Hunterdon Holiday Parade - Code of Conduct for Participants

Sponsored by the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce

The Hunterdon Holiday Parade is a cherished community event that celebrates the holiday season, fosters unity, and showcases the vibrant spirit of Hunterdon County. To ensure a safe, enjoyable, and respectful environment for all, we ask that all participants adhere to the following Code of Conduct.

THERE IS TO BE NO DISTRIBUTION OF ITEMS OF ANY KIND BY PARADE PARTICIPANTS WHETHER MARCHING OR PARTICIPATING ON A FLOAT

General Expectations

1. Respect and Inclusivity: All participants are expected to treat others with kindness, respect, and consideration. Discriminatory or offensive behavior, language, or displays will not be tolerated.

2. Safety First: Safety is a priority for everyone involved. Participants must follow all instructions provided by parade staff and volunteers and avoid any actions that may endanger themselves, other participants, or spectators.

3. Alcohol and Substance Policy: The use or possession of alcohol or illegal substances is strictly prohibited for all parade participants before and during the event.

4. Timeliness: All participants must arrive on time, as outlined in their parade instructions. Timely assembly ensures the smooth and organized procession of the event.

5. Supervision of Minors: All children under 18 must always be supervised by an adult. Groups or floats with minors should designate chaperones to ensure their safety and behavior.

Floats and Vehicles

1. Driver Requirements: All vehicles must be operated by a licensed, insured driver aged 21 or older. Drivers must always remain with their vehicles

2. Float Safety: Floats must be constructed securely, with all decorations fastened to withstand movement. Participants should remain safely within designated areas on the float and avoid leaning over edges. THERE IS NO THROWING OR HANDING OUT OF ANY MATERIAL FROM ANY FLOAT OR WALKING PARTICIPANT DURING THE PARADE.

3. Speed and Spacing: Vehicles and floats should maintain a safe, consistent pace of 3-5 mph. All entries must keep an appropriate distance from the entry in front of them to prevent any sudden stops or collisions.

4. Environmental Responsibility: Participants must avoid littering along the parade route. All float decorations should be secured to prevent loose materials from falling off.

Marchers and Performers

1. Appropriate Attire: Marchers should wear family-friendly attire suitable for a festive, family-centered event. Costumes, uniforms, and props should be tasteful and avoid any potentially offensive themes. THERE IS ONLY ONE SANTA AND MRS. CLAUS ALLOWED IN THE PARADE PROVIDED BY THE HUNTERDON COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

2. Maintaining Pace: Marchers and performers must maintain a steady pace with the parade flow and avoid creating gaps. Choreographed performances should be brief (no longer than 30 seconds) and should not obstruct the movement of the parade.

3. Interaction with Spectators: Interaction with spectators, such as waving, is encouraged. However, physical contact and handing out of items is prohibited to maintain a safe environment.

4. Noise Levels: Noise levels, such as music, should be kept at a reasonable volume to avoid overwhelming other participants and to maintain an enjoyable experience for all.

Animals in the Parade

1. Animal Safety and Control: Animals must always be under the control of a handler. All animals should be comfortable with large crowds, loud noises, and other animals.

2. Waste Disposal: Handlers are responsible for the immediate cleanup of any waste produced by their animals during the event. Failure to do so may result in penalties or exclusion from future parades.

3. Health and Welfare: Ensure that any animals participating are healthy, well-fed, hydrated, and dressed appropriately for the weather.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Violations of this Code of Conduct, including disorderly behavior, unsafe practices, and failure to follow parade staff instructions, will result in immediate removal from the parade and ineligibility from future events.

Acknowledgment

All participants, including float operators, marchers, and animal handlers, must acknowledge and agree to this Code of Conduct of the Hunterdon Holiday Parade. A signed agreement is required to participate.
