Modular versus conventional refineries Any conventional petroleum refinery is a plant where crude oils are transformed into usable products like petrol, kerosene and many other petroleum bi products. For petroleum industry, the refinery is one of the most important part. Any typical refinery company consists of several processes that runs round the clock and at every process there are few bi products produced which are used in our day to day life. On the other hand, mini refineries are created based on the concept of modular refinery where complete process is not followed but only part of the process is carried out. Here the refining unit works independently or can be inter connected with subsequent process based on the need. Here the operations can be carried out within limited amount of space. Also, there is no need for huge manpower. The process can be automated and only few operators can run the process.

Basic features of any conventional refineries are: 

It is a huge plant fully constructed on its site

It can produce all range of petroleum products

Can process many kinds of crudes by varying the process parameters.

It can be configured based on the need of production
