One new cardiovascular procedure will help improve the lives of patients who are living with chronic heart conditions. Our chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention (CTO PCI) is a procedure where physicians treat blockages using imaging procedures and tiny coronary equipment to safely open a patient’s arteries. It is an effective alternative for high-risk patients who are not candidates for other cardiovascular procedures - but who have been plagued by symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath and fatigue. Another new cardiac procedure we are offering is Trans Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). TAVR gives our specially trained cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons the option to replace a patient’s aortic valve through an incision in the leg, when in the past these patients would have required open-heart surgery. Frail or elderly patients who are unsafe surgical candidates can now be evaluated for this treatment. In addition, with clinical trials showing the success of TAVR, physicians are beginning to use this method for younger and lower risk patients. Research is proud of our cardiovascular teams who continue to pave the way for more patients to live healthier, happier lives. It is also the month for Valentine’s Day so be sure to share lots of Research love with your patients and co-workers! Sincerely,
