Our Mission

Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center's mission is to unlock creativity through exceptional visual arts education and to enhance this endeavor through preservation of the historic Kaluanui Estate.

Hui No‘eau is a nonprofit, communitybased visual arts education organization located on the grounds of the historic Kaluanui Estate in Makawao, Maui, Hawai'i

Founded in 1934 and designated a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 1967, Hui No‘eau is the primary art center in Maui County that serves all ages through hands-on visual arts education programs in painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, jewelry, metalsmithing, and Hawaiian cultural art forms The Hui presents unique fine-art exhibitions, delivers outreach programs for underserved youth, offers free community arts events, and much more. Each year, the Hui’s visual arts education resources support the creative growth and well-being of of more than 20,000 people, including more than 6,000 children across Maui County.

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank each and every one of you for another inspiring year of community visual arts education at our beloved Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center.

The Hui’s talented and passionate teaching artists, exhibiting artists, students, educators, partner organizations, and schools; generous donors, supporters, grantors, and volunteers made it possible for us to serve more than 20,000 individuals in 2022-23, including more than 6,000 Maui County keiki.

The past several years have taught us about resilience We have seen the positive impact of the arts on mental health and overall well-being. The arts have the ability to transform, to bring people together, and to create beauty in uncertainty.

While our hearts are heavy with the recent wildfires on Maui, we remain committed to our mission and to our community’s journey towards healing and recovery. The arts will be more critical than ever before.

The Hui strives to be an inclusive and inspiring place for all to create, share, and prevail together.

Youth Outreach

• Expanded youth outreach programs, including its Na Keiki No`eau outreach program, which now serves 470+keiki in weekly afterschool art lessons taught by Hui teaching Artists at 5 ElementarySchools:Makawao, Pā’ia, Pukalani, Kahului, & Wailuku.

• Continued to reach keiki on Lāna’i & in Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource (KHAKO) Centers in Wailuku and Lahaina with 1,150 Art2Go artkitdistributions.Teaching Artists offered 3in-person artslessonsonLāna'iandatKHAKO. The Hui is
