Winter Sports Recap

Greetings! It is with great Oriole Pride that I write and celebrate all that we have accomplished together, and with a strong sense of hope, I look forward with excitement to the many events HUHS will host this Spring as we continue to move towards the finish line of this most unprecedented school year. On April 13, 2021, HUHS held their first musical performance since February 2020, and for me, and many of those in attendance, it felt like we had returned, and we thank our fine music staff and young musicians for the opportunity to have music back in our lives. Towards the end of the performance, choir director Mr. Brusubardis shared a message and encouraged all of us to find a way to be superspreaders of peace, joy, confidence, and positivity. Despite the many challenges we have faced in the past 14 months, I am proud of the many great things happening in our district and look forward to the work that lies ahead. Our team is working on an opportunity to celebrate the many improvements made to our campus, and are planning a community celebration and open house for August to show you why we are so excited about how we are transforming our spaces on campus. Thank you for your patience, support, and partnering in the education of our fine young adults that call HUHS home.

Free breakfast and lunch for all students extended through the end of Summer! Virtual students contact monica.glorioso@huhs.org for meal ordering and pickup information or visit our website: https://www.huhs. org/district/food-service. cfm

Holy Hill Area School District

Thank you to our three staff members who stepped-up to fulfill many principal duties this spring after the February resignation of our principal.

Interim Principals of Richfield Middle School

Angie has been part of the Richifield Family since 1998. When starting her teaching career with the district she thought she wouldn’t stay long since she drives from Juneau! Well, 23 years later she is still here and living in Juneau. She truly loves the district, families, students and staff. During her 23 years she has taught every subject. She has been teaching science for the last 8 yrs. or so. She has earned her Masters in Educational Leadership through Concordia University. She also has her masters in Curriculum and Instruction and a teaching license (grades 1-9) with a minor in Environmental Studies. Angie loves the small school feel and how everyone knows each other outside of the classroom and school setting. She grew up in Hartford and is a proud graduate of HUHS (class of 1990)! She is married to her husband Dan and has two sons who attend Hartford Union High School. She loves the Holy Hill Area School district so much that she open-enrolled her sons to attend school as part of the HHASD district.

Angie Hose

Angie loves teaching science and being in the classroom with the students, but she is excited to finish the year out as the Terrific Trio with a variety of principal duties. Angie is serving on a variety of committees throughout the district. She is also helping with our PBIS program as well as discipline. There is a lot that happens at the end of the year and she truly loves jumping in to help where help is needed. She is looking forward to leading the RMS families to a successful end of the year during this pandemic. Lauren has been with the district since 2016, serving as a 4th grade teacher, middle school ELA teacher, and has been an instructional coach for the past 3 years. Lauren has her Masters in Educational Leadership from Cardinal Stritch University as well as a Coaching Certificate from UW Madison. Lauren was drawn to work at Richfield Middle School because of its size and small town feel. She grew up in a small town nearby and appreciates that everyone knows everyone! The relationships she has with the staff and students is second to none. Everyone works together so well as a team!

Lauren Mallow

Lauren is excited to finish out this year as one of the principals at RMS. Lauren has already been busy developing plans for state testing, the master schedule for next year, and many other behind the scenes activities. She also appreciates all of the support the interim principals have received from parents, staff, and students!

Rachel is in her first year at the Holy Hill Area School District. Prior to this year, she was a Literacy Coach for the Oconomowoc Area School District at Nature Hill Intermediate School for 6 years. Before working in OASD, she worked as a reading specialist for Campbellsport Middle and High Schools. Her classroom experience was at Kennedy Middle School in Germantown for seven years. She taught 6, 7 & 8 grade English Language Arts, World Cultures, Reading and American History. She has also taught Education courses to undergraduates at Cardinal Stritch. Before becoming a teacher, she worked for QuadGraphics, Inc. in Hartford as a second pressman for seven years. While working at Quad, she earned her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and a minor in Language Arts. She then attended Cardinal Stritch University to obtain a Masters of Arts in Literacy and Language to become a reading specialist. After serving in that role for a few years, she decided to head back to Cardinal Stritch for her Masters of Science in Educational Leadership,

Rachel Rachel made the move to Holy Hill in the middle of a pandemic because she was drawn to the district’s Quill commitment to all students achieving at high levels. Serving district-wide, Rachel has been immersed in understanding how Holy Hill functions and contributing to moving the district forward. She has enjoyed getting to know the students, staff and parents this year. She looks forward to serving the community for years to come!

Friess Lake Elementary has many exciting events and learning happening! In February we celebrated 100th Day, Valentine’s Day, and Global Play Day. In March we celebrated Read Across America Week with many exciting opportunities.. Elementary students read virtually with middle school students, students dressed like favorite storybook characters, and our library hosted some great contests. Students voted on the best costume for Principal, Jen Shattuck which was the Lorax. Students also participated in a cereal drive to collect cereal for a local food pantry. We collected 302 boxes and hosted a domino run throughout the school with all of the boxes collected. Our students also participated in the Kids Heart Challenge with our school raising over $15,000. Our students who raised the most money, were given the opportunity to select a teacher to slime. This Slime Time event happened on St. Patrick’s Day along with a Virtual Dance party. Our school won the opportunity to participate in a Virtual Dance party with a celebrity host from So You Think You Can Dance.

the school year. Recently the students created Valentine cards for local businesses and collected cereal for the Cereal Drive. This spring students will be supporting our school by completing community service projects in our outdoor classroom. Finally, our Safe and Orderly team has participated in a variety of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) training and professional learning provided by Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS). This professional learning will guide some of our summer professional learning as well as our focus to support behavioral needs. This summer Friess Lake Elementary will be hosting a summer school program for district students. This program will run for two weeks June 21-July 1. We have a variety of classes from an academic focus on reading, writing and math, to enrichment classes such as Cheer & Dance, Legos, Kids in the Kitchen, Nature Explorers, Tae Kwon Do, Sports, Hunter Safety, and more!

Along with all of the fun happening at school we have also continued to make great strides with our building goals. We have implemented a new math curriculum at all grade levels this year. We have Bridges in 4K and Illustrative Mathematics in 5K-4th grade. We have had the opportunity to conduct math learning walks to celebrate our strengths and identify areas as next steps. We have also partnered with the Math Institute of Wisconsin in providing teachers with professional development and coaching around math practices. It’s exciting to see the thinking, collaboration, and incredible problem solving skills our students continue to develop. Friess Lake Elementary has three continuous improvement action teams. These teams meet monthly to collaborate and make progress on our district and building level goals. Recently our Learning & Academic Team has been focused on goals around our Professional Learning Communities and supporting grade level teams with identifying essential standards in literacy and mathematics. This work in identifying essential standards is a part of our RtI At Work implementation. This work supports our goals ensuring that all students can achieve at high levels. Our Communication and Engagement team has planned a variety of community service opportunities throughout

A theme we believe in at Friess Lake Elementary relates to “Being a Rainbow in Someone Else’s Cloud.” -Maya Angelou. Take a peek at all the amazing rainbows you can find in our school Our theme for this month is Focus. Our students are extremely focused on working hard, lifting up others, and being kind!
