THE sleek and stylish HYDRA ZODIAC has been designed specifically for the UK EV home-charging market - IP65 weatherproofing to prevent dust and water ingress as well as UV protection - but it also has a commercial sibling which can take advantage of a three-phase power grid to deliver a charging output of upto 22kW.
The Hydra Zodiac is a very affordable, lower cost option for the discerning EV owner as it offers a simpler installation without the need for an additional earthing rod and can be
connected directly to the main consumer unit to give 7kW of smart charging power, either with an open socket to attach the cable that came with your EV or as a tethered design which includes a 4.8m cable. (Cables are also available separately if you wish to keep one at home as well as in the boot of your car)
The RESIDENTIAL 7KW HYDRA ZODIAC can communicate with our HYDRA HOME APP to commence and monitor EV charging with times optimised to take full advantage of low-cost energy tariffs offered by some utility
companies. In standby mode the power consumption is just 2w. Simple LED indicators will show the charging status of the vehicle.
The COMMERCIAL 22KW HYDRA ZODIAC can utilise a three-phase power grid more commonly found in commercial and industrial premises to charge at the higher rate of up to 22kW for those vehicles which are able to make use of it.
Both 7kW and 22kW chargers can also be installed as part of a company-wide network offering multiple charge points in one car park or even at multiple sites nationwide. Our HYDRA CLOUD monitoring and management facility gives the real-time status of each individual chargepoint as well as offering reports on peak and overall usage.
The highest possible standard of safety features are built in to every Hydra EV charger, the Zodiac benefits from over/under voltage protection, overload protection, leakage protection, over-current protection and built-in PEN detection.
Available in a range of colours, the Zodiac offers a minimalistic design while maintaining market-leading quality and longer lifespan.

Originally designed as a no-nonsense and robust workplace EV chargepoint the Echo has been updated with a more aesthetic design but retains the 7kW or 22kW output options from a standard three-phase AC electrical supply. The Echo+ will also have the option of fitting a Contactless Payment Terminal for those installing in a public space.
THE Hydra JOVI was designed and produced in response to customer demand for a wall-mounted Hydra Genesis alternative –our best-selling commercial, workplace and destination charging station.
While offering the same dual-output charging – either 7kW or 22kW – the housing is much more compact and suitable for wall mounting. Making it ideal for locations where space is a premium and a standalone totemdesign, similar to the Genesis, is not suitable.
Wall mounting an EV chargepoint can also significantly reduce the installation costs as no major infrastruc ture work is required, other than installing the power cables to the chargepoints. Therefore the Hydra JOVI is perfect for covered car parks and parking spaces alongside a building or other solid structure.
Being dual output, only one JOVI is required to serve two EV parking spots, further reducing costs and streamlining the installation process. The smaller form-factor of the JOVI does
not impact the robust construction and reliability, nor does it limit the power and flexibility of the EV charging functions. The housing is metal, similar to our Genesis, to ensure many years of prolonged use.
Available in either dual 7kW or dual 22kW output versions. The 22kW unit offers faster charging for electric vehicles which can
accommodate a higher level of AC charge input and can be connected to any threephase 400v AC supply, similar to that which can be found in larger industrial premises, hotels and office blocks.
Charging a standard EV at 22kW can add up to 90 miles of range for each hour of charging, making this perfect for vehicles which are parked for longer periods, such as during the working day or at a hospitality venue.
The tethered unit – complete with 5m charging leads and industry standard Type-2 charging guns – ensures the JOVI is always ready to charge. The socket-only versions require the EV driver to use their own charging cables. The Jovi can be commissioned to allow access to the charging functions in a variety of ways: Plug and Charge, RFID card, Scan and Pay or Contactless Payment Terminal.
The Hydra JOVI has built-in safety functions which can shut down the charger if it detects input under voltage, input overvoltage, output short-circuit, output overvoltage, output over-current, battery reverse connection, insulation detection, communication failure, etc. Additionally there is an optional fail-safe emergency stop button which can be manually operated in the event of a failure.
• Dual-output Type-2 charging

As with all Hydra EV charging solutions, the Hydra Genesis is OCPP compliant which allows secure and real-time communications with our unique Hydra Cloud or Hydra Nexus management platforms via a wired network or 4G data connection.
These both offer a complete EV charging management facility allowing real-time monitoring of your entire network, recording current and peak usage as well as revenues of individual chargepoint locations and your entire network.
The Hydra Genesis dual-output models require a 400v three-phase electrical supply, which can be found in larger industrial
premises and office blocks, which is sufficient power for the Genesis to deliver dual 7kW, 22kW or 43kW charging power (for vehicles which can accommodate a higher AC input).
The Hydra Genesis has built-in safety functions which can shut down the charger if it detects input under voltage, input over-voltage, output short-circuit, output over-
voltage, output over-current, battery reverse connection, insulation detection, communication failure, etc.
The Genesis was designed from scratch to be a highly efficient and reliable EV charging solution with very low maintenance overheads, very low 2W standby power usage and flexible networkable expansion potential.

WITH public EV charging becoming increasingly accessible it brings with it an abundance of apps and web portals in order to capture payments from EV drivers. Before you know it you could have a dozen apps relating to numerous different Chargepoint brands and it all becomes a bit overwhelming.
Hydra EVC is proud to partner with world leading companies to offer a simple, streamlined payment process, so the only thing your EV customers need to worry about is how to occupy themselves while they get a quick charge in.
We support two payment methods on our chargepoints: The conventional ‘Scan & Pay’ method will prompt the EV driver to scan a QR code which takes them to a virtual payment page on their phone allowing them to make payment with any credit or debit card online. This solution is functional, however if the EV user does not own a smart device, has no signal or smart phone battery it leaves them without a method to pay.
The second option is our intelligently designed PENSIO contactless payment system. Our chargepoints benefit from contactless direct payment using a debit card, credit card or virtual wallet payment method such as Apple Pay or Google Pay.
This turn-key solution will allow EV users the freedom to use either a physical or virtual
payment, increasing your potential visitor charging sessions, which in turn offers more consistent revenue from your public charge points.
Maximise revenue from your chargepoints by allowing EV drivers to find and use them: Hydra chargepoints can be switched from private to public at the flick of a switch.
If your chargers are not in use outside of business hours or you simply want to charge your visitors for charging at your sites, all of this can be managed through the Hydra NEXUS online platform.
PENSIO can be built into your chargepoint so all that is required is installation of your chargepoint and commissioning by our friendly Hydra Approved installation partners. This does incur additional charges for commissioning and maintenance of your PENSIO device.
As client payment information is highly sensitive Hydra Nexus or whichever back office platform you choose to integrate with handles all all of transactions directly, capturing and depositing payments directly into your nominated account (the exact fulfilment process is dependent on the management platform).
The costs are as follows:
From £30 per connector per year
£10/month service fee per charger
From 6.5% per charging session
Hydra EVC strives to offer a full turnkey solution to our customer base, this includes our products integrated with PENSIO payment module
The PENSIO terminal offers an attractive looking unit with a high-resolution colour touchscreen to engage your consumers. The screen features Gorilla Glass, which safeguards the device from vandalism.

LOAD balancing the power distribution for a multi-chargepoint installation is essential to optimise the charging output of each chargepoint and monitoring the overall power usage for the site.
Dynamically managing the power load can reduce expensive infrastructure and power capacity upgrades allowing a site to operate safely and efficiently within the available power limits.
Our commercial DLB solution can be integrated with our unique HYDRA NEXUS cloud-based EVC management platform to constantly monitor the power being drawn by each chargepoint in real-time, communicate that to the cloud, and seamlessly distribute the total available power in a few miliseconds according to requirements.
The DLB communicates via OCPP compliant protocols via a wired (RJ45 Ethernet) connection or wirelessly using a 4G data SIM.
The wireless option also reduces installation costs and time by removing the requirement for a fixed comms line. This could be a crucial feature in multi-chargepoint installations where physical access to a router or communication hub is not available.
To keep power consumption within the limits of each site the DLB will prioritise charging power between each charger and optimise output to ensure that each EV is adequately charged.
If a number of EVs are plugged in at once the power to individual EVs can be reduced once they reach 80% to maximise power delivered to an EV on a lower level of charge.
• Dynamic Load Balancing for multichargepoint sites
• Maintains safe maximum load for each site
• Hydra Nexus cloud monitoring and management
• Wired or Wireless communications (4G SIM)
• Balanced charge output dependant on sitewide usage
• Prioritised VIP or subscription charging facility
• Instantaneous adjustments to power output across a network of chargepoints
THE Hydra Domestic Load Balancing Unit (DLB) intelligently monitors energy consumption and generation (if solar panels are used) for the whole household.
Dynamically monitoring total energy usage around the home the Hydra DLB can optimise the power used by the Zodiac EV chargepoint to ensure total safety for the house and prevents overloading.
As it can also monitor energy generated from a solar PV array and domestic electricity storage batteries, the power grid within the household can be adjusted and optimised to get the best use from the available energy sources. Taking energy direct from the PV inverter when required rather than the consumer unit.
LTHOUGH the Hydra DLB has been developed for use as a load balancing facility it is also perfect for use where the household may have Solar Panels and/or battery storage.
The DLB connects to the main electric feed from the consumer unit using a CT clamp. If the house also has a solar PV array it also connects to the output of the inverter. The DLB then communicates wirelessly with the Zodiac chargepoint to optimise EV charging power.
The DLB can monitor electrical power consumption across the whole house including energy drawn from a battery storage system or generated from a Solar PV array. Prioritising energy from renewables to charge an EV allows the owner to minimise the environmental impact of their car.
Ideal for housing developers and homeowners, the EV Tower is ahead of the game and provides a neat solution to install and mount our Hydra Zodiac and Echo EV chargers either as a single unit or as a back-to-back double mount. The pedestal can also include cable hangers and dummy socket to keep everything tidy when not in use.
