BUNZ: Edmond Michael Nov. 1, 1928 - June 29, 2015 Mr. Edmond Michael Bunz of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, passed away at Humboldt District Hospital on Monday, June 29, 2015. He was 86 years of age. Edmond, one of eight children, was born on November 1, 1928, to Adam and Bertha (nee Jung) Bunz at home on their far m 14 miles southeast of Humboldt in the Muenster district. Following his education at St. Gertrude School, he worked on the family farm. For several years, during the winter months, Edmond was employed at various bush camps in northern Ontario until the winter of 1951-1952. In the fall of 1953, he bought a half-section of land north of Lintlaw. On July 12, 1955, Edmond married Viola Mohaw. Their union was blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter. In 1959, Ed, Viola and their first two children moved to Hinton, AB, where Ed worked for the Northwestern Pulp and Paper Co. During that time, two more children were born to them, thus completing their family. In 1977, after 17 and a half years at Hinton, Ed, Viola and their two youngest children came to Humboldt to reside. Ed was employed as a custodian at Humboldt Collegiate. Sadly, on October 13, 1978, Viola passed away. In his leisure time over the years, Ed loved fishing, and building birdhouses and replica homestead houses. More than anything, Ed’s life revolved around his precious family; he was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In 1989, Ed met Rose Schlekewy and in October 1990, she moved to Humboldt. They became good friends who enjoyed each other’s company and shared a love of dancing, quilting, gardening, playing cards and going on many trips to Rose’s farm at St. Walburg. “Ed was a loving partner, step-father, and step-grandfather, the best we could have had. Due to failing health over the years, on February 12, 2014, Ed became a resident of the Villa, his home until the present. Ed is survived by his partner, Rose Schlekewy, Humboldt, SK; his four children: Terry Bunz(Mary-Anne Bleich), Port Coquitlam, BC, Kevin Bunz, North Battleford, SK, Cheryl Wegleitner, Humboldt, SK, and Mark(Kim) Bunz, Salmon Arm, BC; his grandchildren: Marvin, Morgan, Matthew, Chris, Justin, Shawna, Tyler and Dayna; his great-grandchildren: Parker and Sophia; Rose’s children: Rosemarie(Cliff), Lloydminster, SK, Joanne(Ron), St. Walburg, SK, Maddy, Humboldt, SK, Dorothy, St. Walburg, SK, Shirley(Nor m), Lloydminster, SK, Jim, Donna(Clinton), and John(Sandra), all of St. Walburg, SK, and Gerry(Herb), Bruno, SK; her grandchildren: Chad, Dean(Jill), Corine(Darren), Kelsi, Jodi, Raya, Calla, and Alana; her great-grandchildren: Lawson and Frankie Rose; Ed’s two brothers: Otto Bunz of Humboldt, SK, and Carl Bunz of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK. He was predeceased by his wife, Viola (nee Mohaw) Bunz (October 13, 1978); daughter-in-law, Doris (nee Rauert) Bunz; parents, Adam and Bertha (nee Jung) Bunz; five brothers: Johannes Bunz, Henry Bunz, Raymond Bunz, Norbert Bunz, and Walter Bunz; and by step-son Robert. The Funeral Mass was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. Others taking part were: Chris Bunz, crossbearer; Alana Giesbrecht, urnbearer; Donna Gory and Kevin Bunz, scripture readers; Rosemarie Schlekewy, intentions; Jodi and Kelsi Schlekewy, and Raya and Calla Giesbrecht, giftbearers; Shawna Ramsay and Dayna Bunz, special music; and Val Kuemper, memorial table attendant. Honorary pallbearers were Ed’s grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to either Muscular Dystrophy Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
