the Floracultural Green Pods

+2nd Year Fall 2007 to Winter 2008 + Course: Studio + Instructor: Milijana Horvat Individual Project

The project started with a question on the relationship between urban food consumer and suburban farmers. Most of condominium residents heavily rely on getting their food from big food market chains such as Sobeys or Metros.

Without having any understanding of where their food comes from and how they are grown, urban citizens are suffering from obesity, nutrient deficiency, and metabolic syndrome.

The site is located right across one of the cultural landmarks in Toronto, Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). The goal is to design a condominium that meets required residential and commerical programmings and raise the awareness on the possibility of urban farming along the major city blocks and street.

The design focuses on self-sustaining residential condominium that encourages urban farming on both commerical and residential floors and provides green spaces for a peaceful environment and a perfect getaway away from all the hustles of the Bloor Street.

“The greenary pods” can be seen from Bloor Street. Residents are given their own soil plots in the Pods where they can grow any vegetables and edible plants. The community can be created around this urban farming activities. Neighbors can take care of one another’s plants and share their harvest.

“I have found principles of form and rhythm from the study of natural objects, such as pebbles, rocks, bones, trees, and plants” The Henry Moore Waterfront Museum wishes to be identified with both the water edge and the park edge character of the site, and desires an entrance off the park, while making an identifiable presence to the water edge.

The site, waterfront communicates with Henry Moore’s flowing sculpture forms. The project also focuses on an interaction between building programs on different floors and how visitors circulate one from another.

The bridge connecting two massing of building adds dynamic element inside. The exterior facade not only controls the amount of sunlight whilst protecting artwork. The shadow created by the façade in the atrium mimics the rhythm of water flowing in and out of the shore.

04 flo ra i gn i us + 3rd Year Fall 2009 +Course: Digital Tool +Instructor: Vincent Hui +Team: Ghazal Taikandi,Hyebin Yoon (design, instrution illustration, page layout) The design objective was to build a lamp which is designed as a ready-to-assemble light fixture using minimum amount of materials so that all lamp assembly pieces can be fit into 8.5� by 11� envelop.

The lamp design concept evolved around trapped light in magical flower pedals. The origami technique were experimented as folded paper creates curved surfaces and offers rigidity at the same time. The challenges were to produce a lamp that can be both portable and can be assembled by anyone who purchase the package. Paper is a light material and can be easily manipulated. The selected paper was both textured and translucent enough to let the light shines through and express its true material characteristic and form when it is lit. The ideal lamp design heightens both the beauty of light and the beauty of the materials used in its production. We succeed in both aspects.

Its second prototypes was displayed at the atrium of architectural science building at Ryerson.

The Sangam Community Centre is a community recreation centre for the Sangam District in Seoul. The program includes 500-seat theater, 4000 sq. ft. swimming pools, fitness and multi-purpose hall components and support facilities. At the site level, the building organizes the different site geometries and creates an urban space that becomes the focal point of the site, working with the existing neighborhood and the public transportation system.

I was responsible for providing Revit modeling and design studies through various technical drawings, which include the structural layout: steel bracing and joints, elevation studies, circulation, and the window glazing pattern on the facade. Options of skylights, green roof and energy efficient glazing were also researched. Various LEED certified community centers’ programming and mass studies were conducted as part of a design research and presented to principal architects.

KBS Media Center + October 2012 - November 2013 + Kunwon Architects Planners Engineers Team: Hee Tae Kim, Won Do Ko, Marin Jo, Juhee Lee, Yong Mo Sung, Hyebin Yoon (techinical working drawing, modeling, design research)

This design primarily focused on presenting the creative image of the future of the media center, which is scheduled for completion within a twoyear time frame. Based on the rational infrastructure of the DMC, excellent spaces for broadcast production, an academy, a conservatory, and offices are clustered together. These are all implemented so as to be perfectly balanced with the atrium, by being separately controlled and enjoying flexibility.

Our KBS Media Center was not designed solely as a building for use

by KBS Media, but as a medium-media of the city, called the DMC. Therefore, it will be recognized as a window into the media world within the DMC, and a geological gate from outside of the DMC.
