Welcome! Wisconsin Summer Interns 2023

ASHLEY BOOTH

I am looking forward to working with our largest intern class to date with more than 30 interns! The Wisconsin office is once again leading all of HNTB with more than 20% of our employee count being interns. Our intern/co-op program is a strategic investment to help grow all of our careers at HNTB, and that’s why I am excited for us to teach them all things about #BeingHNTB and cannot wait to see what is in store this summer!

Wisconsin Office Intern Program Coordinator

Welcome to the 2023 HNTB Internship Program. The goal of this program is to promote the technical knowledge needed to thrive in a career at HNTB while also bringing exposure to the innovative culture that HNTB provides. Each week, interns are offered lunch and learns where they are encouraged to ask questions, grow in their knowledge of the engineering consulting industry and become equipped to thrive in the work environment. Interns are encouraged to be open to opportunities offered at HNTB as it will help them flourish in their future careers.

S TRUCTURES

The structural engineering team works to design the form and shape of human-made infrastructures. For more than a century, we have been delivering solutions for some of the largest, most complex infrastructure projects across the country. At HNTB, structural engineers are responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. These engineers perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team.

Andrew Wyckoff

Please welcome Andrew! He sits on the 20th floor of the Milwaukee office next to the 4for4 conference room.

Andrew will be working on the INDOT I-41 twin bridges over the CSX railroad and WisDOT standard drawing conversions.

Fun Facts!

Andrew just received his BS in Civil Engineering at Marquette University and plans to stay for his Master’s degree in structural engineering.

Favorite Hobbies.

Andrew’s hometown is Plainfield, IL.

Andrew chose civil engineering because he used to be a construction worker! Outside of work, Andrew enjoys playing basketball, volleyball and spending time outside.

David Zeller

Please welcome back David! He sits on the north side of the Milwaukee office on the 20th floor just outside of the 4for4 conference room.

David has a twin brother who is majoring in mechanical engineering at Iowa State University!

David is working on multiple projects this summer, including the I-41project in Milwaukee County, I-39/90/94 Retaining Walls, Michigan DOT (MDOT) I-475, WisDOT CAD Standards C3D conversion and various Indy tasks.

David is majoring in civil engineering at Marquette University where he just finished his junior year of a five-year Master’s program.

Favorite Hobbies.

David’s hometown is Warrenville, IL.

Outside of work, David enjoys running, cooking and watching awful movies.

Daniel “DJ” Lenius

Please welcome back DJ! His seat is on the northwest side of the Milwaukee office on the 20th floor next to Pat Cashin’s office.

On DJ’s 18th birthday he went skydiving in Fort Atkinson!

DJ is working on multiple projects this summer, including MDOT I-475 in Flint, the WisDOT Bridge Manual Standard Drawing conversion and Lake Interchange.

DJ just finished his junior year at Marquette University where he is majoring in civil engineering and will graduate in May of 2024.

Logan is working on I-41 Fond Du Lac and 1-41 Appleton.

Logan is currently converting a retired school bus into a sustainable off-grid RV!

Veronica Bevan

T RANSPORTATION

The transportation team uses state-of-the-art technology and scientific principles to provide for the safe movement of goods, people, and necessary public transport. The team performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team to execute and evaluate project designs.

Ben has drummed in both in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade!

Ben will be supporting the I-41 Corridor team.

Ben is working toward his civil engineering degree at Purdue University.

Ben enjoys being the section leader for the Boiler Beats Drumline at Purdue and being co-captain of the Concrete Canoe team.

Brock Jasinski

Please welcome Brock to the Milwaukee office! Brock sits on the north side of the office on the 19th floor.

Brock will be part of the design team for the HNTBled segment of the I-41 project in Outagamie County. He is quickly learning Civil 3D and hopes to mentor others in the future.

Brock just finished his freshman year at the University of Wisconsin (UW)-Milwaukee, working towards his civil engineering degree and anticipates to graduate in the spring of 2026.

Elsa Meyer

Transportation Intern

Please welcome Elsa to the Milwaukee office! Elsa sits on the 19th floor near Jesse Duchow’s office and is working for Jim Robinette.

Elsa is involved in the Delta Phi Epsilon International Sorority, Engineers Without Borders and the Society of Women Engineers!

Elsa will be working on multiple projects this summer, including the WIS 100 project from Burleigh to Silver Spring, the North-South Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project, the Lake Interchange Project and grant writing efforts for the I-41 Project.

Elsa will be a Junior at Michigan Tech University studying civil engineering.

Elsa’s hometown is Glenwood, MD.

Elsa’s hobbies include hiking, camping, jewelry making and playing the guitar and ukulele.

Sean Bruch

Please welcome Sean as a roadway intern in the Milwaukee office! He sits on the north side between 4for4 and the elevators.

Sean is a competitive water-skier!

Sean has already worked on multiple projects this summer including I-41 in Fond du Lac, I-41 in Appleton and Lake Interchange.

Sean will be a junior at Purdue University where he is majoring in civil engineering and will graduate in the spring of 2025.

Outside of work, Sean enjoys running and being part of Purdue’s concrete canoe team.

Javier Retana

Please welcome Javier as a roadway engineering intern in the Milwaukee office! Javier sits on the North side of the 19th floor.

Javier will be supporting the roadway group and starting out on the I-41 project working on both the HNTB design segment as well as assisting the corridor management team on the WisDOT lead segments.

Javier is pursuing his undergraduate degree in civil engineering at UW-Milwaukee with an anticipated graduation in December 2023.

Javier is originally from Kenosha, WI.

Karina will be working on I-64 Added Travel Lane (ATL) in New Albany, IN and other Indiana workshare projects.

Karina is a senior at UW-Madison studying civil engineering.

In her free time, Karina enjoys cycling, hiking and longboarding.

John “JC” Terrain

Please welcome back “JC” to the Milwaukee office! JC sits on the north side of the 20th floor, in the former 4for4 conference room.

JC also plays competitive laser tag in his free time!

JC will be working on the I-41 Milwaukee Resurfacing Project this summer, as well as the WIS 29 Resurfacing Project near Wausau.

JC just completed his junior year at UW-Platteville working towards his civil engineering degree.

JC is a WIAA certified youth and high school basketball official and coach this year.

RANSPOR DRAINAGE T

Transportation drainage involves the collection, conveyance, removal and disposal of surface water runoff from roadways. The transportation drainage team works to eliminate surface water from roadways to protect and promote the movement of people and transportation.

Please welcome back Ben to the Milwaukee office! Ben sits on the east side of the office near the kitchen on the 20th floor.

Ben is looking forward to taking a trip to Guatemala this summer with Engineers Without Borders!

Ben will be working in the Water Resources Department under Andrew Patek and focus on the I-41 Appleton project this summer in addition to the I-375 Corridor in Michigan.

Megan Andrews

Please welcome back Megan to the Madison office! Megan is sitting in the former Ping Pong Room near the break room.

Megan enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, cross stitching, taking her cat on walks and spending time with friends and family.

This summer Megan will be on roadway and drainage projects in Indiana and Wisconsin.

Megan will be a senior at UW-Madison in the fall, studying civil engineering, and will graduate this December.

Some of Megan’s favorite things are the color lime green, PB&J sandwiches and historical fiction.

RANSPORTATION T UTILITIES

The transportation utilities team is responsible for oversight and completion of the utility coordination and permit process of highway infrastructure projects. This group works closely with the project manager, design team and construction team to deliver highway infrastructure projects by mitigating project schedule and financial risks related to utilities and permits.

Please welcome Steve who will be working in the field on WIS 73 construction and in the Milwaukee office with the utilities team.

Steve loves to go hiking at national parks!

Steve will graduate in May 2024 from UW-Platteville with a BS in Civil Engineering with a municipal/ transportation emphasis.

In his free time, he enjoys working out, sports and just being outside.

WATER RESOURCES

The water resources team assists in the preparation or modification of reports, designs, specifications, calculations and plans. The group balances the ability to meet challenges and overcome obstacles in performing tasks and assignments on time and within budget. Field work generally includes site reconnaissance and project inspections.

Camille will be supporting the drainage group on a variety of projects and has already been assisting on I-41 for several weeks.

Julia Going

Water Resources Intern

Please welcome Julia as a water resource engineering intern in the Milwaukee office! Julia sits in the 4for4 conference room.

In addition to her studies at UCF, Julia is on the University’s Division 1 Women’s Crew Team as Coxswain!

This summer, Julia will be supporting the drainage group in the Dallas office on the FM 741 Project just east of Dallas. Julia just completed her sophomore year at the University of Central Florida (UCF). She is expected to graduate in 2025 with a degree in environmental engineering. Julia’s hometown is Cedarburg, WI.

Outside of work, Julie enjoys playing a variety of musical instruments, including guitar, piano, and marimba.

T RAFFIC/MOBILITY

The Traffic/Mobility team takes charge of analyzing both motorized and non-motorized aspects of roadway projects. Our comprehensive services cover everything from project initiation to implementation and every step in between. During the initial stages, our dedicated forecasting department develops, modifies, and updates travel demand models. These models provide valuable insights into travel patterns and volumes for corridor projects, considering various options and travel modes. As the project progresses, our analysis department assesses the operations and safety of both present and future conditions, and initiates the traffic management plan to manage traffic during construction. Our design department creates plans for constructing traffic signals, devises intelligent transportation system infrastructure, and formulates effective lighting strategies to illuminate roadways. Finally, our Traffic Management Plan team ensures the smooth execution of these plans, providing efficient traffic management throughout the project’s construction phase.

Nicole “Nikki” Harris

Please welcome Nikki in the Milwaukee Office! She sits in the 4for4 conference room on the 20th floor.

Nikki will be working on the I-41 Corridor Lighting and I-94 east-west projects doing traffic signal and lighting design. She will also be spending a few days a week in the field with the traffic management plan (TMP) team.

Nikki studied civil engineering at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and is finishing a few classes this summer to officially graduate.

Favorite Hobbies.

Nikki’s hometown is Minocqua, WI.

Nikki loves rowing, especially coxing! Outside of work, Nikki enjoys crocheting, reading and playing with her dog.

Sydney Faerber

Please welcome back Sydney who is returning to the Milwaukee office! Sydney sits next to the coffee machine on the 20th floor.

Sydney will be focusing on the I-894 Operations, RADIUS model development and various Texas interstate projects.

The rail/transit engineering team consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. The team applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for passenger and freight projects ranging in size and complexity.

Emma Elliot

Please welcome Emma as a transit and rail intern in the Madison office! Emma is sitting in the Ping Pong Room.

Emma will be involved in numerous rail projects, including the final design of the Twin CitiesMilwaukee-Chicago (TCMC) project, Canadian Pacific Kansas City passing siding extensions and a few up-and-coming passenger rail programs located across the country.

Emma is attending Michigan Tech for her BS in Civil Engineering and just finished with her second year.

Sophia “Sophie” Hardman

Please welcome Sophie, who is located in the Milwaukee office and sits in the 4for4 conference room.

Sophie will be involved with the North-South BRT, TCMC Passenger Rail and Van Buren Street Transformation.

Sophie is attending the University of Minnesota and just finished her sophomore year majoring in civil engineering with an emphasis in transportation engineering.

PLANNING

The planning team is responsible for the development of the project scope and fee quotation while also assisting in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA). The planning team serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.

Please welcome Eli to the Milwaukee office! Eli sits near Ashley Booth’s office on the north wall.

Eli will be guided by Jenny Rybarczyk and support North-South BRT Mapping, I-794 data collection, Louisiana Rail Planning, while also getting exposure to public engagement and environmental documentation.

Eli will start work on his Master’s of Urban Planning at UW-Milwaukee this fall, where he also earned his undergraduate degree.

Outside of work, Eli enjoys playing volleyball, touring lighthouses and spotting ships on Lake Michigan.

Eli’s hometown is Sheboygan, WI.

Jesse Doiron

Planning Intern

Please welcome Jesse to the Milwaukee office! Jesse sits by the success conference room near Ashley’s office.

Jesse will be guided by Jenna Elswick to support North-South BRT Public Involvement and Planning and I-794 Public Involvement, while also getting exposure to environmental documentation.

Jesse is currently pursuing Master’s of Urban Planning at UW-Milwaukee. He previously attended Merrimack College where he earned a BS in Biology and Master’s in Education.

Outside of work, Jesse enjoys gardening, hiking and reading (or really listening) to mysteries/ thrillers.

Jesse’s hometown is Wallingford, VT.

The geotechnical engineering team is responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. Ivan is an avid kite surfer and traveler!

Ivan will be working on the following projects: I-41 Modernization in Appleton, I-794 Lake Interchange, WI River Bridges and a variety of other projects assisting the Geotech team.

Ivan is a senior at UW-Madison studying civil engineering.

Ivan’s hometown is Dorado, Puerto Rico.

CONSTRUCTION

The construction engineering team is responsible for assisting the engineering teams in various tasks and duties. Some of these tasks include field inspection, measuring work quantities, daily reports, submittal reviews and general construction administration.

Olivia Carroll Construction Intern

Olivia is currently attending MSOE where she is finishing up her junior year. She will be obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in business. She expects to graduate in May of 2024.

Olivia is part of MSOE Women’s Soccer. She also is currently training for a half marathon! has three dogs and loves spending time with them!

Ruben Zavala

Ruben is working on the US 18/151 CEI between Mount Horeb and Fitchburg.

Ruben is studying civil engineering at UWMilwaukee and is expected to graduate in the spring of 2024.

Paul Nikhilesh Chintala

Paul will be working on the Madison East-West BRT construction management project.

Paul can speak six different languages: English, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam.

Paul is currently attending Purdue University seeking a Master’s in Civil Engineering specializing in construction engineering and management.

Paul’s hometown is Avanigadda (a village on the southeast coast of India).

Outside of work Paul enjoys playing south Indian classical musical instruments and doing community service.

GLD MARKETING

The GLD marketing team coordinates and provides writing support for qualification packages, proposals and leave behind material for pursuits, including enhancing/writing content for clarity, compliance and key messages. The team also provides support for strategy sessions, presentations and client service teams. The marketing team assists with public relations (PR) activities as well as other marketing materials.

The Wisconsin office interns attended a special workshop in Madison where they learned about the consulting industry, HNTB and working together to achieve goals. The group visited the Capitol where they explored, had lunch and listened to HNTB leaders discuss their experiences. This unique session gave the interns an opportunity to grow and learn alongside one another and understand what #BeingHNTB really means.
