BIM Policy

Purpose and scope

At Hydrock, we recognise the benefits that collaborative Building Information Modelling (BIM) brings to our business and to the wider construction industry, which is undergoing a digital transformation that includes the UK Government mandate to deliver public sector projects to the UK BIM Framework. This policy sets out our high-level approach to BIM and how we will implement it within the business.

Introduction

Our policy is to deliver multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy services for building and civil engineering projects, large or small, in accordance with the international BIM standard BS EN ISO , and to the UK BIM Framework whenever required. Our approach is communicated to all staff via our BIM Standard and the "Digital Hydrock" how-to guide.

Our BIM Working Group has representative from each of our engineering divisions and drives the implementation of BIM across the business. The working group defines policy, maintains knowledge and standards and supports training

Who must comply with this Policy?

The policy applies to all parts of the business providing design activities/resources and outputs to clients where the client requests, or regulation requires, that the project is delivered in a BIM environment.

What we will do

We will:

» Operate a BS EN ISO compliant file directory, file naming and document control procedure consistently across the business.

» Deliver projects compliant with the project BIM Execution Plan, in response to the appointing party’s Project Information Standard For all other projects our BS EN ISO compliant BIM Standard takes precedence.

» Use proprietary authoring software (e g Revit & Civils D) to produce data-rich three-dimensional models for engineering designs, containing the required graphical and non-graphical information, to the appropriate level of definition to produce project documentation such as D drawings schedules specifications and COBie data drops throughout the project.

» Collaboratively review (through Navisworks) and share our D models with design and construction teams via common data environments throughout the project delivery stages

» Develop and coordinate the design, and ultimately contribute to the federated asset information model provided to the client at project handover.

» Provide appropriate training at various levels, from the company-wide "Digital Hydrock" procedures, (which are provided to all staff) to project-level BIM training for specific projects and common data environments, to specific D authoring software training at an individual level
