Your enriching experience

Welcome to your 2024 – 25 guide to enrichment at HNC. Our enrichment offer is a core part of the HNC blueprint, and one of the key ways we provide opportunities for you to become your best self. Taking part in enrichment is therefore a crucial part of your HNC experience.

Key benefits:

1. Build your confidence and skills

How it works

All year round enrichments run throughout the academic year. If you are part of an all year round enrichment then this will count as your enrichment, although you are welcome to attend additional enrichments if you wish

Important information about dates and where enrichment will be optional

Enrichment takes place across two blocks. All enrichments (unless otherwise stated) take place during the lunch break.

Block 1: Commences w/c 18 November and concludes w/e 7 February (10 weeks)

Block 2: Commences w/c 24 February and concludes w/e 16 May (10 weeks)

...and of course, it is a crucial part of enabling you to become your best self!

1. Carefully review the list of enrichments available and create your shortlist – we advise that you choose a first choice, and two reserve options in case you do not secure your first choice option

2. It is important that you review the information in this booklet carefully, as we cannot change your booking

3. Bookings will open at 8.30am Wednesday 9 October and close Friday 18 October. Places are bookable on a first come, first served basis

All students will book one enrichment in one of these blocks, unless you participate in one of the activities below. If this is the case, then additional enrichment is optional – however, if you book a space to take part then you must attend any booking you make.

You can opt to not book an opportunity if you already do one of the following things:

- DofE

- Student Council

4. On this day you must only book one enrichment in one block

5. Once booked, your enrichment will appear in your timetable ahead of 4 November and contain further information about the room location for your enrichment

• Your booked enrichment will appear in your timetable and provide information about the room your enrichment will take place in. You must attend and your attendance will be recorded

• Bookings are on a first come, first served basis. Places are not guaranteed, and once a session is full, it is full – therefore you should be prepared when bookings open to give yourself the best chance of securing your chosen enrichment

• If you do not book something by the deadline, you will be allocated an enrichment by College staff and required to attend this

• Wish to attend more than more than one enrichment? Once bookings have closed, a list will be released of enrichments that have remaining availability. Students are very welcome to attend additional enrichments as available and as they wish

– further details about accessing enrichment extras will be released in due course

All students will be sent a link to book via MS Teams. This will be released at 8.30am on Wednesday 9 October October with places on a strictly first come, first served basis. Volunteer in a primary schoolexternally delivered opportunities

HNC works in partnership with Kirklees Council to offer three distinct programmes which will see you receiving specialist training and then going into a primary school to put your skills and knowledge into action as a volunteer. This is a perfect enrichment for any student looking to give back, and is particularly perfect for any student looking at a career in primary teaching or other role working with young children.

Please note that while this can count as your enrichment, places are limited due to the nature of what it involves. Should demand exceed capacity, an interview/ shortlisting process will apply. It is also important to note that each programme incorporates dates of training you must attend and following this, you will then volunteer in a school to deliver the programme you have been trained in. It is therefore important to note that this is a significant commitment of your time. Naturally, taking part will offer you so much in return, provide you with unique experiences and skills and is great for your personal statement. You’ll also be able to give back!

The programmes Maths Mate Volunteer

Discover how you can promote a love of reading in young children, boosting their confidence, reading ability and enjoyment of books. Following your training, you’ll volunteer in a primary school to help inspire children to enjoy
