Greetings!

Timeline of COVID-19 Cases at HUHS

It is with great Oriole Pride that we celebrate the arrival of summer, a time when we reflect on our journey and continue the work to shape the future of Hartford Union High School. I am so grateful to our families, students, and staff who have navigated these unprecedented times, and am excited for the days and months ahead! As we move into July and August, the final pieces of our Phase II Master Facilities improvements are underway in our library and cafeteria spaces. We look forward to fall when each of the areas becomes a more flexible environment and improves our student experience on campus.

A team STAFF STAFF of interested staff and community members have been, and will be meeting throughout the summer to review some of these plans, our needs, and possible next steps or recommendations for our district to consider. If you are interested in joining these conversations, please contact me directly or check our website or social media for future opportunities. Please mark your calendar for a fundraising kickoff event on August 20, 2021! Finally, congratulations to the Class of 2021, you will do great things if you “build wisely”! HUHS Board of Education

Wishing everyone a healthy and happy summer with family and friends! Mr. Jeffrey A. Walters Superintendent jeff.walters@huhs.org

“Hayley is one of the most resilient people I know. She was having issues with technology, with her computer failing multiple times while doing some complicated coding for a modeling project. She “Izzy is a diligent and conscientious student, and she puts 110% into everything she does. She greets me every day with a smile, and would get to the end of her coding, attempt to save her work, and have her computer crash. On her 11th attempt, it finally saved the is always excited for the day. She is also very involved in Student Council, and has worked tirelessly to make Student Council relevant file. Hayley is an excellent example for everyone to stick with it and keep trying!” - Mark Arnholt in a year where many events were canceled.” - Sheila Parker

“I have met and have had the pleasure to work with the most caring, hard working teachers, staff, and administrators. I will miss all of you.”

“I have enjoyed my years at HUHS. I met many great people and I have worked for an even better department. I will miss my co-workers and interacting with the students on a daily basis.”

“I have been blessed to work alongside department colleagues who are the BEST – supportive both personally and professionally. I know that no matter what, these awesome people will have my back. Therefore, it is not a goodbye from me, but rather an AU REVOIR (until I see you again).”

I have known I wanted to be an art teacher since I was in second grade. In high school, I was an art major which meant I could take double periods of art. I attended Kean University in New Jersey majoring in art education. After I graduated my father who had lived in Wisconsin since I was young, called to tell me that they were looking for an art teacher in Hartford. My response was “Oh Connecticut, how do you know about that?” Future Plans: I will be a Nonna for the first time this summer so I plan on spending as much time as possible with my grandchild. I also want to start doing more of my own art again, not that I ever stopped, but now I will have plenty of time

Future Plans: I have no immediate plans, just to enjoy not having a schedule!

Congratulations

Early years of my teaching career, I was also asked to add a Spanish certification – no small task because I was required to study abroad in Guanajuato, Mexico while I had a husband and two small children and was teaching an overload. With a great deal of encouragement and family support, I added my Spanish certification through Edgewood College. After making the change to teach at HUHS in 2005, I went on to earn my Masters of Education degree from UW-LaCrosse. Future Plans: Spending lots of time with my husband, daughters and grandkids. Also travel, many projects, home renovation, and I am most excited about just having time to devote to my interests.

Congratulations to the 2021 graduates who have earned scholarships. The 2021 seniors have earned more than $800,000 in scholarships for their post high school education.
