FEBRUARY 2021
Integrity Compassion Always Respect Excellence
Hello Research Family, We are moving right along into 2021 and with each day that passes, our shimmer of hope for the future shines brighter and brighter. Since our first COVID-19 vaccination clinic in December of 2020, we have vaccinated well over 8,000 individuals and our COVID positive patient population continues to decline. While per CDC guidance, we are prioritizing vaccinating our frontline workers, we are also working with Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas to ensure all community members have equal access to the vaccine. February is also Heart Month! We have so much to share about Research Medical Center’s growing cardiovascular services. In 2021, we plan to: • Open our second electrophysiology (EP) lab in April to help better serve our inpatients and outpatients (construction photos below) • Onboard a second EP physician in August to help meet the high demand for EP services • Continue growing our interventional and cardiothoracic programs. Specifically, through a new valve pathway for critically ill patients with aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation. This helps our structural heart team properly assess candidates for transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacements (TAVR & TMVR) We’re also pleased to announce that Chief of Cardiology Willie Lawrence, MD is overseeing a $32 million federally funded initiative with the America Heart Association to address hypertension among racial and ethnic minority populations. Despite the obstacles we have faced over the past year, I am proud of Team Research's commitment to growing in ways that allow us to serve our patients to the highest capacity. Thank you for all you do.
