a revitalizing retreat, each property provides thought-provoking, inspiring environments and experiences for guests seeking elevated yet unscripted service when they travel.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Milan’s sixteenth-century Chiostri di San Simpliciano during Fuorisalone 2025, the exhibition showcases a series of unique contributions by contemporary designers and artists from around the world who were invited to reimagine bamboo in bold and unexpected ways.
—THE HOUSE
Gucci made waves at Fuorisalone 2025 in April with Bamboo Encounters, an immersive exhibition that reimagined one of the House’s most iconic design elements: bamboo. Set in the breathtaking Chiostri di San Simpliciano in Milan, the exhibit fused Gucci’s storied past with bold contemporary visions. Curated by architect Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli and his studio 2050+, it brought together a global roster of designers and artists who transformed bamboo in surprising and striking ways, from sculptural light installations to hybrid materials that blend tradition with innovation. Introduced in the 1940s as handbag handles, bamboo has become a lasting piece of Gucci’s creative legacy.

long the scenic shores of the Choctawhatchee Bay in South Walton, Florida, The Bay is a place where Southern flavors meet coastal charm, and where your worries are washed away with delicious food, stunning views, great live music, and even better people. At the heart of this local favorite is Chef Terrance Johnson, a man whose passion for food was honed in one of the most disciplined kitchens—the United States Marine Corps—and later refined in the rich culinary scene of New Orleans. Now rooted in Florida’s Gulf Coast sunshine, Chef Terrance brings a bold Cajun flair to every dish, blending his heritage with the fresh, local ingredients South Walton has to offer.
In this exclusive interview with VIE, Chef Terrance opens up about his journey from military service to the heart of South Walton’s food scene. With a deep respect for tradition and a strong drive for creativity, he shares how his upbringing, family values, and love for cooking have shaped his path and the kitchen culture at The Bay, one of eight local establishments owned by Chef Jim Shirley Enterprises. Whether whipping up a seasonal special or putting a coastal spin on a Louisiana classic, Chef Terrance’s dedication to excellence shines through in every bite.
VIE: Tell us a bit about your culinary journey. How did it begin, and what brought you to South Walton?
Chef Terrance: My culinary journey began in the United States Marine Corps, where I served as a cook for eight years. After my service, I continued my path in the kitchens of New Orleans, soaking in the rich culinary traditions of my hometown. Once I felt I had truly experienced all that New Orleans had to offer, my family and I packed up and moved to Florida, chasing new opportunities and sunshine. It wasn’t long before we discovered South Walton, and from the moment I arrived, it felt like home. The community, the energy, and the access to fresh ingredients made it feel like exactly where I was meant to be.
VIE: You are from New Orleans. How has that influenced your cooking style and approach in the kitchen?
CT: Everything I do in the kitchen is in some way, shape, or form, influenced by my hometown, my family, and the culture. My cooking style screams Southern Cajun Creole, a cuisine commonly practiced in New Orleans. Almost every tradition I learned growing up in New Orleans is a part of our kitchen culture at The Bay. From how we prep and pace our service to the unique lingo and team camaraderie, those Creole roots are alive and well here. It is just second nature and creates a rhythm in the kitchen that feels like home.
VIE: What is your process when crafting a new dish or updating the menu? Where do you draw inspiration?
CT: My inspiration comes from all around me and the culture I am immersed in today—the Chef Jim Shirley Enterprises family. We believe in nurturing our team, driving results, and encouraging growth. That mindset pushes me not only to refine my skills but also to explore other culinary traditions and fuse them with my own. When creating a new dish, I dig into both my heritage and the motivations of our team. It becomes a true collaboration of culture, experience, and passion.
VIE: What has been the most rewarding moment in your culinary career so far?
CT: Nothing is more fulfilling than seeing a guest’s face light up after tasting something I prepared. When someone tells me their dinner turned into a memorable night, that’s the magic. That is why I do what I do. Those moments of connection through the food are the most rewarding part of this career.
VIE: How would you describe the culinary identity of The Bay? What makes it stand out in the South Walton/30-A region of Florida?
CT: The Bay is a true gem along 30-A. What sets us apart is our commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients and Southern hospitality. We bring
“THE BAY IS A TRUE GEM ALONG 30-A.”
together farm-to-table freshness with deep culinary passion, which is reflected in every dish. The Bay is a place where you can feel at home, enjoy soulful, satisfying food, and know it was made with care by a team of people who genuinely love what they do. That is the Chef Jim Shirley difference.
VIE: What’s your personal favorite dish on the menu right now, and what drink from the bar would you pair it with?
CT: My current favorite dish is the Drunken Mussels appetizer! It is a dish I introduced in the spring and has been a hit. It is rich, bold, and has that Southern coastal flair. This dish pairs well with our Tropical Lemonade, and I definitely recommend giving it a try.
VIE: What do you hope guests feel or experience when they dine at The Bay?
CT: I want every guest to feel the love and passion we put into each dish. We cook from the heart here. Whether it is someone’s first visit or their fiftieth, we want them to leave feeling like they just had something special—not just a meal, but an experience.
VIE: What advice would you give young chefs or culinary students hoping to follow in your footsteps?
CT: My biggest piece of advice would be to never give up on your love for the craft. This job can be chaotic, stressful, and demanding at times, but if you love it as much as I do, it is worth fighting for and staying resilient through it all.
VIE: What are some of your signature dishes or favorites to cook?
CT: My favorite dishes to cook are the Crawfish Étouffée, Seafood Gumbo, and Jambalaya Pasta. These are dishes that remind me of home. I love to cook anything Cajun-Creole related.
VIE: How do you see The Bay evolving in the next few years?
CT: I see The Bay continuing to grow into a household name, not just in South Walton, but throughout the entire Florida Panhandle. We are constantly evolving, refining, and pushing the boundaries of what we can do. The goal is always to elevate the experience and keep guests coming back for something new, exciting,
and delicious. We truly love what we do. Every plate we send out reflects the pride we take in our work. We are a strong team that shows up with heart every day, and it means the world to us to share that with our guests.
VIE: Thank you, Chef!

Returning to its place of origin, the home of the Renaissance, for its sense of rebirth, Gucci embraced the city of Florence, Italy, to present its Cruise 2026 Collection with a star-studded runway show in May 2025. Founded in Firenze in 1921, the House draws from the city of perpetual spring, whose name derives from the Latin word for “to blossom.” Florence is foundational to the culture of fashion and Italy itself, where a stratification of histories allows the future to be built on the past. Gucci’s style embodies a variety of expressions, adapted and evolved through generational shifts, moving from then to now and to the future. And if anywhere is Gucci’s “time machine,” it is the fifteenth-century Palazzo Settimanni, home of the Gucci Archive and a living, breathing space that informs the past, present, and future of the House.
ike the sea that washes every shore without prejudice, so too a museum is an entirely open space, nourishing those who are drawn to it,” said Sabato De Sarno, former creative director of Gucci, speaking on the iconic Italian fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2025 Men’s collection debut at the Triennale di Milano museum of art and design.
He continued, “This collection speaks of encounters—incontri—between the city and the beach, and among people who love life. Ultimately, it speaks about freedom. I feel free when there is no distance between my words and my thoughts, between my actions and my heart. I hope that people feel free and welcomed in my clothes.”
The collection includes breezy, travel-friendly looks for the spring and summer seasons. Culture and design are at the forefront, reflected in the museum’s venue and sun-soaked terrace. Below, De Sarno’s notes on style and vision give an inside look at the collection’s ethos.
Freedom, energy, community. The incontri of the city and the beach: the open attitude of those who congregate at museums, and the ocean. Encounters between the precision of the cut and the silhouette, and the electricity of color.
Long coats in wool or bonded leather have high vertical pockets and exaggerated openings at the back. Formal wear unfolds in two shapes: one with sharp three-button single-breasted suits that have a high break line and pressed sleeves to keep the exact silhouette; the matching pants have a buttoned tab to
hold the ankle. The other, with straight yet relaxed double-breasted jackets cut from light poplin.
Zip-up jackets are short, and the contrast collar of boxy leather jackets looks like corduroy but is embossed leather.
The shirts are not classic bowling shirts; they borrow the three-pockets from the utility world, some trimmed with beaded fringe, others with applique
embroidered flowers. They all feature infinity prints, with surfers, dolphins, hibiscus flowers, and banana leaves.
Long-sleeved polo shirts are handknitted with an intarsia of paillettes. In sorbet colors like green and yellow, Jackets are adorned with a beaded fringe that moves like waves.
A sculptural pointed toe continues the evolution of the Horsebit, in either boot or loafer. The molded sole of the Gucci cub3d sneaker has interlocking Gs with a 3D effect, also on the molded sole of scuba slip-ons.
Some are inspired by archival Gucci luggage— valigeria—made from brushed leather bonded with the Gucci logo and has detachable pieces. The Gucci B bag comes in regular size and a mini version. Padded leather bags are super soft, like pillows, and have a magnetic closure. Crossbody bags have a flap closure, fastened with the signature Gucci snap hook hardware. A functional bucket bag is cut from gaberdine canvas twill and dipped in pigment for a modern finish.
Belts are held by a double-ended snap hook closure, echoing the shape of the Horsebit. Bracelets and necklaces are segmented like bamboo. Sunglasses, whether worn or carried backwards, have chunky frames, held by a vivid color Gucci strap.
