Extremely healthy populations of leopard, lion and hyena roam the habitat as the area’s top predators. The cats and hyena are primarily hunted over bait and success rates are excellent. Hunting any of these elite predators is an adventure of epic proportions and the rewards are well worth the effort when a husky old leopard or a battle-scarred and heavily maned lion are finally in the salt. The taxonomically distinct Roosevelt’s sable is one of the most prolific of the of antelope species in the Niassa reserve.
