THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT MADE THIS EVENT AND FEATURE IN THE PAGES THAT FOLLOW. Each spring for the past six years, ICN has partnered with the Victorian Government to host the Victorian Manufacturing Showcase, a true celebration of our great state’s manufacturing community. It is with great pride that I can announce that VMS19 has been lauded as the best VMS yet. With 1,100 registrations, 74 exhibitors, 88 trade show stands – all sold out with a waiting list, 12 external vehicle displays, 11 sponsors, 75 STEM student participants and over 800 attendees. This year, the Victorian Government in partnership with Industry Capability Network Victoria and collaborative efforts of the organising committee delivered on a promise to elevate the event for the rich and diverse manufacturing community. It was fantastic to see all of networking and buzz around the exhibitor stands at VMS19. This engagement has helped promote and support local manufacturing and locals jobs, which is something everyone involved with Showcase should be very proud of.

When putting on an event of this size, there are many people to thank. I would like to thank all of our sponsors, speakers and exhibitors, without you it would not have been possible to put on such a successful event. I would also like to thank the staff at the State Basketball Centre for being so helpful and easy to work with throughout this event. Finally, the success of this event is a testament to the collaborative efforts from the organising committee, well done and thank you.

VMS19 Launch Cocktail Party Matthews Steer proudly sponsored the VMS19 Launch Cocktail Party. The event gave senior managers within the manufacturing industry an opportunity to network before VMS19 the following day.

External Vehicle Display PACCAR displayed two of their trucks. The Kenworth truck (pictured left) is designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia.

The DAF truck (pictured right) is fully assembled in Australia.

PACCAR also brought along two companies which form part of their supply chain - AME Systems and Hilton Manufacturing.

External Vehicle Display Volgren displayed a Latrobe Valley Bus Lines Hybrid Bus, built in Dandenong.

External Vehicle Display Crusader Caravans displayed their 2020 Excalibur Serenity model.

External Vehicle Display The external vehicle display at VMS19 showcased a variety of products manufactured & assembled in Victoria.

The products on show included: two cars, a caravan, a motorhome, two trucks, a trailer, a transportable home, a hybrid bus and a mobile solar powered refrigeration unit.

Welcome to VMS19 All attendees received an event bag sponsored by Mondelez International, a program and a lanyard.

MEREDG Friendly staff from the Eastern Councils welcomed all attendees.

Warwick Merry - MC The engaging, charismatic and professional Warwick Merry (pictured below) was the Master of Ceremonies for VMS19. Warwick expertly introduced all of the speakers and facilitated the numerous Q&A sessions.

The State Basketball Centre The State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South hosted VMS19.

A venue that normally hosts hundreds of school children and elite athletes showed its flexibility in accommodating over 800 individuals from the manufacturing sector for VMS19.

The Showcase VMS19 was split into two distinct parts. The first being the speaker presentations and Q&A panels. The second part being the exhibition area. There were 74 individual internal exhibitors at VMS19, taking up a total of 88 stands.

There were also 12 external exhibitors. The sold out exhibition space and top quality line up of speakers ensured that over 1100 people registered to attend VMS19, with all tickets being sold out.

Mornings

with Virginia Trioli

We were delighted to welcome Mornings with Virginia Trioli to VMS19 ABC Radio Melbourne Mornings presenter Virginia Trioli hosted a live broadcast from the Victorian Manufacturing Showcase in Wantirna, to take a look at the current state of the manufacturing industry in Victoria.

Virginia was joined by the innovators and established industry players, who provided real insight into what can be produced in this state. It’s about jobs, the local economy, our community and being a dynamic vibrant place to live.

Opening the show with “this is the place and the time when manufacturers get together to show Victorians and indeed the rest of the country what we make because we still make stuff. The auto industry may have departed the state and country but we still manufacture!” Virginia captured the very essence of the Victorian Manufacturing Showcase and why it has been a fixture on the calendar for six years.

Virginia and her team promised their listeners early in the show that they weren’t going to spend the morning ‘somewhere over the rainbow’ when exploring the Victorian manufacturing industry, and broadcasting in front of an engaged audience just off the exhibition space, Virginia stayed true to her word to the final word! Virginia asked key questions of her guests about the state of manufacturing in Victoria and explored the stories behind “What we make, what we make well and what we’ve lost”.

The Conversation Hour

The Conversation Hour: Live from the Victorian Manufacturing Showcase With its focus on less interview, more chat – this Conversation Hour on ABC Melbourne and across Victoria, continued to put the spotlight on the current state of Victoria’s Manufacturing Industry with some local players.

Joining Virginia Trioli as co-host is Erika Hughes, commercial director at Integra Systems. They are joined by Linda and Neville Kitchen, the owners of Maton Guitars which was founded by Linda’s father Bill May in 1946 and now manufactures in Box Hill.

Fittingly there was live music from singer and songwriter Josh Owen, on the guitar. Final guests were Neil Carmona-Vickery and Orlando Santos. Orlando is business development and strategy manager for furniture business Zenith FG. Neil is Director of Monash Tech School, and one of the organisers of the Monash Mini Maker Faire.

Speaking Sessions The speaking sessions at VMS have always been an integral part of the showcase. With such high calibre speakers it was great to see the presentations so well attended.

Q&A Panels The Q&A panels encouraged engagement between the VMS19 speakers and the VMS19 attendees. It was a great forum for the attendees to interact with the speakers and find out more about the speakers’ stories.

STEM at VMS19 For the first time at VMS, students with an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) subjects attended the showcase and participated in a passport activity organised by Monash Tech School.
