Hebron Middle School Rule

The existing rule from the Hebron Middle School Handbook page 18 states "Shoulders must be covered at all times during the school day as well as indoor extra–curricular activities." The first problem with the rule is that some sports get hot and students do not want to wear a sleeved shirt when they are all sweaty. Thedress code is an inconvenience to coaches because not only do they have to train us and prepare us but the also have to check what we are allowed to wear all the time during practices and meets. The second problem with the rule is that the rule for no shoulders at school is targeting girls in schools. This is a sexist rule that tries to make us be covered up to not distract boys. I will develop the rules, consequences and rewards for the class prior to the start of the school year, they will be as follows: Rules: * NO TARDINESS: Be in your seat and ready for class when the bell rings. Standing outside the door rushing in after the bell has begun to ring constitutes a tardy. You must be INSIDE the door. Before arriving to class, make sure all personal needs have been attended to, since no hall passes will be issued. Rewards * ASSIGNMENTS OPT OUT: Student's that obey rules and do not receive any disciplinary actions for 4 consecutive weeks will receive an opportunity to opt out of one homework assignment. * FIELD TRIP: Student's that obey rules and do not receive any disciplinary actions for the entire semester will be allowed to participate in a semester ending field trip or activity chosen by the class as it relates to the coursework. Record Keeping * LOG: Within the daily attendance log a space will be provided for any disciplinary events that took place during that particular day. All disciplinary actions will be recorded and taken note of. Importance Of Rules In School

According to Chapalin he stated that, In schools there are two types of rules, there are whole school rules created to encourage a safe and pleasant environment around the school grounds. There are also classroom rules, which are used to maintain an effective learning environment within the classroom. 'Effective rules provide pupils with a physically and psychologically safe predictable environment' (Chapalin 2003 quoted by James Arthur et al, page 107)

As adults were all have to obey society's rules and routines, eg pay our bills, wait in queues and not steal others things. As adults, we know these as laws, customs and good manners and learn the consequences of breaking them. Students need to learn how to behave and teachers can use rules and routines to help them do this and consequently create an appropriate learning environment.

A simple positive behaviour strategy used in all schools is the use of rules. A rule in the classroom is principle that generally governs thepupil's behaviour.

It is vital that a rule is effective in order to create the correct setting. 'Whatever the rule, it should be established quickly, with firmness and consistency.' (Yeomans and Arnold 2006).

I will develop classroom rules within the first week or two of the school year, 'this helps build a natural readiness and expectation of pupils' (Classroom Behaviour, by Bill Rogers, page 27). Pupils must be aware and agree with the rule in order for them to respect it. I will achieve this by

School rules and regulations are made not to be broken. Rules are made for the safety and better welfare of the students in school. Another is to promote good behavior among students and to maintain the good image of the school. Parents send their children to school in order for them to learn not only academic values, but also moral values. Implementing school rules will help the students mold their character and values expected from them by other people.

Since he/she came from a broken family, he/she cannot get support from his/her family and in that way, to get the attention of his/her parents, he /she tend to do what is wrong just to be noticed by his/her love ones. Students coming from broken families often times become selfish in a way that he/she is just thinking of his/her own happiness and satisfaction.

The family is the very source of love, support and guidance for each individual. It is where the good character of a person is uprooted. Without the support and love coming from every member of the family, the person, particularly the students becomes delinquent or simply lost in their moral values. A student without moral values knows no straight path. He always go on the wrong side of the track just to be noticed.

Media also plays an important role in growing individuals. Most of the students nowadays are exposed to so much in media particularly on local television. Because at a very young age, they are easily being influenced by what they see and what they hear, especially from those whom they idolize and frequently see on screen. Sometimes, through media, they witness negative things that they initiate because it was presented or shown beautifully regardless of being right, or against the rules.

We cannot deny the fact that even though the parents raised their children in ways which they consider as "right," there are still some who lose their direction. It is true that nobody is perfect. So who
