Welcome to the new generation, old-timer!

Before we start our journey to the depths of the teenage world, you should get to know each other first.

What is Gen Z? It sounds futuristic-ish doesn't it? Technically, that's kind of one if its definition. After all, we are all dubbed as the future of humanity, sadly. Yep. Oh god.

The Generation Z, also called zoomers (anyone born from 1997 onwards), is the demographic cohort succeeding millenials (anyone born between 1981-1996). Fun fact, both of them are being considered as one of the most hated generation, according to the "internet", but we will elaborate on that later.

This is just the introduction, you know!

Anyways, are you ready to go explore the chaotic and cruel world of the most trendy, quirky, weird, diverse, and amusing generation? There's no backing up now, let's into zooming!

UNCERTAIN ABOUT THE FUTURE

Zoomers are not so sure about the future anymore. The world that they are currently living in is seen as a one-way road to doom. They are experiencing insecurity and unsettled feelings as most of them thinks that nothing they do will change what's about to happen.

Is that true? Yes, but they're not the only one. According to an online poll conducted by CivicScience, Millenials have the worst outlook on the economy. 39% of Millenials believe that the economy will worsen in the future, zoomers follows behind them with 37%. Every generation is unsure of their own future, it is not only the Gen Z who does. We should all help each other to save what we still have.

Generation Z'ers are too addicted to technology to the point that they can't handle and initiate face-to-face interactions with people.

They are considered "digital natives" who spend 60% of their time online. According to an article from Business Insider, most pasttime of Zoomers are somehow connected with technology. Who would have thought?

Generation Z is born in a world that is already full of digital technology, of course we would make use of them to accomplish our daily activities. While the statement above is true in a way, that doesn't mean most of us are incapable of initiating conversation with people, especially those who we love. End this pandemic already!

ARE WE LAZY?

According to the older generation, Zoomers are the laziest in today's society.

Always doing the things they want to do and not what they are being told do by their elders. They only care about their own happiness and not the other's.

Is that true? Definitely not! While the statement above could be true for some people, it is certainly not the case for most. Zoomers can be seen as lazy or sluggish due to the adults who are being too strict to them. The older generation is expecting too much from us, giving us pressure each time they talk. That is why the Generation Z has the tendency to not talk about what makes them happy and what doesn't to their elders because they are always being shutdown.

In today's society, you can hardly know someone who has a lot of dreams and ambitions, things that they want to accomplish in the future.

"The Zoomers", especially. When you ask a random highschooler about what their "dreams" are, you are mostly likely to receive an "I'm not sure yet" answer. Which is sad, according to the older generation.

To be completely honest, Generation Z is the most amibitious generation there is. It is not true that they are amibitionless, they are just currently looking for the right dream to have. It is fine if you currently don't have one right now because one will definitely come in the given time. Life is a journey, it is not a straight-road to success. There are ups and downs and there are also benches to rest at. Be proud of what you have right now because you are important and loved. Don't let others dictate what you should be! We are all proud of you no matter what.

GENERATION Z'S MENTAL HEALTH This is a very sensitive topic that we must not joke about, at all. The mental health of adolescents who are a part of generation Z is consistently declining, even the age doesn't matter anymore. The victims get younger and younger. According to Western Governors University, only 45% of Gen Zs say their mental health is good or excellent. Which really says a lot about the society that we are currently living in.

Depression and anxiety is the leading problem to the mental health of a zoomer. There are a lot of factors that contribute to them, so many that we can't fit all it in this page. We will list the the 2 leading ones, to let everyone know that this generation is not doing so good in terms of mental health. If you are a parent or someone who's taking care of a zoomer, read this.

Social Media is one of the leading factors that affects the mental health of Generation Z. As their generation is living in a world where everything is already digitalized, every one is prone to the damage that the internet can give. Cyberbullying, online blackmailing, and a lot more goes under social media influence. Even seeing people who are "perfect" could give a lot of people insecurities, which can damage their self-esteem.

Family can also be a factor that contributes with the declining mental health of Generation Z. If one is brought into a world where family was merely blood, it could make a teenager feel like they are not a loved, neglected, unimportant, and not special. A family is a group people that love and treat each other like treasure, something that they cannot damage nor abuse. Always tell your children that you love them, even if it's cringy. Make them feel like they are valuable and valid.

You should try out the trends you feel comfortable in that flatter your body, whether they reflect the '70s, '90s, or Y2K, or if they offer a fresh, new take on a look that's evolved through the years. But after the great debate about millennial skinny jeans vs. Gen-Z mom jeans surfaced, we looked beyond denim.

How Gen Z changed social media?

Social media's high penetration rate among Gen Z reflects the fact that the group grew up when social networking was already entrenched. Younger age demographics are also responsible for the shift away from Facebook and the growth in Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. A broader array of social networks that cultivate specific audiences will lead to more fragmented social network usage in the years ahead.

According to their own selfestimates, the younger generation is spending almost 4.5 hours a day on social media, while Millennials estimate they spend an average of around 3.8 hours. We also see that Gen Z is more likely to be following a variety of account types on social— with a few notable exceptions.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE ZOOMERS Zoomers have a short attention span.

Gen Z is growing up in a time where there is an overload of information coming from a variety of different avenues, so they’ve gotten pretty good at tuning out the noise.

And to add an extra layer, Gen Z is growing up in a social media landscape that is defined by character limits. The shorter, the better. Due to the popularity of platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, that popularized one-line captions, it’s easy to assume that it might be challenging to keep a Gen Zer’s attention.

Zoomers are multi-taskers.

At any given moment, Zoomers can listen to a new album, scroll through their social feed, and maintain multiple conversations – all at the same time. According to a Sparks & Honey report, members of Gen Z multitask across five different screens daily on their smart devices. Although having a split focus can have consequences such as burnout or increased stress levels, it can comes with positive – one being that Zoomers can thrive in a “chaotic” environment. This skill allows members of the generation to function at a high level when multiple tasks are at hand. Other positives that come along with multitasking include that it can increase productivity, save money, and time.

Gen Z is infamous for being the first generation that can’t clearly recall a time before the Internet. These digital natives are defined by their persistent use of smart devices, love of social media, and all things digital – more than 60% of their time is spent online. In fact, a Business Insider article revealed that members of Gen Z’s favorite pastime involved something that makes use of technology. This may be one of the reasons why many people believe the generation struggles with face-to-face interactions.

Zoomers are justice- minded Zoomers have a heart for a mission, and get out there to make it happen. They volunteer, they invest their time, and they sign up! Maybe they will vote? Time will tell. Gen Zs are independent and they like their own space. They enjoy working alone on a project, and they do not appear to be as collaborative as the Millennials. And here’s some good or, maybe, bad news for parents. While Millennials could be comfortable in their parents’ house, Gen Z strives for financial independence. They want to have a place of their own to call home.
