Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra To Swing Through the Sky Conceived by Paul Glenshaw Two of America’s greatest inventions — jazz and aviation — come together in this captivating multimedia performance. Enjoy a stunning visual experience, exuberant dance, an insightful narrative, and the swinging sounds of big band music performed by our local jazz powerhouse! At the dawn of the 20th century, two great Americans – Louis Armstrong and Charles Lindbergh – were born one year apart. Their lives took them in very different directions, but each rode a wave of new American energy that changed the world and inspired generations that followed. Artistic Director and alto sax virtuoso Jim Carroll leads this group of outstanding jazz musicians from the greater D.C. metro area in this unique journey celebrating two truly American innovations. Presented as part of the STEAM Table at Mason initiative and The Discovery Forum.

The Midtown Men From the bright lights of Broadway, The Midtown Men bring the swinging sounds of the Sixties to the Hylton Center. These four debonair and supremely talented showmen took Broadway by storm in the hit musical Jersey Boys. Tony Award winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard, and Tony Award nominee J. Robert Spencer share their musical magic performing classic pop favorites from The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Motown, and, of course, The Four Seasons. These charismatic charmers shared the Broadway stage for more than a thousand performances, and delighted television audiences with appearances on The Today Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. The National Circus and Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China Peking Dreams Experience a jaw-dropping spectacle of Chinese circus, acrobatics, and Peking Opera performed by China’s most revered circus artists! Sherlock Holmes skillfully maneuvers through the twisted web of London’s most fascinating cases, which only he can solve. Many of Doyle’s best-known characters are here: the trusty Dr. Watson, the red-headed pawnbroker Jabez Wilson, and Irene Adler, the woman who got away. Compañia Flamenca José Porcel Flamenco Fire Celebrate the art of flamenco with this explosion of vibrant color, passionate rhythm, and enchanting movement by José Porcel, along with his troupe and orchestra. This breathtaking extravaganza represents the golden age of flamenco and showcases the purity and authenticity of this traditional art form. A unique combination of music and dance with gypsy, Jewish, Arabic, and Indian influences, flamenco features deeply emotional dances that are sometimes solemn and sometimes joyful. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band This groundbreaking group reimagines the classic Beatles album, an iconic psychedelic masterpiece of the Sixties, with new arrangements from jazz, pop, and classical composers. Hailed by Rolling Stone as “the most important rock and roll album ever made,” Sgt. Pepper’s includes many wellknown and loved songs like “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” “When I’m Sixty-Four,” and “A Day in the Life.” Hailing from Canada, the Art of Time Ensemble collaborates with a group of vocalists led by Steven Page of the Barenaked Ladies to create a nostalgic and innovative concert experience. Artistic Director Andrew Burashko uniquely combines high art and popular culture in this amazing concert. A Chanticleer Christmas We celebrate the beginning of each Christmas season by filling Merchant Hall with the soaring voices and lush, flawless harmonies of these twelve male a cappella singers. Chanticleer brings to our stage a glorious concert of Christmas songs from across the ages. Called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by New Yorker, this Grammy Awardwinning ensemble performs music that spans more than a thousand years of vocal literature, including ancient hymns, venerated sacred music, popular songs, and American and European Christmas carols and spirituals. Our favorite pops orchestra decks the hall with cherished Christmas carols, beloved holiday favorites, and popular songs of the season. The Band of the Royal Marines and the Pipes, Drums, and Highland Dancers of the Scots Guards All of the pomp and grandeur that characterizes centuries of British military tradition are on display when these military bands take the stage in their full regalia. The very best of Great Britain comes to the Hylton Center, filling Merchant Hall with the distinctive sounds of bagpipes, brass, and stirring anthems, combined with the visual spectacle of regimental marches and authentic Scottish Highland dancing. The Band of the Royal Marines, with some of the finest military musicians in the world, has supported the British naval service for nearly 250 years, originally providing the beat for columns of marching men. The Band of the Scots Guards has boosted morale for British troops for three centuries. Today, its duties include daily performances at Buckingham Palace for the Changing of the Guard, in addition to a robust touring schedule. All of Potter’s popular characters are along for the ride, from Squirrel Nutkin to Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, and Jemima Puddleduck to Thomasina Tittlemouse. With this delightful performance, Peter Rabbit and friends celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of this beloved British children’s author. The adventures and misadventures of these cherished characters have enchanted young readers for well over a century, when the precocious young rabbit first hopped out of the pages of a storybook and into children’s hearts. The Enchantment Theatre Company brings this captivating performance for children filled with fantastic masks, whimsical puppets, gorgeous scenery, and original music.

There’s So Much to Enjoy at the Hylton Center In addition to the Hylton Presents and Hylton Family Series events that you see in this brochure, there are numerous other outstanding performances presented throughout the year by our Resident Arts Partners. The Hylton Center’s Resident Arts Partners are established organizations from Prince William County and the City of Manassas who present a vibrant and diverse selection of performing arts experiences right here in our critically acclaimed performance spaces.

MANASSAS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA The Americans November 7 at 7:30 p.m. Praised by critics and judges for his “confidence, spontaneity, and brilliance” and as “an excellent, mature artist with a warm musicianship and an admirable talent,” American Prize-winning pianist Anthony Michael Cornet joins the Manassas Symphony for an all-American program, including Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Copland’s Rodeo.

Child’s Play December 12 at 4:30 p.m. The Manassas Symphony’s annual family concert celebrates the imagination of children at play. Featuring Patriot High School flutist Natalie Wong and Kid Pan Alley, with new songs written and performed by students from Chris Yung Elementary School in Bristow.

From the British Isles March 5 at 7:30 p.m. The Manassas Symphony celebrates the charming and breathtaking music of English composers. MSO Principal Cellist Diana Chou takes center stage for Elgar’s Cello Concerto. The concert closes with Vaughan Williams’ rhapsodic Symphony No. 2 (A London Symphony).

Musical Titans May 14 at 7:30 p.m. Polish-American pianist Tomasz Robak, Second Prizewinner in the Beethoven Club’s 15th Biennial International Beethoven Sonata Competition, plays Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. The Manassas Symphony is joined by student musicians to conclude the season with Mahler’s giant Symphony No. 1. 16

MANASSAS CHORALE Princesses and Pirates October 2 at 7:30 p.m. Manassas Chorale’s twenty-second season begins with a show designed for all ages! You’ll hear the best songs from Disney movies and rollicking songs of the sea sung by the full Chorale, its ensemble, and soloists.

The Spirit of Christmas December 5 at 5 p.m. Traditional carols and timeless songs of the season performed by 100 auditioned singers with live orchestra. You’ll be in the Christmas spirit from the first notes to the final chord!

Voices United – With Hearts and Hands and Voices March 19 at 7:30 p.m. The annual Voices United concert features 180 singers and 20 instrumentalists sharing songs spanning decades of choral tradition, including today’s composers and arrangers.

Postcards from America June 3 at 7:30 p.m. The Manassas Chorale’s season concludes with a patriotic and joyful tribute to America. Join the Chorale on a journey across the country as they “travel” to various states and salute the U.S.A. and its citizens.

This production opens MBT’s 2015–16 season, which builds on a spectacular time of artistic and company growth in 2014–15.

Known for its exquisite costumes, choreography and scenery, MBT’s production is quickly becoming Northern Virginia’s go-to family tradition.

October 16, 17, 23, 24 at 8 p.m.; October 18, 25 at 2 p.m. The story of power, conspiracy, and the chaos that follows the downfall of dictatorship has been played out with rebellion and governments toppling in every age and in every corner of the globe. In a modern parallel, the end of the Cold War provides the backdrop for PWLT’s Julius Caesar, as the clash of ideals and power struggle within communist party leadership result in the ultimate deconstruction of the Soviet Empire.

Dances and Divertissements — A Spring Sampler March 11, 12 at 7:30 p.m.; March 13 at 3 p.m. Join MBT for its annual spring program featuring a mixed repertoire of both classical pieces and exciting, original choreography, accompanied by the Manassas Ballet Theatre Orchestra. With several up-and-coming choreographers within the company, this offering promises to be a highlight of MBT’s ballet season.

Sherlock Holmes and the West End Horror March 11, 12, 18, 19 at 8 p.m.; March 13, 20 at 2 p.m. Holmes and Watson strive to solve the murder of a despicable theatre critic. The play is a mixture of murder, mystery, and mayhem. It includes all the twists and turns one expects from Mr. Sherlock Holmes.

Cinderella May 20, 21 at 7:30 p.m.; May 22 at 3 p.m. MBT closes the season with the classic fairy tale ballet, Cinderella. With its familiar storyline, lush costumes and custom scenery, the ballet has been an audience favorite since it debuted at the Bolshoi in 1945. The jubilant musical score, composed by Sergei Prokofiev and here performed by the Manassas Ballet Theatre Orchestra, is a highlight of the production.

YOUTH ORCHESTRAS OF PRINCE WILLIAM Season Premiere November 22 at 3 p.m. Celebrate the holiday season in classical style. Featuring performances by eight of YOPW’s top ensembles, the concert will mark the premiere of the Advanced Chorus showcasing choral students in grades 6-9. Thomas Pandolfi, piano Russian Romance Tuesday, October 6 Thomas Pandolfi returns to the Hylton with a program entitled Russian Romance. Come and enjoy a program filled with the soaring, lush romanticism of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, as well as the rhythmic and steely brilliance of Kabalevsky and Prokofiev. A Taste of Opera Tuesday, November 17 Honored by the General Assembly as the “Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia,” Virginia Opera performs a program of opera favorites by the talented young professionals of the Emerging Artists Program.
