ICCO Cooperation South East Asia supports the positive trends in the region and challenges the development issues by developing and implementing innovative programs based on its strategy 2016-2020: Responsible and Inclusive Development.

The rights based approach underpins all of ICCO’s thematic programs. Through innovative partnerships, ICCO empowers poor people, indigenous people and other marginalized groups like women and children, to fulfill their social and civil rights.

DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGES IN SOUTH EAST ASIA In recent decades, South East Asia’s economic growth has lifted millions of people out of poverty, malnutrition, and disease at exceptional rates. Yet, the growth model in these countries relies heavily on an unsustainable use of natural resources and has created growing inequalities that undermine the region’s future development. Land tenure, natural resource grabbing and deforestation have led to political, economic and social conflicts in all countries.

Human development indicators show development has been uneven across the region and imbalances within and between the countries continue to widen, excluding vulnerable and marginalized people.

Our vision is a world without poverty, exclusion and injustice. To achieve this goal, our programs connect and strengthen the interface between our two core principles: Securing Sustainable Livelihood and Justice & Dignity for All. Together with our partners, ICCO Cooperation’s key intervention strategies in South East Asia focus on responsible business, inclusive markets and sustainable food production & security, all with the aim to make sure that poor and marginalized men and women lead secure, sustainable, just and dignified lives.

SECURING SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD

ICCO Cooperation South East Asia ICCO Cooperation is a Dutch development organization with 50 years of experience and global presence with 5 regional offices in the world. ICCO Cooperation has been working in South East Asia since the 1970s, with the vision to end poverty, injustice and exclusion.

The regional office in South East Asia works in 5 countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Vietnam.

ICCO’S APPROACH To work towards Responsible & Inclusive Development, ICCO South East Asia makes use of the following interlinked approaches and models: Markets for the Poor (M4P) The M4P approach aims to transform market structures by increasing the participation of the poor, and to make the market more beneficial and sustainable for them.

Value Chain Development (VCD) We focus on empowering small producers and marginalized groups by connecting them to viable and sustainable value chains and its actors, to generate income and improve food security.

ICCO’s Multi-annual strategy

Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) Our emphasis has always been on partnership and cooperation. The PPP-model links the resources and expertise of both the public and private sector in implementing entrepreneurial programs to eradicate poverty.

Business Incubation & Impact Investment Through our investments programs, ICCO contributes to fair economic development in emerging economies. ICCO provides conditional capital (loans, equity, guarantees), by ‘blending’ financial instruments. Our Business Incubator Program (AgriBusiness Booster) for SME’s and farmer cooperatives provides capacity and capital to grow and develop into strong and independent enterprises.

Business & Human Rights (BHR) We work with local communities, private sector actors and governments to achieve a world where the private sector operationalizes its role as an important partner for development.

We see the United Nations Guiding Principles (UNGPs) as an important guideline and framework for private sector sustainability.
