Dates and Deadlines to Remember: • March 23 - Fall and Summer 2018 Schedule of Classes Available online: http://pine.humboldt.edu/registrar/ClassSchedules.html • March 26 – Mandatory Advising Begins – Your registration will be BLOCKED until you meet with your advisor. All continuing students must meet with their academic advisor (listed in their Student Center under Advisor) before they register, to talk about their academic progress and educational goals, and to discuss course schedule plans for at least the next three semesters.

• April 9-20 - Fall and Summer 2018 Early Registration.

• May 7-11 - SPRING 2018 FINAL EXAMS WEEK. • Registration limited to 17 units until Saturday, June 30, at 12:00am, when it will increase to 19 units.

Update Your DARS Degree Planner Every Semester: You will soon be meeting with your advisor to talk about your academic plan and have your registration hold lifted. Before meeting with your advisor, review and update your DARS Degree Planner.

All undergraduate students are required to plan at least 3 semesters ahead (Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Fall 2019). Graduating seniors should plan through their final semester.

There have been many updates to the course catalog in the last few weeks: new courses, suspended/inactive courses, changes to prerequisites and course numbers, units, and course availability. Be sure to address any new red flags in your plan.

Why do some planned courses say “SUSPENDED” or “INACTIVE” in the course title?

These courses may no longer be offered at HSU. Any inactive courses will be displayed at the top of your audit (left column) in the DARS Degree Planner with a warning. Check your DARS to find courses you can take instead and update your plan. Discuss any changes with your advisor.

GE Area E for New Transfer Students Fall 2018: • Transfer students should complete GE Area E at HSU by taking one of the 400 level classes listed below. These classes are appropriate for juniors and seniors.

• These 400 level classes will only be offered through Fall 2020. Plan to take one before then to satisfy GE Area E. • Students may also satisfy GE Area E with courses from a community college.

GE Area E For New Freshmen, Starting Fall 2018: • Courses are now lower-division for students who begin college Fall 2018 or later.

• These courses focus on helping freshman understand the academic rigors of their major, and help them in transitioning to college life.

• Freshmen are encouraged to complete these courses within their first year at HSU. • Students will be advised about the appropriate Area E course when they complete their online registration tutorial.

• Most courses will be restricted to incoming Freshmen for Fall 2018.

CHEM 328: is for majors in biological sciences. This course has been re-numbered

to CHEM 228. It still counts as a prerequisite for the biochemistry courses and will be seamless at the DARs level for students that already took 328.

CHEM 321: This course has been split and renumbered to CHEM 324 Lecture (3

units, 3 hours) and CHEM 324L Lab (2 units, 6 hours). Students must

enroll in both courses the first time they take either course. If they do not pass

either course, they only need to retake the one they did not pass. Offered

every semester.

CHEM 322: This course has been split and renumbered to CHEM 325 Lecture

(3 units, 3 hours) and CHEM 325L Lab (2 units, 6 hours). Students must

enroll in both courses the first time they take either course. If they do not pass

CHEM 431: This course has been split and renumbered to CHEM 434 Lecture

PHYX 110 has been renumbered to PHYX 211 and has been renamed General

Physics C. For GEOL and OCN this is no longer a requirement. Prerequisite

of MATH 210. Offered every semester.

PHYX 111 has been renumbered to PHYX 210 and has been renamed General

Physics B. Prerequisite of MATH 110. Offered every semester.

The new PHYX sequence is PHYX 109 > 210 > 211.

You can see how their community college course will transfer to a CSU or UC. *NEW* HSU Transfer Credit - check out this site for details on transfer credit considerations (quarter units, “HSU residency� requirements, community college limits and more).

Other Information: Associate Degrees for Transfer: Check DARS for transfer degree status. If complete and verified, you are guaranteed by law (SB 1440) to graduate in 60 units or less. Be sure to check with your advisor to make sure you are on track.

Advisor / Advisee Relationship: Student Responsibilities: • Attend all advising appointments and maintain contact with your advisor each semester. If you are unable to attend a meeting, notify your advisor 24 hours in advance.

• Clarify personal values and your academic and career goals with your advisor.

• Come prepared to each appointment with questions and/or material for discussion.

• Create and/or update your three-semester DARS degree plan each semester.

• Gather all relevant decision-making information.

• Ask questions if you do not understand an issue or have a specific concern.

• Complete all “to dos” or recommendations from your advisor.

• Accept responsibility for your decisions.

• Become knowledgeable about college policies, procedures, and deadlines like CR/NC, add/drop, etc.

• Check your email, and myHumboldt portal on a frequent basis for updates and notifications about topics important to you.

• Check your to-do list and registration date and time on your student center prior to registering.

• Register on time for the greatest selection of classes.

• Make timely progress towards your degree.

• Utilize relevant support services.
