EXPERT TIPS FOR YOUR PICKER

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 8

Cotton picking data is important so check the software for your display, receiver and harvest ID controller. Delete previous picking DATA and have the new set-up file loaded and ready to go with correct grower and GIN ID details. If your picker has JDConnect then check the subscription expiry date and also make sure your partnership details are correct for the grower or GIN to have access to the module information.

Perform the Standard Yield Calibration at the start of each harvest season in field. Harvest a yield sample of 3 modules & weigh the 3 modules. Check the module serial numbers are changing as you start picking.

Always clean your picker starting from the top of the machine, working down to the bottom in each operating mode. Ensure there is no cotton or trash around the forming belts or rollers and the feeder belts, as this will affect the way the belt will track. Be sure to remove any cotton trash from any speed sensors on the machine.

Clean each row unit and check for spindle wrap and plugging of cotton in the doffer column. Check and clean the moisture pads and doffer door sensor plate. Make sure the suction doors are free of debris. Check the pressure plate door and adjust as needed.

Check the spindle to doffer height and spindle to moisture tower and adjust as needed.

Carry out the lube and tether for the row units and check for grease to come out of at least two of the top six spindles on each spindle bar. Whilst checking, look for dead spindles.

After cleaning or transporting the machine, be sure the leading edge of the wrap is pulled forward and in the right position. Check the plastic fingers aren’t missing. They can sometimes rearward when opening and closing the gate. Check the steel fingers don’t contact the forming belts.

Make sure to warm the machine up before you start picking. The best way is to run the fans, row units and press on the foot switch to run the RMB, and be at high idle for 5 to 10 minutes. You will need to run the machine longer in cooler weather before you start picking.

Remember that at the end of the day you need to empty the machine and not leave any cotton in the accumulator and RMB.

~ Must be a myBMP certified grower to receive 5% discount. Offer ends 31st January 2021. +375hr interval applies to John Deere Cotton Pickers as they have a lesser capacity which requires the oil to be drained more frequently.

myBMP With Cotton now being produced on around 1,500 farms in Australia, it is no surprise that the Cotton Industry is taking off. Predominately grown throughout parts of New South Wales and Queensland, Cotton is the most used textile in the world. Known for its strength, breathability and versatility, the Australian Cotton Industry is aiming to produce the finest cotton possible. myBMP is the Australian Cotton Industries voluntary program that aims to implement a successful best management program for growers. With this initiative, growers are provided with a range of resources that cover key areas of farming operations at the “highest social and environmental levels”. With its online self-assessment program, growers are able to identify their level of practice and seamlessly implement each of the myBMP modules into their everyday farming practice, regardless of the size of their Cotton Operation. The myBMP program is a free information system that can be tailored to suit your needs and is designed to benefit all users with farming practices; large or small. myBMP offers comprehensive support & assistance for growers and all the latest information is linked to its own reference source. These sources provide definitions, explanations, templates, tips and links to further information to ensure you are compliant! myBMP is structured into 10 key modules, these modules are: • Biosecurity • Energy and Input Efficiency • Fibre Quality • Human Resources and Work Health and Safety • Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

• • • • •

Sustainable Natural Landscape Pesticide Management Petrochemical Storage and Handling Soil Health Water Management

Within each module there are key areas with standards that are supported by a checklist. Each check list is then assigned a level; • Level 1: What you must do. It is has been identified as a legal requirement. • Level 2: What you should do. This is industry identified best practice standards. • Level 3: Innovative practices. With the online self-assessment you are able to set a benchmark or become myBMP certified. As myBMP is web based it allows all of your information to be electronically stored. It can be accessed as required with an action plan feature to provide a useful list to identify checklist items required to complete the assessment. For more information on myBMP or how to become a certified myBMP grower, visit the myBMP website: www.mybmp.com.au.

TRADE & UPGRADE WE WANT YOUR GREENSTAR! DO YOU HAVE OLD RECEIVERS LYING AROUND? WE WILL BUY OR TRADE YOUR OLD RECEIVERS!

Why upgrade to the John Deere StarFire 6000 Receiver? GREATER ACCURACY: The John Deere StarFire 6000 Receiver is an enhanced replacement for the StarFire 3000 Receiver and expands on the value that precision agriculture growers have come to expect from StarFire products. The StarFire 6000 Receiver implements an improved antenna, the latest in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal processing technology, and a differential correction signal. This technology adds up to improved performance and uptime as well as lower cost of operation when paired with precision agriculture systems such as AutoTrac™ assisted steering system and John Deere Section Control. Accuracy improvements are as follows: • • •

SF1 on a 6000 receiver will give you +/- 15 cm horizontal pass-to-pass accuracy, compared to +/- 25 cm on a 3000 receiver. SF3 on a 6000 receiver will give you +/- 3 cm horizontal pass-to-pass accuracy, compared to +/- 5 cm on an SF2 3000 receiver. No repeatability calculation on a 3000 receiver compared to a 6000 running SF3 of +/- 3 cm in season and RTK of +/- 2.5 cm long term.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF RTK EXTEND™ SYSTEM FOR UP TO 14 DAYS: RTK operators have experienced the value that RTK Extend provides when operating in areas where communication with the RTK base station or mobile RTK network is challenging, such as in hilly terrain or heavy trees. The StarFire 6000 and StarFire 6000 Integrated make another step change in RTK Extend performance compared to their predecessor, delivering RTK Extend for up to 14 days. Compare this to the previous StarFire 3000 Receiver that was only capable of RTK Extend of up to 15 minutes.

IMPROVE UPTIME WITH MULTIPLE STARFIRE SIGNAL TRACKING The StarFire 6000 and StarFire 6000 Integrated Receivers simultaneously track correction signals from up to three StarFire correction satellites. The receiver tracks and uses correction signals from all StarFire satellites in view and intelligently chooses one that delivers the best performance. When the receiver moves into an area where the primary StarFire signal is blocked, such as near a tree line, the receiver automatically switches to an alternate StarFire signal (if visible) to help maintain accuracy and performance. Compare this to the previous StarFire 3000 Receiver that was only capable of tracking one StarFire signal at a time and could wait up to four minutes to initiate the switch to the next available signal. With the StarFire 6000 and StarFire 6000 Integrated Receivers, the user has improved performance and uptime when operating precision agriculture systems, like AutoTrac™ assisted steering system and Section Control in challenging areas, when compared to the previous StarFire

3000.

COTTON PICKER PARTS GATE LATCH WEAR PLATE KIT On 7760 and CP690 cotton pickers prior to MY16, the gate latch hook end can wear to a point where the gate will not latch or will unlatch during module formation. The gate latch wear plate provides heat-treated hardened plates and mounting plate which welds over the hook. These plates provide replaceable wear surfaces which provide longer wear at the critical latch point. NUMBER

RMW®BLUE THE NEW ALTERNATIVE WRAP RMW®BLUE has been developed over several years through extensive trials in the USA, Brazil and Australia in order to give RMW® users a greater choice of product. RMW®BLUE is made from NON-TACKY RMW® WRAP WITH AN ADHESIVE TAIL to keep the bale intact. This latest product development offers an economical option for RMW users who are price sensitive. IDENTICAL FEATURES: • Wrap length, width and thickness • Wraps per roll • RFID per roll • Rolls per pallet • Labels • Identification System • Cutting Zone indicator • Fully Supported by Tama DIFFERENCES • Wrap is constructed of non tacky film only - As a result of no tack, BLUE bales may slump more than Yellow and Pink modules. The BLUE has a very strong adhesive tail to ensure the wrap is held on the module from baling to ginning. Extra care is required in all handling operations of the BLUE modules. There is an increased risk of tearing the wrap if undue force is applied, especially to a small area.

SPINDLE GREASE & CLEANER WHY TAKE A CHEAP SHORTCUT? John Deere Spindle Grease and Cleaner is designed to not only reduce the maintenance cost and down time of the picker heads, they are also designed to work together to ensure the highest efficiency possible from the picker heads. Grease & Cleaner only accounts for a very small amount of the total operating expenses of a round module Picker. A cheaper lower spec grease and /or cleaner can easily mean that the harvester misses or could leave at least one round module behind every day that it is working. That one (or more) extra module, would more than pay for the grease and cleaner used over many days, So why take a cheap shortcut?

WHY JOHN DEERE GREASE? Many of the cheaper greases are not designed or dedicated for Cotton Picker Spindles & their application. Only Australian made John Deere Cotton Spindle Grease is made to suit the John Deere JD360T specification that we use in Australia. When choosing grease for your Cotton Picker don’t just look at the price per kg. Pay attention to how much grease you are using to work out what the cost is per hour. You should be using approx. 6 kg per hour in a round module picker. Too much grease per hour means a cheap price may not be cheap. Too little grease and it is probably not doing the job either. Regardless of the cost, the very small amount of money to be saved by cheap grease does not compare to the thousands of dollars in the maintenance of picker heads that can be saved by using the best performing grease. John Deere’s Spindle Grease minimizes wear for optimum performance. Increases time until initial overhaul is required from 2 to 3 years. Reduces operating and maintenance costs and prolongs the life of picker heads. John Deere Grease minimizes your downtime for maintenance and protects against unexpected breakdowns.

PRICE VS PERFORMANCE Spindle Cleaner is a similar argument when it comes to price vs performance. Only John Deere cleaner meets the JD 354 standard. It can be mixed with water at a rate of 20:1 all the way down to 10:1 comfortably & this is also important when comparing prices.

22

WHY SOAP AND WATER AREN’T ENOUGH... Using dishwashing soap instead of a quality spindle cleaner doesn’t protect your picker’s mechanical parts from rust, oxidation and corrosion. Even worse, dishwashing soap actually washes away the lubricating spindle grease from the bushings and attachments, leaving them unprotected.

John Deere Spindle Cleaner does much more than soap and water. Specially formulated, water-in-oil emulsion is compatible with lubricating spindle grease. Won’t wash grease off the bushings like soap and water. Water-soluble oil mix easily clears cotton and sticky plant sap off the spindles and moving parts, even when mixed with extremely hard water. Lubricates and coats the spindles, and maximises spindle doffing. Extends service life of doffers and moisture pads.

Lower-Quality Cleaner

Lower-Quality Grease & Cleaner

John Deere Spindle Cleaner

John Deere Spindle Grease & Cleaner

The spindle cleaned with a lower-quality product, such as a simple soap (left), shows excessive wear, pitting, rust, corrosion and bacteria, compared to the spindle cleaned with John Deere Spindle Cleaner.

Lower-quality spindle cleaner and spindle grease caused excessive corrosion to the spindle gear on the left. John Deere Spindle Cleaner and Grease protected the gear on the right.
