Ouvrir la porte et laisser l’extérieur surgir à l’intérieur. Puisque la nature s’invite là où elle est inattendue, elle peut être là, suspendue, perchée, déposée, au mur, au sol, à table… là, juste à côté de soi. Il a forme animale, il figure le paysage, il réveille nos plus profonds instincts…

L’objet ibride est de nature sauvage. Il se regarde, se guette, attend qu’on s’y reflète et enfin adopté, résonne avec l’espace et ses occupants.

L’objet ibride déroute : il est singulier et duel, curieuse combinaison d’attirance et de trouble, il dénonce l’ordinaire, réveille l’inanimé.

Open the door and let the outside come inside.

Since nature invites itself into places where it is not expected, it can appear anywhere – suspended, perched, deposited on the wall, the floor, the table… there, right next to you. It has animal form, it represents the landscape, it awakens our deepest instincts… The ibride object belongs to wild nature.

It looks at itself, lies in waiting, waits till you are reflected in it and, once finally adopted, echoes within the space and with its occupants. The Ibride object is puzzling

Les origines

the origins

C’est en 1996 à Fontain, en France, qu’ibride est né du trio familial que forme Carine Jannin, Rachel et Benoit Convers. Dès ses débuts, l’auto-édition permet à la maison de créer des objets singuliers et poétiques dont l’essence même réside dans la nature et le monde animal. Rapidement, ibride acquiert de nouveaux savoir-faire en collaborant avec des marques prestigieuses telles que Kenzo et Habitat. En 2008, la maison d’édition opère un virage créatif et met fin aux collaborations pour s’épanouir dans l’indépendance et s’affranchir des codes. Les deux années qui suivent marquent le lancement de trois collections devenues emblématiques. ibride prend alors conscience que l’innovation est un vecteur de liberté et investit dans un outil de production en 2013 pour devenir fabricant. L’entreprise inclut dans cette nouvelle organisation les fournisseurs et sous-traitants locaux avec lesquels elle travaille depuis le début. Ce mode de fonctionnement lui permet aujourd’hui de réaliser des projets sur-mesure dans des lieux d’exception : restaurants, bars, hôtels et sièges sociaux d’entreprises.

In 1996, ibride was born in Fontain, France, from the family trio of Carine Jannin, Rachel and Benoit Convers. From the very beginning, self-edition allowed the design house to create singular and poetic objects inspired by nature and the animal world. Soon, ibride acquired new know-how by collaborating with prestigious brands such as Kenzo and Habitat, for which it designs and supplies tableware, lighting and other accessories. In 2008, the design house made a creative shift and put an end to collaborations in order to flourish in independence and free itself from codes. The two years that followed marked the launch of three collections that had become emblematic. ibride then became aware that innovation was a vector of freedom and invested in a production tool in 2013 to become a manufacturer. The company includes in this new organization the local suppliers and subcontractors with whom it has been working since the beginning. This operating mode now allows it to carry out tailor-made projects in unique places: luxury hotels, gourmet restaurants and head offices.

Tribu sculpturale à l’esthétique troublante, le Mobilier de Compagnie vient domestiquer les formes animales pour leur donner une utilité fonctionnelle toute humaine. Raffinées et robustes, les bibliothèques ours, consoles autruches ou ânes bureaux viennent s’insérer comme autant d’évidences dans les paysages intérieurs ou extérieurs.

A sculptural tribe of troubling beauty, the Mobilier de Compagnie domesticates animal forms to give them a very human functional utility. The bear bookcases, ostrich consoles or donkey desks are both refined and robust and thus blend quite naturally with indoor or outdoor landscapes.

À mi-chemin entre art et design, Collector rassemble les pièces maîtresses de la Maison ibride éditées en séries limitées. Signés par l’auteur et numérotés, les portraits sont accompagnés d’un certificat d’authenticité. Les tirages sont réalisés sur aluminium puis encadrés par nos soins dans une matière extra mate au toucher soyeux.

Halfway between art and design, Collector brings together the masterpieces of the ibride house, edited in limited series. Signed by the author and numbered, the portraits are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminium and then framed by us in an extra matt material with a silky touch.

Alpaga is the opportunity to approach the animal from an angle other than that of form – to remain allusive in the design and to display the coloured fringes in order to give priority to the sense of touch as the first contact with the object. Graphique et aérien, le siège Manta est dessiné comme une envolée de lignes fluides qui évoquent le battement d’aile d’une créature marine, formant un dégradé de courbes qui se dématérialise dans le paysage, apparaissant et disparaissant selon le point de vue.

Conçu et entièrement fabriqué dans nos ateliers en France, Manta est réalisé en stratifié massif, une matière qui se moque des intempéries, permet la forme délicate de sa coque et résiste aux épreuves du temps.

On retrouve la même harmonie poétique avec le trio de tables Medusa, dont le plateau amovible permet de servir et desservir avec une simplicité déconcertante et de changer de graphisme au gré des saisons.

Graphic and weightless, “Manta” is designed like a flight of smooth lines evoking the flapping wings of a marine creature, forming a gradation of curves that blend into the landscape, appearing and disappearing depending on the angle from which you see it.

Conceived and entirely manufactured within the ibride production workshops located in France, “Manta” is made of compact laminate, a weatherproof material, that allows the delicate shape of its outer shell, and that can withstand the test of time.

The same poetic harmony can be seen in the Medusa trio of tables, whose removable service tray makes service and clearing astonishingly simple and to allows change the graphic design according to the seasons.

Aménagement et création sur mesure

L’ancien Institut de Zoologie de Bordeaux est acquis par un couple de passionnés d’architecture, propriétaires de 5 hôtels à Paris et à Sienne, pour en faire un prestigieux hôtel 4 étoiles.

Ce lieu de villégiature inspiré par la géologie, la botanique et la zoologie est investi par des créations ibride sur-mesure qui s’imposent comme autant d’évidence dans ses espaces communs. Une relation privilégiée s’installe rapidement entre ibride et les propriétaires, tous deux animés par des valeurs et inspirations communes. Disposant d’une grande liberté de création, la Maison se réinvente de part l’utilisation de nouvelles matières et contribue ainsi à la personnalité du lieu en usant de multiples évocations animales et végétales.

Benoît Convers travaille chacune des pièces avec des artisans locaux, allant de la création à la conception, il dote ses créations d’une déroutante harmonie empreinte de savoir-faire uniques.

The former Institute of Zoology in Bordeaux is acquired by a couple of passionate architects, owners of 5 hotels in Paris and Sienna, to make it a 4-star hotel. This prestigious place, inspired by geology, botany and zoology is invested by custom-made ibride creations that animate its common areas. A special relationship quickly develops between ibride and the owners, both of whom are driven by common values and inspirations. With great creative freedom, the design house reinvents itself through the use of new materials and thus contributes to the personality of the place by using multiple animal and plant evocations. Benoît Convers designs each piece with local craftsmen, from creation to conception, he endows his creations with a disconcerting harmony imbued with unique knowhow.

Il habille ainsi le perron avec 2 lions en acier Corten et sphères de marbre, la réception avec un meuble en orme massif envisagé comme un cheptel et orné de gravures de textures animales, le bar avec un comptoir en granit facetté qui évoque des strates géologiques, le lobby avec un système d’assises aux gravures uniques et enfin le jardin est éclairé par des pic boeuf aux allures d’oiseaux.

He equips the entrance with two Corten steel lions and marble spheres, the reception area with a solid elm piece of furniture that looks like a herd of cattle and is decorated with engravings of animal textures, the bar with a faceted granite countertop that evokes geological strata, the lobby with a seating system with unique engravings and finally the garden is lit by outdoor lamps in the form of cattle egrets.

Les références historiques et l’état sauvage du patrimoine architectural de cette bâtisse font écho aux valeurs fondatrices d’ibride.

The historical references and the wild state of the architectural heritage of this building echo the founding values of ibride.

Aménagement et création sur mesure

Ancien office de tourisme créé en 1969, ce pavillon dessiné par l’architecte Michel Demange pour la ville de Besançon s’est métamorphosé pour devenir un restaurant gastronomique. L’aménagement de ce lieu d’exception dans un écrin de verdure a été confié à ibride et à Square, partenaire privilégié d’ibride.

Le projet comprend plusieurs espaces aménagés : à l’étage une cuisine ouverte sur la salle de 50 couverts, ainsi qu’un un bar lui-même ouvert sur une terrasse, au bord de l’eau.

Pour protéger l’intimité de la salle et l’exclusivité du restaurant, Benoit Convers a imaginé une paroi de marbre vert de 13 mètres de long côté rue, pour servir d’écran à l’agitation de la place.

Former tourist office created in 1969, this pavilion designed by the architect Michel Demange for the city of Besançon has been transformed into a gastronomic restaurant. The development of this exceptional place in a green setting has been entrusted to ibride and Square, privileged partner of ibride. The project includes several fitted out spaces: on the first floor, a kitchen open onto the dining room for 50 people, as well as a bar itself open onto a terrace on the water’s edge. To protect the intimacy of the room and the exclusivity of the restaurant, Benoit Convers imagined a 13-metre long green marble wall on the street side, to act as a screen for the bustle of the square.

Dans un partenariat avec les Verreries de La Rochère, ibride a réalisé une pièce de parement de verre, spécialement dessinée pour ce projet. Laquée à l’arrière d’un vert profond, elle revêt le long comptoir de la cuisine ouverte. Sa surface ouvragée et la profondeur de la matière génère des éclats lumineux, des risées et vibrations qui évoquent celles de la rivière voisine et la prolonge jusqu’au cœur du restaurant. «In a partnership with the French glass factory Verreries de La Rochère, ibride created a piece of glass panelling specially designed for this project. Lacquered on the back in a deep green, the piece covers the long countertop of the open kitchen. Its elaborate surface and the depth of the material generate luminous glints, ripples and vibrations that evoke those of the nearby river, extending it to the heart of the restaurant.

La cafetterie, dans un effet théâtral, est masquée par la gravure d’un immense plan relief de la ville qui fait référence à la fonction originelle du lieu, ancien office du tourisme.

The cafeteria, with a theatrical effect, is masked by the engraving of a huge relief plan of the town which refers to the original function of the place, former tourist office.

Dans la salle ont été imaginées des alcôves, accueillant une série de portraits en duo. Les couples à composer se cherchent, se séduisent et s’inversent, dans un étonnant jeu de marivaudage signé par Rachel Convers. Chaque personnage s’il le souhaite se conjugue en duo et en symétrie, invitant à la gourmandise et à la séduction.

Alcoves were imagined In the room, hosting a series of portraits facing each other. The couples can be composed and invertes. They are Gazing at each other, seducing each other in an astonishing game of marivaudage signed by Rachel Concers. Each character, if he or she wishes, can be combined in duet and symmetry, and invite greed and seduction.

Création sur-mesure musées

Le musée Thyssen-Bornemisza, installé à Madrid depuis 1992, dispose de la plus grande collection privée d’art d’Europe. Lorsque le musée sollicite ibride, cette rencontre entre artistes et haut lieu culturel est immédiatement motivée par le désir commun d’honorer la peinture classique avec une création particulière. Ainsi, le musée met à disposition son fond d’œuvres exceptionnel en laissant à Rachel Convers la liberté de faire une réinterprétation contemporaine des tableaux de son choix. Le projet suscite une effervescence collective au sein de l’équipe et notamment pour les designers qui éprouvent un attachement particulier pour ce musée. Et pour cause, puisque le musée Thyssen-Bornemisza est le premier musée européen que Rachel et Benoit Convers aient visité, des années auparavant lors d’un voyage d’étude. The Thyssen-Bornemisza museum, situated in Madrid since 1992, owns the largest private art collection in Europe. When the museum requested ibride’s collaboration, the meeting between artists and a prime location of culture was immediately inspired by the common desire to honour classical painting with a particular creative style. Thus, the museum opened up its exceptionally rich collection of works of art, allowing Rachel Convers the freedom to reinterpret, in contemporary fashion, paintings of her own choice. This project has aroused great enthusiasm amongst the whole of our team and, in particular, amongst the designers who are particularly fond of the museum. And this is for a very good reason – the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum is the first museum that Rachel and Benoît Convers visited years ago during a study trip.So, having been, to a certain extent, caught up by destiny, Rachel Convers has re-interpreted the feeling of euphoria she experienced upon her first visit to this museum by creating tiny white butterflies which invite museum visitors to shift their gaze from one work of art to another.

Yuan Eden est le fruit de la première collaboration entre la Maison ibride et le musée Thyssen-Bornemisza. C’est aussi l’occasion d’instaurer un partenariat pour l’emblématique collection des Faux-Semblants, entre peinture classique et création contemporaine.

Yuan Eden is the result of the first encounter between the ibride maison and a museum. It also represents the first opportunity for the emblematic collection of “Faux-semblants” (“Make-believe”) creations to set up a partnership between classical painting and contemporary creation.

Rachel Convers s’est inspirée de nombreux artistes du seizième siècle. À partir d’un éventail d’œuvres aux styles différents, les portraits jusqu’alors figés et individuels se réunissent afin de ne former qu’un seul et même grand tableau qui se dévoile une fois le service de table déployé. Tel un puzzle d’une histoire à reconstituer, Yuan Eden & Ming Muse nous invitent à découvrir les chefs d’œuvres du musée.

Rachel Convers drew her inspiration from a number of sixteenth-century artists. Starting from a variety of works of differing styles, the previously frozen, individual portraits blend together to form a large single image which unfolds once the dinner service is laid out on the table. Just like a jig-saw puzzle, Yuan Eden and Ming Muse invite us to discover and piece together the museum’s masterpieces.

ibride furniture releases an emotional charge that deliberately or unconsciously touches its users. This type of emotion has a decisive and lastingly positive influence on the perception of places. Reception areas, gardens, and terraces, coworkings, hotels, restaurants, lounges and cafes... So many spaces that deserve more than just a layout: an extra soul, filled with unique an d inimitable pieces. Shapes, colours, materials and details are all criteria that can be adapted by designers, graphic designers and ibride developers. They work hand in hand for custom-made creations made in our workshops, to adapt the size of the furniture, transform graphic designs and generate new unique shapes. Personalization is at the heart of our know-how, with an excellent competence in engraving. Initials and motifs, signs and texts, even complete stories are to be inscribed in the material.

2L’intelligence de conception se lit dès ses premières créations de Mobilier de Compagnie qui déclenchent la confusion entre l’objet et l’animal. Au fil des années, chaque nouvelle pièce était l’occasion d’aller plus loin dans l’assemblage technique.

The intelligence of design can be read from his very first creations of the Mobilier de Compagnie which trigger the confusion between the object and the animal. Over the years, each new piece was an opportunity to go further in the technical assembly.

1Le Mobilier de Compagnie, composante essentielle de l’identité d’ibride, naît en 2003 lorsque le designer Benoît Convers conçoit un meuble à la fois porteur de vie et doté d’une personnalité, avec l’envie qu’il suscite l’émotion.

The Mobilier de Compagnie, an essential component of ibride’s identity, was born in 2003 when designer Benoît Convers create a piece of furniture that is both life-giving and endowed with personality, with the desire to stir emotions.

La conception d’Horace est une véritable prouesse technique. Puisant sa source dans la dextérité des chamois à grimper les parois verticales, le designer explique que ce projet était « l’occasion de faire un animal surplombant le reste de la collection. »

Horace’s design is a true technical feat. Drawing its source in the dexterity of the chamois to climb vertical walls, the designer explains that this project was "an opportunity to make an animal that would stand over the rest of the collection."

With more than 20 years of experience, ibride is constantly perfecting its knowhow by offering quality services with meticulously studied details. Every project which is transformed into an object requires a high standard of design, execution, precision, attention and packaging. In order to achieve this goal, manufacturing is carried out thanks to a highly-developed stock of tools and both innovative and exclusive production techniques. Thus, with the desire to reduce its environmental impact, the ibride house favours short circuits and in-house production. As a reflection of the essence of the brand, proximity and human ties are reflected in its choices of partner.
