The hunting blocks lie in the very heart of Mozambique’s finest big-game country. These vast hunting areas boasts incredible biodiversity and is comprised of various habitats – deciduous Miombo woodlands, open grassland, lush riverine forest, and herbaceous floodplains (vleis), and forested mountain slopes. In addition to its abundant game animals on quota, the hunting area is also home to numerous packs of African wild dogs. These widely persecuted super-predators have sought refuge in the wildest and remotest parts of Africa and we are fortunate to have them in abundance—a true testimony to the unspoiled wilderness of this forgotten corner of Africa.

Extremely healthy populations of leopard, lion and hyena roam the habitat as the area’s top predators. The cats and hyena are primarily hunted over bait and success rates are excellent. Hunting any of these elite predators is an adventure of epic proportions and the rewards are well worth the effort when a husky old leopard or a battle-scarred and heavily maned lion are finally in the salt. Without reservation, we offer the hunter who wants either of these coveted trophies some of the finest cat hunting left in Africa. The taxonomically distinct Roosevelt’s sable is one of the most prolific of the of antelope species in the Niassa reserve. With its jet-black coat, we offer tremendous opportunities for this unique and striking animal.

The endemic Böehm’s zebra with its distinctive thin stripes and smaller body size makes for an exceptional trophy, not to mention excellent bait on a lion hunt! The geographically rare Niassa wildebeest are found only here and in the nearby Selous. Also in abundance are the copper-colored Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, and the massive Livingstone’s eland grow to incredible size with stark black ruffs that accent their long deeply-ridged horns. Solid-bossed Cape buffalo provide the intrepid hunter with a truly adventurous hunt. These wizened warriors of the bush deserve respect. Hunting buffalo in this way is real hunting and requires the hunter to have a good level of fitness and the grit to get the job done. Crocodile are abundant in the large rivers and isolated pools, providing a thrilling hunt for the hunter who is strategically-minded and patient enough to wait for the big one. These prehistoric lizards are often underestimated as a trophy animal but can give the hunter one of the most interesting and difficult hunts in Africa. The hunter needs to be prepared for accurate shooting and must maintain the same level of patience as with leopard. The same can be said for Hippo which can be combined with crocodile for an exciting aquatic hunt. Other species not to be overlooked are Common waterbuck, Johnstone’s impala, Greater kudu, bushpig, warthog, Grey duiker, Red duiker, Sharpe’s grysbok, Chobe bushbuck, Common reedbuck, and Olive baboon.

AUTHENTIC
Safari camps
Our main camps lie on the Rovuma and Lugenda rivers and are built of brick and stone with thatched roofs. They are comprised of luxury chalets with en-suite bathrooms, tasteful furnishings that hearken to the golden days of safari living, a main dining and lounge area and a sundowner-campfire area with stunning views of the panoramic landscapes. Due to the vast size of our safari areas, Fly Camps are erected seasonally in specific areas when ready access to remote parts of the reserve are required for a few days. Our fly camps are basic and have a minimal ecological impact but are fully staffed and fitted with all one needs for a comfortable stay. These camps are often erected for use on a safari when a specific animal is targeted or a particular corner of the reserve needs to be explored for trophy potential. Like safaris of yester-year, this option lends itself to the adventure that few hunting areas in modern African can provide.

Philosophy
At Huntersinc.com, we believe in traditional, ethical hunting, or as we like to say—real hunting for real hunters. While all of us appreciate the magnificence of a wide-spread buffalo, or the exceptional curl of an eland’s horns, our primary focus is on age and character. A true trophy is one that is hard-won, earned with blood, sweat and tears, and is appreciated for the experience it took to achieve it. We focus our hunting on mature cats, heavy-horned antelope and hard-bossed buffalo which make the greatest of trophies. These are the true warriors of the bush who have lived long and productive lives, having passed on their genes to future generations of their kind. We trust that as a true hunter, you too understand and appreciate our philosophy.

HUNTING SEASON
July 15 - November 30 Due to heavy seasonal rains early in the year, the hunting season in Niassa runs from July 15 – November 30. This gives the bush time to dry out and the controlled burning of tall elephant grass to take place, making it ideal for hunters to access all sections of the hunting area in pursuit of their quarry with the greatest levels of success.

Travel access Air Charter is the standard method of travel to our Niassa hunting blocks: • •
Clients can fly commercially to Maputo, and then via LAM Airlines to Pemba. Fixed-wing charter flights are then taken from Pemba to the hunting area at a cost of $3,000 each way (C206) depending on availability.

CLIMATE
Health & Fitness The Niassa hunting area has a sub-tropical climate and is generally warm all year, with cool evenings and hot days during our dry hunting season (August – November). Average temperatures during this time range from 60° to 95° F (15° – 35° C). The rainy season broadly coincides with the heat and humidity of the hot months, between November–March. Mozambique is a malaria area and clients should take the necessary precautions. We suggest Malarone tablets, but advise clients to consult with their personal physician. Your professional hunter carries a first aid kit and sophisticated medical services are available in the larger Mozambique towns and cities. Tsetse flies inhabit many parts of our hunting area, so please come prepared with insect repellant that is effective against this biting denizen of the African bush (Sawyer’s Picaridin or Avon Skin-So-Soft). We highly recommend that clients wear long trousers and long-sleeve shirts during their hunt. Our hunting area is vast and unspoiled, which also means that our hunting is not for the unfit. It is very important to come physically prepared to walk upwards of 10 km per day when tracking buffalo or eland in order to expect a reasonable level of success. Please train for this type of hunting in the months leading up to your safari so that you arrive in a good level of physical fitness.

WEAPONS
& Ammunition
For large dangerous game (buffalo, lion, hippo) the minimum required caliber for use in Mozambique is the .375 H&H. The .375 H&H is the only suitable option for a one-rifle battery as it can be used with excellent results for both dangerous game and plains game alike. For the client who prefers two rifles, we recommend that a plains game rifle should be anything from 7mm upwards, but preferably any of the .300 or .338 calibers. Dangerous game rifles should be a minimum of .375 H&H, but anything .400 and upwards is preferable for buffalo and hippo, so long as the client is comfortable and can shoot accurately with it. Bow-hunting is allowed in Mozambique for nondangerous game. Bookings are made with Huntersinc.com LLC per the following: • A safari is confirmed with a 60% deposit on the total daily rate • The balance of 40% is due ninety (90) days prior to the safari • Trophy fees may be prepaid in full, or are payable at the conclusion of the safari prior to the client leaving camp, with primary species trophy fees due thirty (30) days prior to the commencement of the safari • Govt. license fees (as part of the total trophy fees) are non-refundable
Cancellation Policy: • Cancellations prior to six months (180 days) from the start of the safari are 90% refundable with a 10% handling fee being retained • Cancellations within six months (180 days) from the start of the safari are non-refundable • Alternatively, a hunt may be postponed and re-booked for a later date in the same year or the next, subject to availability and potential price increases

MOZAMBIQUE TRAVEL
& General information
Immigration is operative at your port of entry in Mozambique. You must have a passport, valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond your intended departure from Mozambique and have a minimum of two (2) blank pages in your passport. All non-Mozambique citizens MUST have a visa. Needed for Mozambique: • •
