Our vision, curriculum and campus transformation

Our vision. One community. One campus.
For nearly four centuries, Hutchesons’ Grammar School has stood at the heart of Glasgow education - shaping generations of pupils to lead, learn and thrive.
“Today, we are proud to unveil a transformative vision for Hutchesons’”, one that builds on our heritage and shapes the experience of every pupil.
• One campus - from August 2027, Primary pupils will join their peers at Beaton Road, creating a single, purpose - designed Campus for Excellence.
• A refreshed curriculum - from Pre-School to S6, designed to give pupils clarity, confidence and opportunity at every stage of their journey.
• Our vision, mission and values - reaffirming what Hutchesons’ stands for: a school where every child is empowered to belong, flourish and achieve.

This is an exciting new chapter for Hutchesons’. By aligning our curriculum, campus and values, we are ensuring a unified educational experience for every child, both now and in the future.”
- MARK RONAN, RECTOR & CEO
These changes represent the next step in Hutchesons’ long journey of innovation, inclusion and excellence. We are deeply proud of our past and our focus is on preparing pupils for success and to make a positive contribution to society.
With our enhanced vision, curriculum and campus, Hutchesons’ will continue to shape confident, compassionate, creative young people - ready to thrive in whatever future they choose.
Together, these developments signal a clear ambition: to ensure that every Hutchesons’ pupil has the support, opportunities and environment they need to reach their full potential - now and in the future.
Hutchesons’ is embarking on an exciting new chapter - and we are committed to shaping it together with our school community.
A consultation exercise will ensure that pupils, parents, teachers and staff are fully engaged in informing the next stage of planning and design.
From August 2027, Hutchesons’ Primary pupils will join their peers at Beaton Road, creating a single, purpose-designed Campus for Excellence where our learning, nurturing school community comes together on one site.
Bringing our Primary and Secondary Schools together unlocks new opportunities for every pupil while preserving the strengths, traditions, and identity that make Hutchesons’ unique. This is more than a relocation - it is an investment in our future, shaped by four key priorities:
• Strong Identity - a strong Hutchesons’ presence, underpinned by designs that reflect our proud heritage.
• Green Landscape - green, softer spaces designed for outdoor learning, recreation, and wellbeing.
• Smart Working - smart, more collaborative spaces for pupils and staff, supporting modern teaching and learning.
• Safe and secure - a fully enclosed campus.

From August 2027, the Primary School will relocate into a dedicated area of the Beaton Road campus.
• Flexible classrooms - bright, adaptable spaces connected to landscaped outdoor learning areas.
• New furniture and décor - creating inspiring, welcoming spaces.
• Specialist facilities - direct access to dedicated science, computing, art, music, drama and sport spaces
A future aim is for all Pre-School pupils to be based at Hutchesons’ at Pollok Park (H@PP)the school’s dedicated early years and outdoor learning hub. This would bring our two distinct Pre-School experiences into a single, purposedesigned setting:
• Outdoor learning - with children mainly immersed in nature-based discovery.
• Classroom learning - with regular additional opportunities to enjoy outdoor exploration and play.
Both pathways are underpinned by the same Hutchesons’ Pre-School curriculum, ensuring every child benefits from:
• A balance of indoor and outdoor learning.
• Exceptional facilities tailored to their needs.
• A smooth transition into Primary at Beaton Road.
Hutchesons’ will work closely with pupils to ensure future developments are informed by their voices and their needs:
• Pupil engagement – consultation will help shape how learning and social spaces evolve.
• Enhanced landscaped outdoor spaces –inviting feedback on how best to support wellbeing and create inspiring areas for everyone.
Alongside this, Secondary pupils will also benefit from the refreshed curriculum, which introduces Schools of Excellence and a collegiate modelgiving older pupils greater identity, belonging and flexibility in their learning journey.

Developments in learning and workspaces will be shaped through consultation:
• We will work with teachers to shape department areas into collaborative spaces to support collegiate working and opportunities for cross-departmental learning.
• Support Staff will be consulted on the design of a single extended hub to bring together Primary and Secondary administration, strengthening cohesion and efficiency.
This commitment to engagement will ensure the development of the campus reflects the voices of our school community.

We are investing in more than buildings. We are investing in the future of every Hutchesons’ pupil.”
- MARK RONAN, RECTOR & CEO
The colocation of the Primary School in August 2027 is the first step in an ambitious journey.
Hutchesons’ will evolve Beaton Road into a Campus for Excellence, blending heritage and innovation to inspire our pupils.
• Colocation delivers smarter use of existing buildings now (flexible, modern spaces that support efficient timetabling and collaborative teaching).
• Future phases embed sustainable design principles, so the campus remains environmentally responsible and future ready.
• A planting strategy will include wild and biodiversity zones to enrich learning and wellbeing.

A new safe and welcoming pedestrian access from Beaton Road improving arrival and school visibility.

Reimagining the access court as a green place for our school community to enjoy whilst exemplifying how to adapt to climate change.

A diverse space to learn and socialise, that can be enjoyed by everyone in the school.

Beaton Road will be a Campus for Excellence, future ready and greener - where outdoor learning, innovation and wellbeing sit at the heart of the Hutchesons’ experience.

At Hutchesons’, we believe education should prepare every pupil for life. The world our young people are growing into is changing rapidly - demanding creativity, adaptability, collaboration, and confidence.
That is why we have reimagined our curriculum from the ground up. Built around our Vision - to empower every pupil to Belong, Flourish and Achieve - it gives every child the clarity, flexibility and opportunity they need to grow, succeed and thrive.
Our Values - Honesty and Compassion, Resilience and Independence, Curiosity and Creativity - guide how we deliver this vision every day in classrooms, co-curricular activities and pastoral care.
The refreshed curriculum combines the best of Hutchesons’ tradition with a future-focused vision:
• Clarity at every stage - pupils, parents and teachers share a clear understanding of progression, expectations, and opportunities from Pre-School, through to Primary and Senior School.
• Greater personalisation - pupils increasingly shape their own journey, discovering what inspires them, reflecting their strengths and ambitions.
• A broader education - we have expanded opportunities for critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and leadership, while maintaining academic rigour at every stage.
• Future readiness - beyond knowledge, we focus on skills that matter: digital fluency, global citizenship, enterprise, and emotional intelligence.

The curriculum flows seamlessly from early foundations to specialised pathways:
1. Building solid foundations - A carefully structured progression in literacy, numeracy, science, the arts, and personal development sets pupils up for success.
2. Exploring breadth and depth -→ As pupils move through their learning, they are encouraged to follow their curiosity, test ideas, and discover passions.
This is a curriculum, which will continue to evolve, and will celebrate every pupil’s story - helping them shape their learning, find their voice, and step into their future with confidence.
Pupils are supported to design their own journey:
• Enrichment programmes - from international trips and sustainability projects to digital innovation and enterprise challenges.
• Leadership opportunities - through mentoring, sport, creative arts, and community partnerships.
• Real-world experience - university collaborations, workplace projects, and exposure to industries and professions.
Every child will leave Hutchesons’ not just with strong academic results but with the confidence, creativity and resilience to thrive in whatever future they choose.

Our refreshed curriculum introduces three “Schools of Excellence”, each representing a pathway, combining subjects, enrichment opportunities, and industry connections to prepare pupils for the world beyond Hutchesons’.
