HOW TO DEFINE LIGHTWEIGHT?? 2007, the SCOTT ADDICT-frame with it’s “Tube-to-Tube” carbon bonding method being revolutionary at this time set a record at German “Tour”-Magazine with just 819 Gramm of frame-weight. During the years, the Addict became slightly heavier at ever new “Tour”- testing – what underlines, how difficult it turns out to be at such peak performance levels, to keep the quality stable. 2011, Cannondale with their new SuperSix Evo and Cerveleo with their R5CA moved the target significantly upwards: Far below 800 Grams, combined with high stiffness-data and reasonable comfort. But for unreasonable money (Cervelo R5CA: just the frame-set 8,000 EUR retail) and without any design styling. 100% “form follows function”, at below 800 grams, there remains no space for products’s beauty.

Thanks to the package in performances: Great head-tube-stiffness, outstanding BB-stiffness, best records at the comfort testing. How important the last 80 grams of weight are at the end, can everyone judge by himself. The UCI weight-limit for complete road-bikes is still at 6,8 kilograms, the Scultura SL with clincher tires and the new, SRAM RED weighs close to 6 kg…
