Dear Student, Welcome to Imperial College School of Medicine, and congratulations on working so hard to get here! My name is Steve Tran and I am very privileged to be taking a year out of my studies to run Imperial College School of Medicine Students’ Union (ICSMSU) this year. ICSMSU is the constituent union dedicated to represent and look after all medical and biomedical students. My role is to ensure that you’re fully supported throughout your first year at Imperial, and that you have the best experience possible! Within this envelope is your COMPLETE Freshers’ pack from ICSMSU, containing your guide to Freshers’ Fortnight 2013, lots of useful information about life at ICSM and some leaflets from a few of our own clubs and societies. You should also receive additional information from Imperial College Union, who you are also a member of and they will provide you with a full list of clubs & societies and other services/resources available to you at Imperial. For most of you, this will be the first time that you’re away from home and family life – but don’t panic as we run a great ‘Mums & Dads’ scheme, matching you up with a student on the same course in the senior years with similar interests, to join a surrogate medical school family. This family will hopefully stay with you for your whole time here, and is a great way of getting revision notes! Just visit www.icsmsu.com, and make sure you fill out the “Mums and Dads” form there. It’s really important everyone signs up as it’s such a big part of your first year. Remember to come and meet your peers and older years at the Freshers’ BBQ on Sunday 29th September at 1pm on the Queen’s Lawn (outside of the Sir Alexander Fleming Building, South Kensington). This is where you will be able to purchase ICSM merchandise as well as pick up your ICSM welcome packs and any pre-ordered items. The shop website will be consistently updated so check it out at shop.icsmsu.com. We’re all very excited about your arrival and have a host of amazing things arranged for your first few weeks here!
