PCP’s: A proactive approach to prevent or identify health problems

What does a PCP do?

A primary care provider (PCP) is a doctor, physician assistant or nurse practitioner who serves as your main health care provider for non-emergency needs, routine screenings and wellness visits. Your doctor may be a doctor of medicine (M.D.) or a doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.). Both are licensed physicians, though they receive slightly different training.

Advanced practice providers, such as nurse practitioners (NP) and physician assistants (PA), can also serve as primary care providers and are trained in diagnosing and treating medical issues.

Why do you need a PCP? It is a good idea to have an established primary care provider before you experience health issues. That way, if you notice unusual symptoms, you have someone who knows your medical history and can provide treatment or make a referral to a specialist.

However, if you don’t currently have a primary care provider and have a non-emergency medical issue, it is best to go to urgent care. Many urgent care centers can refer you to a primary care provider for follow-up care.

Provide preventive care.

Your PCP can guide you in adopting healthy lifestyle changes – such as diet, exercise, sleep, stress management and smoking cessation – that improve your overall health. He or she can also provide your annual physical and recommend age-appropriate screenings, such as a colonoscopy or mammogram.

Dr. Hoffert & Red Maple Dental Team Perform Complex Full-Mouth Restorations Dr. Hoffert and her team provide patients with true fullmouth restorations. They perform complex dental implants and related procedures using the highest quality tools and restorations. They can handle anything from a routine single dental implant and restoration up to surgical removal of all dentition, bone reductions, bone grafts, ridge splits and sinus grafting as required for a full-arch restoration. Their patients have access to many levels of anxiety control and anesthesia.

From basic numbing agents all the way up to propofol IV sedation administered by a certified anesthesiologist for patients with complicated medical conditions.

The Process Dr. Hoffert uses a “restoration driven” process. She begins with the final result in mind and works back to the beginning. She’ll place the implant where it best holds the restoration, even if that isn’t the easiest place to put it. She takes a CT scan of her patients to generate a highly accurate 3D map of their entire mouth before she extracts existing teeth. Software allows her to “try in” different implants and restorations digitally to find the combination that generates the best result for the patient.

The implant needs to have enough bone around it to be strong, and the restoration needs to be ready to handle the heavy loads the patient will place on it. Using this digital technology ensures there is no guessing or figuring it out on the fly.

When it is time to place the implants, Dr. Hoffert uses a 3D printed guide when possible to make sure the implant goes in at precisely the right angle and depth. To avoid delays in this process, Red Maple has all equipment needed to plan, model, and 3D print implant guides on site.

Dr. Hoffert decides when the implant is ready to be loaded with the final restoration; that could be on the same day or a time in the near future. She finishes the case by installing either a crown milled and fired in the office, or a custom prosthesis produced in partnership with outstanding local labs; she will not use an overseas lab or discount supplier.

Dental Implant Consultation A consultation with a dentist is required to determine if a patient is eligible for one or more dental implants. Implants require a person with good oral health and enough healthy bone structure to support them.
