The COM3LAB Multimedia software To each electronic, interactive COM3LAB Multimedia learning course belongs an electronic, interactive schoolbook with detailed experimetnt instructions. Specific technical description, pictures, videos and animated graphics illustrate theory and practice.

Measurement instruments of the COM3LAB Multimedia are included according to each treated item.

Oscilloscope and multimeter, for example, are included in the « AC technology » and the step response plotter is included in the « Control Technology ».

The virtual measuring instruments display the measured values from the hardware. They include a copy function in the clipboard, so that the measuring results can be processed with programs like Word or Excel.

Complete lab for all experiment boards (DIN A4) The Master Unit is a complete lab and pursues all A4 experimental cards (according to German Institute for Standardization). With her masses of 380 mms x 282 mms x 65 mms fits the master Unit on every table. The Master Unit can be assemble and disassemble fast and stowed away with the handy lid in the cabinet. Modulation Data transmission via telephone networks make use of shift keyed signals as modulation techniques. Our new COM3LAB based training system deals with all classic variants of shift keying including the QPSK and those types used in mobile communications like MSK and GMSK. Of special interest are the new experiments comparing the different types of modulated signals with respect to their noise sensitivity. To run this experiment a build in noise generator deliberately disturbs the data (text) signals on the transmission channel. The integrated Bit Error Rate Counter measures the resultant errors with reference to noise power and type of shift keying.

Telecommunication technology Microwave radio This is an extensive and extremely realistic system. Again, this project also focuses on the transfer of data between 2 communicating data terminals (PCs). The following equipment is use for the data transfer: • modem (see the COM3LAB Modem Technology course) • PCM system • In this setup, the communication channel comprises a microwave radio link, which students must arrange and line up. This transmission link works as simplex operation. Additional teaching systems, such as the “Radio transmission” project or fibre-optic technology can be used to create the backward channel required for duplex operation.
