Above All Else In this issue:

Dear Research Family, What a great year and it’s just beginning! The hospital, the psychiatric center and Research Brookside all have been very busy.

We have some big construction projects underway I want to share:

The lobby and hallways of the Medical Office Buildings at Research and at Research Brookside are getting a makeover. This includes new flooring, wall covering and paint, ceiling tile, lighting and signage. It’s going to look great and the new directories will make it easier for patients and families to locate offices.

We now have a new employee gym! It’s open on RMC’s B level near the security office and near the employee hospital B level parking entrance. The equipment is in and it’s ready for you to use!

Construction is also underway in our Emergency Department for a new Fast Track ER area. We are expanding from three to nine treatment bays offering quick, convenient care for patients whose needs aren’t complex or require hospital admission. This will open in late spring of this year.

We will soon move nine inpatient rehabilitation beds from 6th floor to the 7E unit. This will allow more beds for our ortho/neuro patients on 6, alleviating some of our capacity issues; while still allowing our patients to have private rooms on 7E. This will be a full service Inpatient Rehab floor that will include a therapy gym as well. This is expected to be complete this April.

The sterile processing area of our operating rooms is getting reconfigured too. We are adding a new washer and a sterilizer. This will add efficiency giving our staff easier access to surgical equipment.

And you can watch the make-over happen all year on A Level – new flooring, wall covering, brighter lights, and new signage. A new phase of this work just began near the OR on A level. Thank you for helping patients and visitors find their way to the services they need - around the detour!

Hospital Admitting will be moving to A Level on April 4 and will be renamed Hospital Patient Registration. This will get it closer to outpatient and diagnostic services and the Medical Office Buildings. New signage, new maps and a lot of internal and external communication is happening to help patients/families, referring physicians, and all others know about the change.

This year, Research is celebrating 130 years in Kansas City, 53 years at this campus. It’s very exciting to have renovations like this happening. Our patients and families are going to notice the surroundings are fabulous, just like the care we deliver here.

Thank you!
