A MESSAGE FROM THE MD, ANDY KYNOCH
Building for the future, giving our employees the chance to flourish, learning new skills and assisting in their personal development is close to my heart.
As we continue to grow and look to that future it’s heartwarming to see so many training classes and annual manager meetings taking place. We strive to be the best in everything we do, providing a resilient, customer service-driven security operation to our many clients across the aviation and corporate worlds.
Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) for ICTS is my goal, not only achieving it but maintaining that level too. To do that we will continue to develop our workforce in an environment where they feel cared for and respected.
In these pages not only will you read about various training programmes that have taken place in the first quarter, but many celebrations of our employees culminating in the company-wide Employee Appreciation and International Women’s Days.
Congratulations as well must go to our Employee of the Year 2023, Kamal Hashi who went ‘above and beyond’ in June last year in response to a critical police incident. Well done Kamal and thank you for your timely actions. Outstanding.
Finally, with all this talk of the future, it would be remiss of me not to mention an award at the UK OSPAs and congratulate Shani Baldwin for winning Outstanding Young Security Professional of the Year. Well done Shani, well done Kamal. Two ACEs for sure.
As usual, take care, stay safe and let’s continue to flourish.
- Andy.

ENGAGEMENT UPDATE - WELLBEING INITIATIVES
The following is an overview of recent activity around our National Awareness Day campaigns.
Time to Talk Day (1 February 2024) is a crucial reminder of the power of conversation in breaking down barriers around mental health. Whether in the workplace, in personal relationships, or everyday interactions, talking not only enhances communication but also contributes significantly to our overall mental and emotional health. By sharing our stories and listening without judgment, we can create a supportive environment for those struggling.
Please don’t forget that we are fortunate to have an Employee Assistance Programme at our disposal and a team of Mental Health First Aiders who can provide support and guidance.
June Tyson, Health and Safety Business Support Manager, and Olu Olojo-Kosoko, Health & Safety Support Manager, spent the day (Thursday 1 February) spreading the ‘Time to Talk’ message at London Heathrow Airport. They reminded colleagues who their local ICTS Mental Health First Aiders are (Kirsty Virdee and Pratingna Vital) and highlighted the support our ICTS Employee Assistance Programme can offer.
June Tyson, Health and Safety Business Support Manager, said, “Our mental health, just like any other part of our health, needs TLC.
Take time out of your day for a colleague or a friend— have a brew and a natter. Show that you care as this small act of kindness can lift a person’s mood and help them cope with the day ahead.”
This message is true throughout the year. Let's use our

WELCOMING NEW STAFF
David Jackson Head of Corporate Services, ICTS Ireland
Career Overview: A 26Year Journey in Security and Leadership.
Embarking on a remarkable 26-year security career, my journey began in the Army, where I dedicated over two decades of service. Throughout this tenure, I proudly served in challenging environments, including the Middle East and Balkans regions, gaining invaluable experience in diverse and dynamic settings.
In the latter part of my military career, I transitioned to Defence Force Headquarters, where, for eight years, I played a pivotal role as a senior team member overseeing multiple projects. This experience honed my leadership skills and provided a foundation for my subsequent endeavours.
Upon my retirement from military service, I joined G4S as a Training Manager, swiftly becoming an integral part of the core team. In a short period, a shift in senior management propelled me into the role of National Training and Security Risk Manager. Within a year, I achieved another milestone, ascending to the position of Director of Training and Operational Support. In this capacity, I delivered crucial services to both national and international clients, contributing significantly to the success of various contracts.
Throughout my career, I've consistently managed operational security projects, events, and executive protection initiatives. This comprehensive experience spans the entirety of my 26-year tenure in the security sector, reflecting my commitment to excellence and adaptability in diverse roles.
My educational journey complements my professional accomplishments, holding a BA in Leadership and Management and a Higher Diploma at Level 8 in Business Management. These qualifications underscore my commitment to continuous learning and leadership development.
As I reflect on my career, I am proud of the multifaceted experiences that have shaped me into a seasoned professional. Looking forward, I remain dedicated to contributing my skills and expertise to the everevolving landscape of security and leadership.
I am committed to applying my skills and expertise to further enhance the ever-evolving landscape of the security industry and specifically at ICTS Ireland’. I am wholeheartedly delighted to be part of the ICTS family, and already, I feel a strong sense of belonging and comfort.”
Jessica Moss HR Apprentice
“
Hi! My name is Jessica, and I joined the business on 15 January as the new (and the first) HR Apprentice.
Having finished my law and business studies back in July, I always knew I wanted to work with people and the opportunity of conducting some work experience within HR arose. Having done this, I knew this is what I wanted to do!
It can be daunting starting a “big girl job” for the first time, which is what my mum likes to call it! But my team are so amazing and welcoming. I’m so grateful for this fantastic opportunity of being able to conduct my studies while also seeing firsthand what the job faces.
In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my family especially when there is a Sunday roast on the table! I’m very much looking forward to this new chapter in starting my career and seeing where it will take me within ICTS.”

Andrea Etienne - HR Advisor (Corporate Security)
“Hi everyone, my name is Andrea Etienne, I am the newly appointed HR Advisor for Corporate Security.
My employment career began as a Secretary/PA, and I was given the opportunity by my then employer (a national charity) to go and study my CIPd. Once completed, I was appointed to the role of HR Administrator, then HR Advisor. I was employed for 22 years and decided to take some time out in the Caribbean island of St Lucia. That extended break did not last as long as I wanted it to as I was asked by an ex-HR Manager to return as she had a job for me at a hospice in North London. I flew back to the UK and unfortunately stayed in that HR role for about 6 weeks before being offered a role as Project Advisor for the Salvation Army. My next HR Advisor role was for an organisation whose mission was to rehabilitate addicted offenders in prison. After 2 years of visiting prisons, I decided to go on another extended vacation to St Lucia (which was my Mother’s birthplace). Fortunately, or unfortunately for me I was offered a HR Generalist role in St Lucia. I felt like I was dreaming most days, waking up to beautiful weather and surroundings. I came back to the UK after a while and secured a role as People and Culture Advisor for St John Ambulance, where I stayed for nearly 6 years before being offered this role with ICTS. Everyone I have met so far at ICTS has been so supportive and kind and I am lucky to be working with an amazing HR team.
Outside of my usual 9-5, I am what has been described as a Socialite. I attend events at the weekend, assist with organising weekends away and holidays to St Lucia. I have a beautiful family here in the UK, America and the Caribbean.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know the wider staff team in Corporate Security during my journey here at ICTS.”
Operations Manager (ASM)
“Hello! I joined ASM on 13 November 2023 (it’s a good job I’m not superstitious!) following a career in the Security Industry as both customer and supplier.
That said, I haven’t always worked in Security and have had a diverse career history working for both large corporates and ‘one-man-bands’. Like most, I started in the hospitality industry, after college I worked in video production (I’m showing my age now!), I then had a successful career in the legal profession, after which I moved into finance (also looking after H&S, training and environmental matters too). My experience in the latter two aspects (i.e. legal and finance) led me into a long stint as a Fraud Investigator. This role grew to include anti-terrorism and security which is where I have been ever since.
Outside of work I’m a keen reptile hobbyist (though mainly rescuing and rehoming) and I helped to set up and run the North West Reptile Club (est. 2008). I have a basic mechanical engineering qual (before you needed a degree in computer science to work on an engine) and, when I’m not with my animals, I’m at my happiest tinkering with my 1988 CBR400 RRJ Tri-Arm.
I have met only a small number of you lovely people so far but I’m looking forward to meeting many more of you as time progresses. Until then, take care!”

MEET OUR SENIOR DIVISIONAL DIRECTOR—AVIATION SECURITY
Charlie Howden - Handler (FREDDs - Canine Security)
“Hello my name is Charlie Howden and I joined ICTS in July 2023 as a FREDDs handler.
My journey in the Canine industry started back in 2022 when I began volunteering in an animal rescue, working with not only dogs but any animal in need ranging from turkeys to horses. From there I secured a position at a private kennel working with pets, police dogs and working dogs and after a while I began learning the training side of FREDDs before moving over to ICTS as a FREDDs handler.
In my free time l love being outside whether that be shooting clays, horse riding with friends, taking my dogs for long country walks or going to dog trials. I also enjoy expanding my knowledge by reading various books and studies, engaging in discussions or by listening to podcasts when I can.”
MANAGERIAL MOVES
Congratulations to Bruno Freire who has been promoted to Station Manager for London Gatwick Airport.
Congratulations to John Graham, Charlotte Smith and Emma Fincham who have been promoted to Explosives Detection Dogs Manager, Drug Detection Dogs Manager and Free Running Explosives Detection Dog Manager (FREDDs) Manager respectively.
Being able to coach, mentor, support, serve and create an mance Team, so they achieve their personal and professional
What key attributes make someone successful in your role?
I have always been or at least believe that I have been a servant leader, connecting to people on a personal level and being able to work on both their strengths and weaknesses. It’s more to do with the people and about people whom you work with; everyone is different, every challenge is different and needs a tailor-made approach and how well you adapt to situational leadership The support, trust, and belief both ways from peers and all stakeholders is crucial to be successful.
What is your favourite pastime?
I enjoy travelling, cricket and working-out and connecting to friends and family.
What has been your greatest achievement?
Being able to develop myself and colleagues into effective and dynamic leaders. Trying to master the art of parenting (still getting there).
If you were not an Aviation Security specialist, what type of career would you choose?
I always wanted to be in the Aviation Industry. I have been with ICTS for such a long time and could not have thought of anything else as I thoroughly enjoy what I do. If it were not for Aviation, I am sure I would have been a great cricketer.

EMPLOYEE LONG SERVICE AWARDS
Thank you to the following members of staff for their commitment and loyalty to the organization:
25 YEARS’ SERVICE
“I joined ICTS on 15/01/1999 as a fresh-faced(!) young (!) 37-year-old at Manchester Airport. I fancied a change from cleaning aircraft, and the security aspect of the job appealed to me. My starting pay was the massive sum of £3.97 per hour! I started as an airsider on American carriers Delta, Continental, and US Airlines, where I progressed to become a profiler. I have worked on many other different contracts, including Air Canada, Air Transat, Virgin, Aer Lingus, Kuwaiti, Saudia, Virgin, Cathay Pacific, Singapore International Airlines, and Hainan, all of which have their own ways of operating, with differing security requirements. I have worked with some fantastic people, some of whom have become great friends, and all in all I have really enjoyed my 25 years with ICTS. I feel I have made a difference, and still feel real pride when my contribution is acknowledged.
There have been lots of changes with staffing in ICTS, and we managed to come through Covid-19 stronger and wiser. Aviation security has seen massive changes since 1999, from relying on an agent’s experience and knowledge to more on technology, but nothing beats that “gut feeling” that most of us develop through our work.
I hope to spend many more years with ICTS. Here’s to my 30th!”
On Wednesday 31 January 2024, Virinder Singh and Manni Pombo attended the ICTS office at Manchester Airport and presented Karen with her 25 year lapel pin.
At Manchester Airport we feel privileged to have Karen on our team. She is a very hard worker, dependable, and flexible, always willing to assist when the chips are down. She is one of our go-to agents who we can rely on to help out where necessary. She is an asset to ICTS and we look forward to her being with us for a long time to come.
Gary Benwell (Corporate Security—HQ

This scheme goes a small way to say thank you and recognises all those very important customer service interventions by many of our employees.
Employees are asked to email a copy of the feedback to our HR Team—hr@icts.co.uk.

AVIATION SECURITY
EMPLOYEES OF THE 4th QUARTER
FROM OUR AVIATION DIVISION: JOHNATHAN AMEGATCHER
Congratulations to our Employee of the Quarter Johnathan Amegatcher who is based at London Heathrow Airport.
Johnathan has been recognised for the manner in which he dealt with a situation involving a passenger who suffered from schizophrenia. Our airline clients were advised by concerned family members that the passenger wasn’t fit to fly and could become volatile when he was told no or was in a situation he disagreed with. Whilst the client was assisting the passenger and assessing if he was able to fly, instinctively Johnathan positioned himself in a close, non-threatening, safe proximity so he would be on hand to assist should the need arise. He discreetly and efficiently gained additional support from one of our ramp colleagues who happened to be passing by. Johnathan’s unconditional support in what had the potential to be a difficult situation was greatly appreciated by the client.
Winner(s) of the Employee of the Quarter award will receive £/€500 (net) bonus and a lapel pin.
JOHNATHAN -
“This Award has come at the right time, and I am extremely grateful.
I have worked for ICTS for just shy of 18 years. I work hard and multi-task in my day-to-day duties in the operation for the good of ICTS by being customer focused, target driven, proactive, and a great team player. Being recognised for the hard work and dedication I put into the operation means a great deal to me. This clearly is a motivational tool, and I will endeavour to work even harder towards my goals, the aims, vision, and mission of ICTS.
A massive thank you for this incredible honour, which wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering support of the ICTS training team over the years and my Manager, Joe Bernasconi for nominating me, and not forgetting my team. Everyone has been extremely helpful and contributed to this Award. Once again, I say thank you.”
