REINTRODUCING THE PETRO STAR EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTER

Petro Star Celebrates

From refining to retail, Petro Star’s operations span the farthest reaches of Alaska. While we are one company, with employees located everywhere from Fairbanks to Dutch Harbor, it can be hard to keep in touch. The anniversary of our 30th year in operation presented the perfect opportunity to revive our Petro Star company newsletter.

of Fueling Alaska

The 2015 Summer edition will feature stories from all of our operations: From news about new customers and construction projects, to helpful tips from our Travel Administrator, to updates on our Paannaq and safety programs, the bi-annual newsletter will connect Petro Star employees across the state. Petro Star continues to undertake significant projects in 2015, making communication amongst divisions vital to our success. Whether it’s a new construction project, a community service mission or store remodel, the newsletter is where Petro Star employees can share the good things they’re doing. The next Petro Star News is scheduled for Winter 2015. Please email Nicole Stewart at nmstewart@petrostar.com if you have a story idea or photo to share. PETRO STAR GLOSSARY NOW AVAILABLE Each Petro Star division seems to speak its own “language” and the Business Development Group has produced a glossary of refining and accounting terms specifically for employees. So if you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between jet fuel and av gas or how a cash conversion cycle works, email Nicole Stewart at nmstewart@petrostar.com for your copy.

FUEL T O U R

30 Years 2014 was an exciting year for Petro Star. After the Flint Hills Refinery shut down in North Pole, Petro Star stepped up to the plate with a number of large projects. These included one to provide fuel for Golden Valley Electric Association’s power generation, and another to build a new asphalt plant at the North Pole Refinery. Both are described later in this newsletter. 2014 was also Petro Star’s 30th anniversary. The company was founded in 1984 by Steve Lewis and Kent Herman, industry veterans who worked at the MAPCO (now Flint Hills) refinery. Petro Star’s founders recognized the need for a small refinery that would process middle distillates to make heating oil, diesel, and aviation fuels for Alaska’s markets. (Continued on Page 2)
