Automobile Noise, Vibration and Harshness Testing

Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) testing is an investigation of the transmission paths, magnitude and sources of various noises, vibrations, squeaks, screeches, buzz, crashes, and rattle sounds in vehicles. It involves testing of full vehicles, their components, sounds of assembled items, vibrations at different frequencies, to determine method shapes by isolating squeaks, rattles and buzzes. These are performed using a shake table. NVH or N&V is the assessment and modification of the characteristics of noise and vibrations of all vehicles, especially trucks and cars.

Automobile industry today looks for options to attract buyers with products generating lower noise, and consuming lesser fuel without affecting the performance of the engine.

It has encouraged the industry leaders to come up with products that are durable, less noisy, powerful, as well as elegant. System noise and vibration are the two most challenging factors because more comfort means less noisy and harshness for vehicle buyers.

What is Automobile NVH? - (noise, vibration and harshness) is a portable testing tool designed for vehicles, automobile components, and engines. The noise and vibration of vehicles are a matter of serious concern for everyone – owners, passengers, neighbours and passers-by. Too much noise or vibration harshness makes the product look poor in quality and performance and can affect their sales. The NVH tools are used to gain an effective evaluation of vibroacoustic occurrences. The objective is to improve the comfort level in cars and vehicles and also their robustness and performance.
