AROUND THE RINK FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS … No matter how you and your family celebrate this very special time of year, we wish you love, peace, and joy now and in the new year to come. Season’s Greetings! Thanks for the picture Liana.

DO YOU REALIZE THAT THERE IS MORE THAT HAPPENS AT THE ICEOPLEX THAN HOCKEY… Broom ball, free skate, birthday parties and group skating events. How many realize that there is a rink curling club? Finally let’s talk about a group of athletes that get little or no recognition around the rink from other than teammates, families, parents, friends and of course the dedicated coaching staff. The Team Iceoplex, (a top notch skating team out of the Iceoplex, Simi Valley) traveled north to San Jose to compete in a skating competition. Team Iceoplex placed second out of 16 clubs in attendance. In hockey we would say we lost to the home team because of the officiating. I am not sure that these families have that same mentality, but possibly so. Hours, days, weeks and months of hard work and practice paid off. A special thanks and recognition should go to the team of talented coaches. Their dedication and work continues to create a talented group of skaters. For those of us that know absolutely nothing about this sport I thought I would share some information available on the skateisi.com website. The Ice Skating Institute is an international industry trade association encompassing all aspects of the ice skating industry. Founded in 1959 as a nonprofit organization for owners, operators and developers of ice skating facilities, ISI also created America’s original learn-toskate program, now known as we SKATE, and has introduced more than 5 million individuals to the wonderful world of ice skating. Whether you're a beginning skater, skate for fun, teach figure skating or hockey, manage a skating school or skating club, or own or operate an ice arena, the Ice Skating Institute is your chief advocate and top source of leadership, education and services. Sharks Ice at San Jose was crowned the Overall Team Champion at the 2016 ISI Holiday Challenge. TEAM ICEOPLEX, SIMI VALLEY finished a strong second. Sixteen teams from four states — California, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Texas — competed in the 5th annual event, held Nov. 18-20 at Sharks Ice at San Jose in San Jose, Calif. Other top teams included: Iceoplex Simi Valley, Vacaville Ice Sports, Nazareth Ice Oasis and Dublin Iceland The youngest skaters to compete were Lexi Ghyczy of Iceoplex Simi Valley, Sofia Grandis-Oliveira of Sharks Ice at San Jose and Da-Ni Lin of Sharks Ice at Fremont, all age 3. Lynne Cameron, 60, of Nazareth Ice Oasis was the oldest competitor. Great job team, you have

made all of us that call the Iceoplex home very proud. Although the entire team performed at very high standards I would like to acknowledge the following participants.
