The Hugoton High School Class of 2015 graduated Saturday, May 16, in Hugoton. Music was provided by the high school band directed by Ms. Amy Freeman. The senior class choir representatives provided music with Director Trevor Waechter and pianist Ms. Angela Heger. Salutatory remarks were given by Kathryn Weaver and Valedictory remarks by Lauren Fox. Mrs. Chelle Leininger was in charge of awards and honors recognition. Two more young ladies join 1,000 Book Club at Hugoton Elementary Alaina Gold and Olivia Salmans are the latest pair to read 1000 books from Mrs. Omo's class. Alaina Gold, daughter of Jaime and Nicole Gold, is a reading machine! Alaina loves to read ANYWHERE! She has a special hanging chair in her bedroom that is her favorite place to read, but Alaina has also read at her big brother's track meet. When Alaina isn't reading she loves to play school. The board voted to transfer $1,000 from the Special Projects account to the checking account in order to pay the bills. Director Gillespie reported 11 applications for the Minnow Tank project are out and two have been returned. The deadline for these applications is May 19, 2015. Non-local judges have been selected. This grant program will award several matching grants of up to $5,000 to assist existing or new businesses located in Stevens County. The board voted to pay mileage to the judges. Neal asked the board if they would like him to invite Erik Pederson and Simone Elder to speak to the EcoDevo board about what would be involved to become an (Entrepreneur) E-Community. Jonah Wagner, 18, of Newton, son of Tim and Kim Silvernale-Wagner of Newton and grandson of Charles and Retha Wagner of Hugoton and Walt and Lois Silvernale of Newton, received his Eagle Scout Award Monday, May 18 at 6:25 p.m. during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church. The Eagle Scout Award is the highest rank in Boy Scouting. Requirements for earning this prestigious award include taking a leadership role in the Scout’s troop, earning 21 merit badges, and planning and executing an Eagle Scout service project. The Scout also must exemplify Scout spirit in

FCC Montana Beesley Scholarship of $1000 went to Mandy Mills. Mandy also received the $1000 Britta and Olian Thompson Memorial Scholarship. The Larry Seybold Memorial Scholarship of $500 went to Kimberly Cabezas and Amanda Mills. Memorial Day will be observed Monday, May 25. Services will take place at the Moscow Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. with Pastor Sean Schraeder officiating. Hot coffee and rolls will be available after the service. Hugoton’s service will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Hugoton Cemetery with Pastor Heath Kelley officiating. Services at the cemetery in Rolla will start at 9:00 a.m. and Richfield’s service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Please remember the nation’s heroes, as well as your passed loved ones, during the holiday weekend.
