Unexpected delays

As we progress towards the end of 2020, the novelty of our ‘new normal’has worn thin.
The COVID-19 health pandemic has affected arts practitioners, professionals, organisations, communities, governments and individuals across the globe.
Sadly, inAugust we announced that our third round of funding for 2020 was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic's extenuating impacts on international travel. With a ban on overseas travel in place and the continuing escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic internationally, we have found that nearly all applicants are unable to plan or confirm their overseas development projects.
We hope to begin funding emerging artists to travel again so they can develop their practice and realise their potential as soon as international travel restrictions ease. The CulturalTrust team will be monitoring smartraveller.gov.au and when the situation improves, we will announce new funding round dates via our website and social media.
On a positive note, applications for the final biennial Ian Potter Moving Image Commission (IPMIC) opened as planned. The successful artist will receive $100,000 from The Ian Potter CulturalTrust to create a new work, with hands-on exhibition and curatorial support fromACMI curator Serena Bentley throughout development. Please see below for further information, including the fast-approaching closing date for IPMIC 2022.
Lastly, congratulations to the 14 emerging artists awarded Cultural Trust grants in the second funding round for 2020. Our latest grantees will be working with the Cultural Trust team to reshape or reschedule their professional development projects when possible.
As a Melbournian who has been locked down for nearly twelve weeks, I am yearning for the simple pleasures of life that I no longer take for granted. To those of you reading this edition of The Coronet, and to your families and loved ones, I hope that you all stay safe and healthy during these strange times.

With the early optimism that international travel would resume in 2020, the Trustees made the decision to continue accepting applications that resulted in the grants announced this month. With the persistent uncertainty and manyAustralians unable to travel home, a decision has been made to close funding round 3, 2020.
We will also delay the opening of future funding rounds until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic's extenuating impacts on international travel. The Ian Potter Cultural Trust team will be monitoring smartraveller.gov.au and when the situation improves we will announce new funding round dates via our website and social media.
