In this project I will capture how Romans experience the city on their electrical scooters. Presumably the reluctance to use public transport during the pandemic triggered a boom of e-scooters throughout the city and riding on e-scooters has become an integral part of Roman’s daily lives since the summer of 2020.
Motorcycling has always been the primary way of meandering around the narrow streets around the city, but e-scooters are offering a different pace to experience Rome.
I would like to juxtapose the modern temporal intervention and the historical city. Through the technique of panning photography, I will be capturing how the city is being experienced by passengers of e-scooter with motion blurring, and distilling their interaction with each other and their surroundings during different times of the day. Technology constantly evolves and I want to capture this momentary period when scootering is prominent in Rome.
