SWOT Analysis Strengths

Weakness (Areas for improvement)

Taking initiative & being responsible – There are times where I may not deliver. However, if the task had been given to me by other people, I feel compelled to ensure that I’m a reliable source of trust for them and delivering what I naturally would hope from others if I’m in their situation as well. Hence, treating others how I want to be treated.

Perfectionist till a flaw – Often a double edge sword, my perfectionism either land me in amazing places like competitions and awards or dark places like self-loathing, depression etc. It hasn’t been easy and learning to just let go honestly, it’s easier said than done and I need to approach things from a different angle and perspective to get things done instead.

Jack of all traits – Drawing since young (traditional & digital), An eye for what’s aesthetically pleasing, Presentation, Project Management, Research Ideation Machine – Many had shared that I have creative ideas/proposals that are interesting, unique, and original. I heavily believe that’s due to my character as an individual and the different way I see things that may be useful in some circumstances and terrible in others.

Indecisive – Stemming from my own insecurities, often I would consider if the option I’m giving “not good enough?”.

Stopping me from being decisive and taking a step forward I will then become… (below) Easily Overwhelm & Anxious – Stemming from my fears, I would then paralyze with negative thoughts and unable to do anything which often leads me to a position that I choose to give up instead the submitting an incomplete work

(Bonus) A Decent level of Interior Design/Architecture related skillsets – isometric diagram, spatial planning, 3D renderings

(Bonus) Others that I could think of – poor time management, emotional, poor organizational skills

Honestly, idk what I can do for myself to help me get to my goals. For the longest time I just remember struggling with this weakness and flaws I have and no matter what I do, I just can’t seem to get rid of it.

Honestly with the Development of AI and how much faster they can learn compared to humans. AI is going to drastically not just change how we work but may even put us jobless as well if we aren’t prepared for it. Yet we are only young adults still figuring out things and it doesn’t make things any easier.

Maybe, because I was trying to get rid of it out of spite than embracing it out of acceptance. Or maybe because I was listening to everyone’s so called “wise advice” when the truth of the matter is that I’m very different from them.

That I failed to understand what works for them doesn’t mean it would for me. Or could even just be I didn’t try hard enough I wonder.

However, maybe it’s exactly because I was trying too hard that I missed the bigger picture. I recently heard a saying…

“Diamond is formed under pressure. And bread dough rises when you let it rest. We’re all our own things. What’s motivating you may be crippling to others.

And there’s an old saying that says “the same boiling water that softens the potato will harden the egg.”

I believe I need to rest, give my time to reflect, try out things without judgement, embrace the process regardless the good or bad and learn more about myself on this journey not just my personal development but also my creative dreams.

But in every crisis, there is an opportunity AI have also help me in numerous ways but I’m still very much skeptical on it and am not over-relying to the extent where we aren’t designers without it.

Additionally, with the resource available in making design much easier such as tools like Canva, I’m not sure if it’s for the good or bad. Tools like Canva can create quality work even without the complicated knowledge that goes to executing the ideas on adobe for example. With that everyone can become a designer and if so, there might not be a need for us anyway. It’s only a matter of time that there would be resources enabling non-designers to produce high-quality work without the need for designers themselves. That’s my speculation.

SMART Goals GOAL 1 Specific What do I want to improve on?

Aside from improving on my technical skillsets such as Architectural rendering, I would also like to develop my design senses such as composition, colors, graphic design. Skills that can be learn from Youtube, etc.

Measurable How will I be able to measure my improvement?

Practice, practice, practice. Turning it into some form of routine. Focus on Quality then quantity if I want to improve and I should measure my improvement not by the quality but by doing something new and that is good enough because the truth is nobody start out perfect and that is natural.

Achievable What are the steps to achieving this goal?

First, would be a shift in mindset or at least a guideline for me to take note and constantly remind myself not just my goals but also who I want to be and with that as the baseline you will start thinking of the characteristic you want to become which would help you get closer to your goal too. (something I learn from Youtube) The steps to achieve my goal would be to start small and make the process enjoyable. Only with that it can be a routine. (After reading a book and understanding the importance of the compound effect) Just making it a habit to learn every opportunity I get and perhaps not treating it as such a serious thing make starting easier as well.

Relevant What are the resources needed?

Effort & Dedication from my end. Laptop where I can access these resources and some books along the way are good enough for now.

Time-bound When do I hope to achieve it?

I hope to continue hone my strengths and improve on my weakness by the time I graduate.

Hopefully by then, I would also have matured a lot by then.

Focusing on my weakness, I believe in this section I would like to work on my fears and insecurities breeding all this doubt, indecisiveness, over-controlling and anxious behaviors

Measurable How will I be able to measure my improvement?

Achievable What are the steps to achieving this goal?

When I’m able to be at peace despite my circumstances. That would be a good indicator of the state I’m in and my progress in achieving the goal.

Relevant What are the resources needed?

Lots of inner work such as letting go, patience, compassion to self, mindfulness, acceptance and ultimately courage to confront my fears.

Time-bound When do I hope to achieve it?

I don’t think it would completely go away, but what works would be to not let my weakness compromise my performance and I believe that would be possible to work towards by Graduation

Constantly reflecting on my experience and identifying my habit patterns that make me spiral downwards. Creating a Journal has been helpful and updating it when there are certain events that make me question or feel my flaws again. Writing down what I did to solve the problem, or the upturn is good as well to help me identify what works for me.

As an aspiring designer in pursuit of crafting beautiful and liberating masterpieces, I believe design is expressive, exhilarating, and life changing. Design should be an interpretation of one's belief and what one imagines the world can be. Those meaningful experiences and connections are what make life worth living. Therefore, I aim to redefine those experiences; and connections to elevate new heights within the realm of interior design.

Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts has equipped me with interdisciplinary knowledge and exposure in various fields, such as Graphic Design, during my studies. Additionally, I have done two freelance projects in designing a brand logo and packaging for my friends, and I truly enjoyed it. Given the opportunity, I would gladly do graphic design-related work again. With my unique set of enthusiasm, thirst for knowledge, and presentation skills, I believe I will not disappoint and be able to deliver a performance best capable of my standards.

Despite being a small architect firm, the boss previously works at a reputable architect firm and I have immense respect for him. He was also my external assessor during my final year project and that’s when he offers an opportunity to work full time for him. However, considering that I plan on furthering my studies I had put that offer on a hold.

Previously offered the opportunity to work full time at TA.LE I managed to negotiate an internship offer with TA.LE instead. The position is still open for me and am tempted to go for it considering it has been sorted out.

Collectible toys have been all the rage recently, I collect some myself and thought would be cool to learn 3D from a fun area of focus and using my strength in generating original and fun ideas I may prove useful as well.

As mentioned earlier I like to look for someone who I can truly learn from and picking a company with a lecturer I know may prove beneficial and an opportunity for me to learn more about product design as well which is my domain.

This was the company my group had pick for the 2nd Assignment and looking at Moom, they are an innovative wellness startup that I reasonate with and discover so many points that could be improve with design and if given the opportunity I like to elevate this Singapore startup to empower more women in the process.

With this I may not be able to learn anything much on design itself so we will see.
