Music, Dance, and Theater Presented by Our Local Arts Organizations Each year, these local arts organizations present a vibrant program of performing arts on the stages of the Hylton Center. Officially known as our Resident Arts Partners, these outstanding organizations are based here in Prince William County and the City of Manassas, and are evidence of the extraordinary talents and resources that exist in our area.

July 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23 at 8 p.m.; July 10, 17, 24 at 2 p.m.

The Manassas Symphony, winner of the 2015 American Prize for Orchestral Performance, opens its 24th Season celebrating virtuoso performers and composers —Liszt, Paganini, and Tchaikovsky. Works include Liszt’s Les Préludes, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, and Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in b minor (“La campanella”) featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Emil Chudnovsky.

Cabaret is a fierce musical that holds the mirror up to life as experienced in Berlin from 1929 to 1930. Following a naive writer, a dazzling singer, and a mesmerizing master of ceremonies, Cabaret takes place in a time of transition for Germany after WWI, revealing the avant guard underground of Berlin and the rise of the Nazis. This musical explores not just the turmoil of Berlin, but the mayhem that can arise in the lives of people who love one another.

FAMILY CONCERT: WINTER CARNIVAL December 10 at 3:30 p.m. This annual family concert features violinist Thomas Kim, a Reagan Middle School seventh grader, and the debut of a playful new work about winter fun by one of the orchestra’s favorite composers, J. Scott McKenzie. The concert closes with its exclusive indoor holiday synchronized music and light show!

MUSICAL MORSELS March 4 at 7:30 p.m. MSO horn player Avery Pettigrew performs a smorgasbord of small works to delight your musical palate including James Beckel’s concerto for horn and orchestra titled The Glass Bead Game. The concert includes additional delights from Edvard Grieg, Jacques Offenbach, Carl Nielsen, and others!

SYMPHONIC EXUBERANCE May 13 at 7:30 p.m. The MSO is joined by a combined chorus of students from multiple Prince William County high schools, under the direction of Dominick Izzo, for Dan Forrest’s joyful masterpiece, “Requiem for the Living.”

BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL October 21, 22, 28, 29 at 8 p.m. October 23, 30 at 2 p.m. A half-boy half-bat creature is found in a cave and brought to the home of a local veterinarian. Under the guidance of the vet’s wife and daughter, Bat Boy “Edgar” begins to speak and learn, but struggles with the realization that the people of Hope Falls will never accept him. This darkly comic musical deals with themes of hypocrisy, acceptance, forgiveness, and revenge while revealing how the Bat-Boy came to be and what his future holds.

VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE March 17, 18, 24, 25 at 8 p.m.; March 19, 26 at 2 p.m. Written by award-winning playwright Christopher Durang, and winner of six 2013 Tony Awards including Best Play, this delightful comedy explores the relationships between three middle-aged siblings as they grapple with life now that their parents are gone. Throw in a colorful cast of characters and an entertaining evening is sure to ensue.
