4TH OF JULY AGENT MEMORIES & RECIPES KYLE'S DEVILED EGGS

Ingredients: KYLE MISNER

RACHEL HALLER

6 hard boiled eggs, cooled & peeled 1 tsp whole pink peppercorns, divided ½ tsp whole white peppercorns ½ tsp whole black peppercorns ½ tsp whole green peppercorns ½ tsp caper liquid ¼ cup mayonnaise 1 tsp Dijon mustard ¼ tsp kosher salt Pinch of sugar

Directions: Slice the eggs in half from top to bottom. Scoop the yolks into a medium mixing bowl and lay the whites aside. Place all of the peppercorns - except 1/2 teaspoon of the pink peppercorns into a spice grinder and process until ground well. Add the ground peppers, caper liquid, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and sugar to the egg yolks and using a fork, stir to thoroughly combine. Place the mixture into a zip-top plastic bag and cut a small hole at one of the corners. Pipe the mixture into each of the white halves. Coarsely grind the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of pink peppercorns and use to garnish the top of each egg. Chill for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator before serving.

"My favorite Fourth of July memory would have to be the year my mom, sister, niece, and I decided to go to Destin. That whole week, we laid out by the ocean, only removing ourselves from the sand to grab something to eat. On the Fourth of July we left the beach early, got ourselves all cleaned up, and put on matching outfits! We drove down to Baytown which has beautiful cobblestone streets, shopping, and amazing restaurants. We shopped 'til we dropped, stuffed ourselves like turkeys, and ended the night watching the spectacular fireworks show over the ocean while we stood on the boardwalk looking up at the sky with bewilderment. It was just a blissful, peaceful, wonderful day and I will never forget it."

BURGER BEANS

Ingredients: MELINDA MARTIN

1 large can (28 oz) Bush’s Original Baked Beans ¼ cup brown sugar ½ of a yellow onion, diced 1lb ground beef ¼ cup ketchup (add or reduce based on your taste)

Directions: Empty the can of baked beans into a large pan and cook over low heat. In a separate pan, fry the ground beef. Once cooked, drain the beef and add it to the baked beans. Stir in the brown sugar until dissolved. Add ketchup and stir until evenly distributed. Finally, add in the diced onion. Let simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes. Serve to your family and start a new tradition!

Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks

Never shoot fireworks off in metal or glass containers

Back up immediately after lighting fireworks

Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishaps

Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully

Light fireworks one at a time

Douse used fireworks with plenty of water before discarding to prevent a trash fire

Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities

Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them

Avoid buying fireworks that are packaged in brown paper, as these are generally made for professional displays only

pro tips 1. Arrive early! Be sure to leave plenty of time for setup/cleanup. 2. Check the wind direction before setting up the grill. 3. Use frozen water bottles instead of ice in your cooler. (less messy and you have cold water to drink after they melt)

SUMMER SUIT FASHION

When the temperatures are on the rise, it doesn't mean your fashion has to suffer! Hot weather means you have the opportunity to change out your dark, heavy weight suits for light, airy options. Go for tan, pale grey, and bright blue suits. Crisp white, baby blue, and pale pink are great staple shirt colors for summer. By going neutral in the shirt and suit colors that gives you room to play with color in your accessories. Keep it fun in the summer time!

Suit: Hart Schaffner Marx

FABRIC 101

When choosing office fashion for the summer months, keep fabric and fit in mind. Flannels, tweeds, herringbones, and cashmeres are warmer options for winter months; while linens, cottons and seersuckers are more ideal for summer months.

TIE OPTIONAL

Guys... don't be scared to try a no tie look! This can be done many ways including: dress shirt with top unbuttoned, dressy tee shirt, or a 3 button collared shirt. Having trouble tying the colors together? Use a patterned pocket square to finish it off and create a more polished look.

Suit: Hart Schaffner Marx ALL ABOUT THE SHOES

Summer months mean summer shoes. I always recommend a light brown lace up or monk strap with a suit. Sport coats and chinos look great with a loafer or a white tennis shoe.

Shoes: Cole Haan

CityYouth Ministries Executive Director Tell us a little about yourself. HC: I'm an Alumna of Arkansas State University and fell in love with the city of Jonesboro while I was in college. I'm from Quitman, Arkansas and the running joke in my hometown is that there are more cows than people (which is probably true). Q: How did you get involved with CityYouth Ministries? HC: I have always known about CityYouth, but while I was working at MicroSociety Elementary School, I got to see firsthand the impact that CityYouth had on the students and on the community. I am honored to serve in this role to help the organization continue to grow and prosper.

Q: What inspires/fuels you? HC: Getting to help and serve others. There is nothing more motivating to me than helping someone. Q: What's your vision for CityYouth Ministries? HC: I would love to see a deeper level of collaboration with the families that we serve as well as getting to create a program for students in 9th-12th grade to adequately prepare them for the workforce and for college.
