When Was IntroducedPlasticInIndia?

India started producing phenolics in 1947, but it took a decade to make the first thermoplastics. And plastic production in India reached 170 lack tons in 2018-19. According to India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the country had around 4000 converting units in 2018-19, and the industry size was pegged at Rs. 5.1 lack crore. Over the years, the production of plastic has substantially increased.

A plastic production plant uses crude oil, natural gas, coal, cellulose, and salt to make plastic. Earlier, the raw material was extracted from the earth, but most rawmaterialsweresourcedfromthirdcountries.

According to plastic exporters, the demand for country-made products is growing overseas. The compounded growth rate of the industry during 2010-19 was 3.5% and is expected to reach a CAGR of3.4%by2028.

But thermoplastics are used for commodity andengineeringproducts.  Thermoset plastics aren’t used for everydayproducts  Commodity plastic is used in everyday products  In 2018, the per capita consumption of plasticinthecountrywas13.6kg
