18 | New U.S. Dietary Guidelines Recommend Water Consumption The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans were issued on January 7, 2016, and the new federal dietary recommendations advise people to consume less than 10 percent of their daily calories from sugar. One of the easiest and best ways Americans can reduce sugar intake, as noted in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion’s MyPlate “MyWins” guide, is to “drink water instead of sugary drinks.” By Sabrina E.
