Northside Washington School in the late (circa 1890). It burned down in 1923. Southside School, built in 1856, burned to the ground in 1959.

Dear HUHS Parents/Guardians and Citizens, Please accept my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the honor of serving you, the HUHS District, and our community’s assets: your children, our students.

Truly, not a day passed, morning into night, in which I didn’t know and feel how fortunate I was to be here. My time has been a short, three years; yet, they were filled with the embrace of acceptance, friendship, progress, improvement, success, and few bumps along the way.

High schools are important to its students and parents, and they are equally as important to the community. HUHS is more than the Hartford area’s high school of choice. More than the Home of the Orioles. More than the facilities and fields in and upon which we work and play. More than the educational institution which you so generously support. It is you in every way.

HUHS is the community.

Its origin is 1845 with a lone teacher, Gad Root, and his 20+ students. Now, and for 174 years, this high school graduated thousands of students who were able to pursue the many opportunities, stations, jobs, careers, professions, lives, and journeys they sought. More than academic rankings/ratings, championships, and awards, the stories of its students’ lives – lived well and meaningfully – mark the value of HUHS. I am better because I was here. For that, my gratitude is immeasurable.

God bless each of you. God bless each and all of our students. I will miss them the most because they were – and will always be – my purpose.

Dear Host family, Hello, my name is Lennard Gnüchtel and I’m a 16 year old student from Germany. I live with both of my parents, my younger sister, Florentine and my cat, Sammy.

My father works as a hotelier with restaurant included, my mother is a secretary. Both are very nice and hardworking people. I go to 10th grade of a gymnasium. I also learn how to speak Latin and Spanish. I also enjoy history, English and art the most. Once I’m finished with school I want to go to college (preferably in America) and get a job in IT or as a reporter, since I do like to find out more about different topics and I like to work with people.

Angie Hall is a 2003 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education along with a licenses in Health, Coaching, and Adaptive Physical Education.

Angie continued her education by earning her Masters degree from University of Wisconsin La Crosse in Adventure Education.

Angie began teaching at Hartford Union High School as a Physical Education and Health Teacher in 2005. Angie fell in love with the community and moved to Hartford in 2006. Angie primarily teaches Health, Foundations of PE, Lifeguarding, and Specialized PE. She also served as Department Chair for the last 10 years.

Angie is supported by her family, especially her husband, Michael. They have two beautiful children, Hayden (10) and Henry (7). Angie now helps coach her children’s athletic activities as well as volunteer at the Recreation Center.

Angie’s passionate about teaching and loves working with the staff at HUHS. Angie is very honored to be selected as the educator of the year for 2018-2019 school year.

Working with my colleagues at HUHS has been wonderful, and I leave behind so many dear friends who are outstanding educators.

Their dedication to quality instruction inspires me every day.

In my retirement, I plan to spend time with my Sue Algiers - Spanish husband, Tim and our three children, TJ, Olivia and Nick. I plan to continue my personal “Risk game� because travel, especially student travel, is my passion. I want to humbly thank all my friends on staff- teaching, support, food service, custodial, technology- for a wonderful 16-plus years. It has been a pleasure to work through thick and thin with such a fine group of people.

past 29 years at HUHS, what stands out most is the lifelong friends I have made and the dedicated staff I have been fortunate to work alongside. I cannot believe how fast the time has gone by; it seems like just yesterday this journey began. Though it is bittersweet to know these Peggy Lonergan are my last days at HUHS, I look forward to spending time Paraprofessional camping and doing all those projects that I have put off until I retire; that time is now. Retirement will also allow me the time to watch my grandkids participate in all of their varied activities more often. I will always cherish the time I have spent at Hartford High. Thank you to all!

Another career that interests me is Marine Biology.

Associate School: St. Kilian Favorite Class: Biology Favorite thing about HUHS: There are so many different classes that you can take here and I think that is so amazing. The teachers here are also very nice and I feel like I can ask any of them for help on anything.

Activities: This year I was on the swimming team, I was part of the Student Council, I am in Band and enjoyed participating in Pep Band, I was stage crew for the musical, and I am on the Tennis team.

Future Plans: Something in science or law and to continue being active through running.

Associate School: St. Kilian Favorite Class: I really love all the classes that I take and enjoy gaining knowledge from each of them, but here are some of the highlights. In English I enjoy being able to read current and past literature and try to understand the author’s point of view and apply it to today. I also have enjoyed taking welding this year and learning a completely new skill as well as being able to sing in choir as I have always wanted to. AP Government and Politics I thoroughly enjoyed and it helped me to better understand the workings of the government.

Favorite thing about HUHS: The range of activities that I can participate in from different sports to clubs and feeling a part of HUHS. Activities at HUHS: Musical, Cross Country, Ski team, Student Council, Choir, Track, and H-Club.

Even though Kolton was the youngest student in the class, he formed strong relationships with his classmates and provided valuable contributions to the class discussions. Hartford Union High School’s second annual Day of Service put 1,300 students and 200 staff members out into the community.

Students did various jobs from yard work, cleaning, packing boxes to send to the troops overseas, washing police cars, helping the elderly, beautifying the Pike Lake Beach, and so much more. Students were deployed in all four of the Hartford Area School Districts (Hartford Joint 1, Erin, HNR, and HHASD) the high school serves.

It is important for our students to learn to support their community that supports them. Businesses make up our community and those small businesses are the first ones to donate money, goods, and services to our student organizations, sporting events and fundraisers. It’s also important for them to learn how to be a contributing member of a community after high school. It’s these types of values we promote here at HUHS and will continue to with Day of Service for years to come.

We’d like to thank Quad Graphics, Hanks Eatery, Hartford Chamber of Commerce, Triton Trailer, Steel Craft, First National Bank of Hartford, Hahns Ace Hardware, ProAmpac, Helgesen Industries, Aurora Health Center, Broan, Mantz Automation, Signicast, Piggly Wiggly and Landmark Credit Union for their financial support. With their support we were able to supply the students with sunscreen, bag lunches, bus transportation, and t-shirts.

Aryan was featured on WTMJ 4 on Thursday, May 8th. The interview featured his teacher, Mrs. Thoma and focused on his work ethic and dedication to spelling. Aryan’s parents and grandparents were both in attendance. Aryan competed at the National Spelling Bee on May 31st. He was one of over 500 spellers from across the country.

So much to celebrate at HHASD! Graduation - On June 6th, the Richfield Middle School hosted its first ever graduation. The graduating class of 56 students was celebrated by friends and family. The event featured student speeches and a community dinner. Anna Pearce was awarded the Boby Frings Scholarship. This annual award is given to a Richfield Middle School student who demonstrates excellence in and out of the classroom. The graduating class presented a new sign as a gift to the school.

Retirements- On Tuesday, June 4th, Holy Hill Area School District celebrated the retirements of several employees at the Sawmill Restaurant.

Gail Blau served the district for 23 years as a school secretary; Sue Jahn served the district for 20 years as a special education teacher and reading specialist; Michelle Rusch served the district for 20 years as a paraprofessional; Debbie Thomsen served the district for 24 years as a guidance counselor.

May 16th Concert and Solo/Ensemble On Thursday, May 16th, the Richfield Middle School band and orchestra hosted their annual spring concert.

Parents, students, and staff enjoyed the presentation and celebrated the RMS students’ hard work and dedication. During the concert, Mr. Matheson shared that several band and orchestra students earned medals at the recent Hartford Central Middle School Solo/Ensemble competition. The student received their medals at the concert.

Richfield Art Show - On May 22nd, Mrs. Kassia Johnson hosted the annual Richfield Middle School Art Show. The show featured at least one project from every art student at RMS. Students supported each other and had a chance to walk through the art show and congratulate their peers. The show continued into the night for parents and family to attend. One of the highlights of the show was the “Monster Project.” The project was a collaboration between Friess Lake Elementary second graders and the Advanced Art students at Richfield Middle School.

Talent Show - On June 4th, Mrs. Thoma’s Page to Stage class, put on a performance of the “Great American Talent Show.”

The play featured students in 7th and 8th grade and was based on TV shows like American Idol and The Voice. Students, staff, and parents watched the play and supported the actors and actresses.

7th Grade Camp - On May 31st and June 1st, the 7th grade class from Richfield Middle School took its annual trip to Camp Minikani. The students canoed, played games, and stayed overnight. The trip to Minikani kicks off the transition to 8th grade and has traditionally been a great community builder.

8th Grade Chicago Trip - The school year culminated with the annual 8th grade trip to Chicago. The class watched a Blue Man Group performance, visited Millennium Park, and spent a day at Great America. The trip was a highlight for Richfield Middle School students and the class had a blast!

Spring Concert - On May 22nd, Friess Lake Elementary hosted its spring concert. The concert featured performances from each grade level.

Led by Mrs. Laura Blanco, students performed to a packed house.

Following the student performance, the audience was treated to a show from the Milwaukee Brass Five as part of the MSO’s Arts in Community Education program.

Trap Shooting Team

Congratulations HUHS Varsity Trap Team for taking home the Kettle Moraine Conference Championship Trophy (22 Teams – 800 athletes). The team has shot remarkably this year with many perfect scores and close competitions. This year we had 7 student athletes shoot in the Wisconsin State Junior Olympic Championships and we anticipate at least 5-10 that will go to Nationals. We still boast the largest School Trap Team in the Unites States with 132 student athletes competing every week. Including practice, conference meets, and state trap shoot, the athletes shot 90,075 targets for 2019 with practice rounds alone at 40,000 targets. Trap Shooting is the fastest growing high school sport in the nation which currently consists of well over 1000 teams nationwide.

Congratulations to the students who have won recognition at the SkillsUSA State Competition. The club took 25 competitors with 16 placing in their categories.

Ski Club Congratulations to Delaney Hennes and Ella Merklein for qualifying for State on the co-op Ski Club Team!

Congratulations Robotics Team 1091, Oriole Assault, For the 2018-2019 First Place win at Regionals with Robot “King Lenny”! The robotics team logged a total of 1,139 build hours, with each student averaging at about 75 build hours. 19 students and 12 Robotics Team mentors went to Nationals in Detroit.
