Founded on the Bowery in New York City by Hilly Kristal in 1973 CBGB was originally intended to feature its namesake musical styles but became a forum for American punk and new wave bands like the Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Misfits, Television, Patti Smith Group, The Dead Boys, The Dictators, The Cramps, and Joan Jett
In the design of my garment, I took inspiration from the culture and fashion spread by CBGB. CBGB is known as the birthplace of punk and rock, where famous punk rock bands were born. I want my garment to capture the punkiness and rock style of CBGB, appearing unconventional and rebellious. I aim to incorporate iconic materials and images into the clothing. I intend to reinterpret those iconic images in a unique way to make them my own.
The concept of my photos is to capture the funkiness in locations within Freeman Alley that are rich with graffiti. I will be the model in the photos, and my garments will convey a punk and rebellious vibe. I have chosen to shoot in these graffiti-filled spots to enhance the overall edgy atmosphere.
The design of my ad was inpired by Balenciaga Eyewear ad for their spring 2014 collection, which was photographed by Steven Klein. The iron texture stands out In Balenciaga ad so, I also added a metal texture and made the color cold to give such an effect.
My childhood was a series of nightmarish experiences, but this story is about finding hope. My paintings mirror the four seasons: from the harsh cold of winter to the hopeful bloom of spring, culminating in the passionate heat of summer. Growing up in Korean culture, I shared the common experience of sacrificing individuality for academic success, caught in a cycle of competition and repetitive, unyielding routines. Despite my efforts, I failed to enter college, leading to daily stress and tension. However, just as winter’s silence and cold lay the groundwork for summer’s vitality, my creative summer arrived when I pursued the work I truly loved.
I use watercolors and colored pencils to create delicate, precise artworks. Through my art, I aim to reflect the complexities of human life and offer positive messages, even in somber and dark pieces. This process allows me to embrace my past and inspire others to find hope and resilience in their own lives.
