Editor’s Letter

Like many pre-teens and tweens of the ‘90s, I was a Gap Girl. A good 80% of my wardrobe was Gap Kids: My mother used to take me there twice a year to replenish my wearables, trips that carried nearly the same excitement as going to Disneyland. My mom loved the brand because of the quality and customer care (I remember once returning a pair of overalls a year later because of a malfunctioning clasp with zero hassle). I loved Gap for the trend-forward styles and bright colors — think teal denim paired with floral long-sleeved tops; GAP logo sweatshirts; pink ribbed tanks and carpenter jeans. And I can still recall the scent of their perfumes, too: Grass, Heaven, Dream, Om. (What happened to those? So good!) Some 20 years later, I now find myself evolving into a Gap Mom. I’m buying Gap clothes constantly for my small daughter (which she seems to outgrow by the hour — fun). And now, Gap is partnering with Walmart on Gap Home to make timeless, modern home design accessible to everyone. With their Gap Home Kids collection, they’re encouraging families to design spaces filled with play and imagination — and it’s a partnership that I believe can have a true impact on the next generation of Gap Kids. In these pages, we invite you to bookmark some inspiration — for your rooms, but also for your kids’ playdates and free time.

Your kid hears the word “playdate” and immediately thinks, woo hoo! You, on the other hand, might think, babysitting someone else’s kids. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t get in on the fun yourself. Try these ideas for refreshing your basic playdate. 6 Tips PlaydatesCreativefor Playdate6

Creating twisty paths for toppling dominoes is still a thrilling activity — even in 2022. Challenge kiddos to create a sequence that takes up an entire room. If your playdate is between mealtimes, try setting up a station where the kids can make their own snack bag — which can also be an opportunity to sneak in some healthier choices like dried fruit, clementines, and popcorn.

Let’s be real — sometimes you just need some TV time. Turn it into more of an experience by making “tickets” to the show and ripping off the ends as the kids walk into your “movie theater.” Offer up individual bags of popcorn, dim the lights, and let the show begin!

Take a walk with your kiddo and their friend(s) to collect items like flowers, grasses, stones, and leaves. Using glue, they can then create selfportraits using their materials — a leaf can become a mouth, grasses can become hair, etc.

7 6 Tips for Creative Playdates

Create a craft setup with toilet paper rolls, paint, construction paper, and craft additions like beads and pompoms, and ask kids to create an animal, using the roll as the base of the animal’s body. Bonus points if the animal is the child’s own invention!

It’s not as complicated as it sounds! For lunchtime, try making pita pizzas — give each child their own pita, spread some tomato sauce as a base, and let them pick out their own toppings. Pop the pizzas in the oven on a foil-lined baking tray at 350 degrees until the cheese is melted.

Make this the summer in which the words “I’m bored!” are retired. With color from Gap Home’s collection exclusively at Walmart and creativity from designer Becki Owens, you can transform any kids’ room into a launch pad for play. “At our house we usually pick a color they love and build from there,” says Owens. In this case, we chose all of them — with a clean backdrop to let the colors pop. “We wanted to definitely add color, but then also add some neutrals and texture,” she adds. The result? A space that sparks the imagination.

Rainbow-themed rugs offer a comfy surface for Lego creations (“I love the prints and the rugs,” Owens says), while cheerful pom-pom pillows and knit throw blankets act as an invitation for storytime. Add a designated craft area with mega rolls of paper and cubbies stocked with supplies (oh, the possibilities), and all that’s left to do is curl the successfully “I feel like it’s so fun,” says Owens of the full effect. This cozy kids’ room makes it a reality with the Gap Home Kids collection exclusively at Walmart, with a classic blue palette setting the stage for playful dashes of color. Grab a pencil and piece of paper for every person in your group (you need at least three people).

The next person will attempt to guess what the original sentence was based on the drawing. They will write what they think the sentence was down beneath the drawing, fold over the drawing so it’s hidden, and pass the paper to the left. The next person will attempt to draw the new sentence, fold over the paper so the sentence is hidden, and pass their drawing to the left. Repeat the process until everyone gets their original piece of paper back. Sit in a circle with your friends.

Have each person secretly write a sentence at the top of their paper. It can be about something you’ve done during your Eachplaydate.writerwill then pass the paper to the person on their left. This person will then attempt to draw a picture of the sentence that was written (make sure to leave plenty of space on the paper when doing this). Then, have this person fold over the original sentence so it’s hidden — you only want the drawing showing. Pass the paper to the left.
