Foreword

Message from 2023 Co-Executive Directors

Since the launching of IBlieve in July 2020, the team remains dedicated to providing free resources to enable all IB students to succeed IBlieve’s co-founders, Imogen and Katie, did an incredible job at establishing a thriving organisation and continue to help forge new relationships to support this community.

In 2022, Maitha and Wangari became IBlieve’s first generation of executive directors. As May 2021 and November 2020 grads we both experienced the challenges of doing the IB during a pandemic and wanted to be a resource to other IB students. In 2022 the world had begun its transition into post-pandemic life and we had the responsibility of guiding our 100% virtual organisation through this change Students returned to in-person learning and students relied less on the support of online communities. We recognized the importance of focusing on the need that remained – the provision of free resources and advice

Many of the previously existing initiatives were kept, and several new ones were introduced to IBlieve’s structure, all testaments to the dedication of IBlieve’s team The mentoring and tutoring program continued to grow, as did IBlieve’s presence on different platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Spotify, and Substack. Thanks to the team's efforts, IBlieve has now reached 200 countries.

Today, we celebrate the launch of the College Application Mentorship Program from our Outreach Team, the rebranding by our Design Team, and the new forms of content brought by our Podcast and Social Media Teams, and the record statistics on our blog thanks to the Writing Team We celebrate the incredible international team behind all these achievements, and the continuously growing community of IB students and graduates. We are also proud to be an official partner of the IBO’s Festival of Hope, strengthening our connections to the youth and our vision to make meaningful change in the world.

Beyond being a team, IBlieve is a family, and seeing the team step out of the virtual environment and make an effort to meet up in-person, shows the lasting impact that remains after being part of IBlieve Maitha and Wangari both had their first IBlieve meetups in 2022, and shared that their experiences were surreal! They do hope to one day meet each other in-person (funnily enough, two years later, this one is still a work in progress)

Message from 2023 Co-Executive Directors

The contributions of the team and community are always celebrated, and we are excited to see where IBlieve goes next! Thank you for joining us on this journey. We believe in you all!

Executive Team

As Co-Founders, Katie and Imogen liaise with the official IB to represent IB student concerns and improve the program. They advise the Co-Exec Directors on any IBlieve-related management concerns as well as develop long term IBlieve vision and track progress towards goals.

Hello! I’m Katie, an M18 IB graduate from the Philippines. I graduated from Cornell University in 2022 with a degree in Data Science and Creative Writing I co-founded IBlieve in 2020 with Imogen during the pandemic because we wanted to help all the struggling IB students through the already challenging DP program, and give everyone an opportunity to succeed. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life to work with this global team of passionate, genuine, and service-oriented leaders to build up a community we care about together, as we too were once part of it.

My greatest joy though, has been making lifelong friends online through IBlieve –such as my co-founder! – then being able to meet them around the world as real life friends in-person!

Hello! I’m Imogen, an M19 IB graduate from the UK. I graduated from Oxford University in 2022 with a degree in History I’m now studying to become a lawyer IBlieve started during the pandemic, when Katie and I came together to help IB students while they felt isolated and worried at home This helped us build a strong, fully virtual team of volunteers dedicated to providing positive community and supportive resources for IB students.

I’m so proud of how far we have come, and so grateful to everyone who has dedicated their time and energy to helping fellow students.

Executive Team

As Co-Exec Directors, Maitha and Wangari host meetings to discuss the progress of the teams and to complete admin tasks. They host team-wide catch-ups known as Team Leads and specific team one-on-one meetings called Goal Check-ins. They also organise recruitment and act as a sounding board for the team leads to discuss new ideas/projects Overall they’re here to oversee and help IBlieve grow as a unit!

Hi! My name is Wangari and I am a N20 graduate from South Africa. Currently, I am studying Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania Fun fact: I was part of the first cohort to do the IB program at my school. This, in addition to the pandemic, was definitely a challenge so I joined IBlieve because I wanted to share the things that helped me succeed in the program. I joined in 2021 and I began working on tutoring and writing for the blog. I then became an Outreach Lead and now I serve as a Co-Executive Director with Maitha!

Hello! My name is Maitha, an M21 graduate from the United Arab Emirates, currently studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh I joined IBlieve officially as a tutor in July 2021, because the community was so welcoming when I found it earlier in the year, and wanted to have the opportunity to give back, especially after the pandemic had taken a toll on the quality of education for a lot of people worldwide Later, I took on Podcast Lead to encourage new forms of content and reach a wider audience of IB students. Here we are today, Co-Executive Director with Wangari! IBlieve is a community where there is always space to learn from others and grow!

Executive Team Reflections

The most significant milestone for IBlieve as a whole in 2023:

We secured our partnership with the IB Organisations’ Festival of Hope! This meant that we would be bringing the voice of IB students to the table, keeping their progress and development at heart, to changemakers in the IB.

The Outreach team launched the College Application Mentoring Program in summer to support students in approaching the college applications’ season.

Attending and speaking at the IB Global Conference in Dublin, with Imogen selected as the student voice to share about IBlieve, and Maitha helping to organize the first IBlieve x FoH workshop!

The next milestone stone IBlieve would like to reach in 2024:

Solidifying the outreach initiatives e g mentoring/tutoring and CAMP

Consistency of community content on Social Media, Podcast, and Blog.

IBlieve design identity

Securing long-term financial support to sustain IBlieve operations

Grow IBlieve’s reach through direct marketing on IB’s official channels (eg. targeting school networks)

Develop an IBlieve board / advisory system to facilitate leadership continuity when coExec Directors step down and we onboard the next leads!

Expand IBlieve’s resources to country-specific course offerings (eg. Arabic, Catalonian Literature, Tagalog, etc.) so every IB student can succeed.

Any changes to the way IBlieve is managed in 2023:

We changed the format of our meetings from Open Hours every Sunday after Team Leads to more specific team Goal Check-ins. This allowed meetings to be less frequent for the team leads and for us to regularly schedule catch ups with the teams we need to

Most rewarding part of the job:

Seeing the passion that IB students and grads give to IBlieve and the results of their efforts in terms of reaching new people and growing the community we serve. ❤

Interacting with an international team really expands your network. You work with most of the team online, so if you get to meet up in person, it is all the more rewarding to see the friendship grow! It also means that you can take different perspectives into account to produce the best initiatives!

What is the motivation of IBlieve?

Giving back to the community has always been at the heart of every initiative IBlieve has brought to life Believing that every student has the right to achieve their full potential, which is enabled by having the resources to succeed and a community that supports them We believe in everyone’s right to access high quality education regardless of their socioeconomic status, background, etc. and do our best to share all our best resources to those who may not otherwise have them!

Communications

The Communications Team organises communication both within and outside of IBlieve. You may find their work in our weekly newsletter, delivering the most relevant and new information from IBlieve This team also writes summaries for IBlieve’s Instragram posts, offering readers concise posts. Nevertheless, they also maintain IBlieve’s internal organisation, such as organising our team folders and making sure IBlieve members have clear and distinct areas for work.

If you could describe IBlieve in one word what would it be? Meryem, Communications Lead

 S r!

Thank you for your support! Cheers, IBlieve Team

DID YOU KN October had t !

Dear Communications Lead,

We would love to know more about you and your work in the IBlieve Newsletter! We have the following questions:

What is the most challenging part about being the lead of your team? 1. What is your personal favourite aspect of 2023? 2.

What are you aspirations for the newsletter/future vision? 3

4.

How do you pick the things to mention/include in the newsletters. Are there certain things that are always present? What do you look out for during the month to include in the newsletters?

Best regards, IBlieve Followers

Hello IBlieve Followers!

Thank you so much for your email!

I am Meryem and I am the communications lead at IBlieve. My main are to collect sources for the weekly newsletter, write summary pos Instagram page, communication with IBlieve team members (leaders, admin, etc) and organise any internal files and documents.

1.

2

3

The newsletters come out once a month, so the schedule is not too demanding. However, exam seasons and personal timetable shifts are sometimes hard to so IBlieve is hoping for more people to join the team in the coming year!

I would say one of the aspects was the April/ May recruitments cycle, namely making the slide, sending out the relevant newsletter and making sure all the docs/ forms were organised and working.

I try to make the newsletter always relevant to the time of year and to what readers may want to see. I also try to incorporate IBlieve-relevant news, for example our recruitment cycles, these have been both ve past and very fun to make!

All the best, Meryem

Outreach

Tutoring, Mentoring, College Coaching

Outreach

The Outreach team is the branch that handles the tutoring, mentoring, and college counselling programs in IBlieve. These programs’ aim is connecting IB-students and graduates who want to give back, whether through:

Support with the academic aspect of IB subjects Available subjects include all STEM subjects, multiple humanities and language subjects, as well as the Arts!

Support in applying to university as an IB student! Assistance is provided with navigating application portals, checking requirements, brainstorming personal essay ideas, and more!

Most tutored subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Economics

t was the most udent needed ntors!

Support with navigating the IB as well as mastering IB Learner Profile Skills such as time management, organisation, study plans, Core guidance, and more!

Team Members:

We had 14 tutors and 10 mentors who helped 25+ students helped in 2023!

All programs’ sessions occur through online meetings agreed upon between the IBlieve team member and IB student

adhere to all students needs by assigning the best team member whose time availability, skill sets, and teaching style matches the student! Student feedback is always encouraged and taken into account to find the best person and method that works for their needs

Outreach

I’m Angelina! I joined IBlieve because I found them during my first year in IB and wanted to volunteer and get involved in their initiative. Their seminars were really helpful for me especially while trying to navigate syllabus and university applications.

In the past year, what was the most enjoyable aspect of being part of this team?

Well, initially it was just 2 people and it was really hard to work with rolling admissions. But having additions to the team has been the best decision we could've made The meetings are fun because we get see each and talk not just through texts. Making new friends with students, tutors and my teammates has been great

What has the Outreach team overcome in 2023?

When we joined there were a bunch of files and folders that made it really hard to keep track of everything and everyone. I simplified the system as much as I could with my team and organised the folders to make it easier to work with. That was a big relief in my opinion

How has being a part of this team affected you?

It has given me an idea what Human Resources might deal with roughly. Being the point of contact for a lot of reasons we deal with a bunch of emails It taught me organisational and leadership skills for sure. And I love the connections I've made with people from around the world.

In their capacity as writing co-leads for the IBlieve blog, Zeynep and Sophia work with their team of dedicated student and graduate writers in creating meaningful and relevant content for the blog. Their main duties include editing articles, creating monthly themes and generally keeping the blog in good shape!

How does the team pick which topics to write about?

We consult with the local communities of our writers as well as refer to the general IB timeline to see what events are coming up, and what concerns students may have with these

What is the best part of your "day" as an blog/writer/editor lead?

We are both pretty busy people (Sophia is in 2nd year of university, Zeynep is applying to university), so we like seeing our to-do-lists empty, and rewarding our writers for their extraordinary efforts!

What is a highlight from this year from leading this team?

We have definitely gotten good at dealing with crises, problem-solving and being quick on our feet! It's tricky when you have to manage a large team while also communicating with other teams, but it's been a great real-world experience.

Do you have any exciting plans for the upcoming year?

Zeynep: I will be off to college!

Sophia: I'm hoping to continue with the blog team and develop more articles related to the extra-curricular side of being with IB!

What is one piece of advice you would give to current IB students?

Zeynep: As long as you get your diplomas and put your all into it, it does not matter what grade you get.

Sophia: Dream big and learn to love the challenge!

Design

The Design team at IBlieve is responsible for almost every visual aspect of the content you see! The illustrations and visual theme created by the Design team gives IBlieve its signature style Besides that they also receive, from the various other teams at IBlieve, content and text to be transformed into “postable” and viewer-friendly posts so they can be shared on social media or made into promotional posters!

What is a design that you are particularly proud of, Bo

Hmm I think it must be the podcast logo design, we occasionally update it to suit th new seasons and hosts.

Design

I’m Bonnie and I am the IBlieve Design Co-Lead and a M23 graduate. I am from Hong Kong but I completed the IB in Thailand I now study computer animation in the UK! My journey with IBlieve started in October 2020 as an illustrator. The design team was created shortly after that and since then I have been the design team Co-Lead. My role includes guiding illustrators and graphic designers to create fun and educative designs for social media, websites, and events. Being the design Co-Lead also requires me to communicate with other team leads for any specific design request and project collaboration.

How is the Design team organised?

This team is split into two groups - the illustrators and the designers. The designers, as the name suggests, make all the designs your may see on our various platforms; they also put together images to form different desired elements. The illustrators create any icons needed for the website.

What inspires your designs?

We aim to make the designs as happy, joyful and colourful as possible, using a bright and saturated colour palette By doing so, we aim to make our platforms as friendly approachable as possible, as at IBlieve we welcome everyone, however we do understand that “educational” pages may sometimes seems intimidating at first IBlieve, through its designs, wants to create a sense of belonging and allow students to help each other.

What has been a great achievement for the Design team?

The Design team is proud of creating a style that is now closely associated with IBlieve; this style changes with time to fit changes in IBlieve.

Podcast

The Podcast team produces IBlieve Talks, a podcast that provides a holistic view of the IB experience, all while sharing hacks and tips on succeeding in the IB. The podcast is available on Spotify with monthly episodes. The hosts, Prima and Belinda, work tirelessly to create valuable and creative content surrounding a multitude of pertinent topics including but not limited to acing exams, handling stress, perfecting IAs, perfecting EEs and TOK, etc. The Podcast Lead then curates the podcast, and ensures that high-quality episodes are posted timely.

TikTok

The TikTok Team aims to reach out to IB students around the world through engaging content that provides advice and information about the IB Diploma Program. The team also hopes to help students enjoy their two-year journey by sharing relatable content that follows the trends. TikTok is one of the most widely used platforms by the younger generations and that means that many students could be active there. IBlieve therefore expanded to TikTok to reach more of its target audience: IBDP students!

TikTok

My name is Sydney and I am the lead content creator for IBlieve’s TikTok page. My responsibilities include posting 2-3 TikToks weekly, writing up monthly feedpost summaries for the Instagram team, and attending team meetings

What is the most enjoyable aspect of being in this team and working on your respective projects?

I enjoy recording, editing and selecting the music for my TikToks. I’m able to let my creativity shine, which is my most favorite part about my role as the TikTok Lead

Do you have any future exciting plans for your team or platforms?

I’m looking forward to having more members join the TikTok team so that we’re able to push out more content weekly

What is one highlight from the past year that you have had in this team?

I enjoyed having the opportunity to speak with Katie Tracy when I joined the team! I’ve been subscribed to her YouTube channel since the pandemic and it was amazing to meet her after watching her for so long. I also found IBlieve through her channel and was inspired to join because of her.

Is there anything else you would like to add about your experiences in the past year in IBlieve?

I learned a lot about myself and the real world after joining IBlieve. The process exposed me to what it’s like to work with others on a global scale and how I can use my skills to benefit a team In the future, I’m positive that I can draw on my experience at IBlieve and apply it to my own life

Is there something this team overcame in 2023, that now makes the Tiktok page better?

In previous years, I think IBlieve’s TikToks were made with the TikTok app itself When I joined, I started using CapCut to create my TikToks. I found that creating my TikToks on CapCut is much easier than using the TikTok app itself and CapCut also has a wider range of tools to use. This has allowed me to make better quality content at a quicker pace

Instagram

The Instagram team focuses on producing content in the forms of: (1) blog summaries, (2) day-in-a-life reels, (3) sharing tips, and (4) celebrating community milestones. The IBlieve target audience on Instagram is current and upcoming IB students who wish to find accessible resources on a platform that they frequently use. Additionally, this team aims to appeal to students who may be visual learners or want information delivered in a condensed manner It therefore provides a digestible and easy-to-share form of the Blog’s articles as well as creating fun original content!
