Field Researcher Safety Guidelines Field safety hazard assessments and safety guidelines are often overlooked over confusion around who is ultimately responsible for addressing the required safety elements. Due to the breadth of the hazards and complexity of addressing mitigation measures, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) has developed a resource to help guide these efforts and provide a consistent method of documentation. Certain activities, locations, or utilization of equipment may require specific training such as swift water, use of tools or hazardous equipment, heat illness, etc. For help meeting training requirements, or for a copy of their resource document, check their website or reach out to EH&S at (707) 826-3302.

2024 SPF Per Diem Rate Changes Effective Jan. 1, 2024, SPF Per Diem Rates have increased. SPF travelers can begin using the higher rates immediately, however the change will be phased in over time and we will continue to honor rates that were already budgeted for current grants.

Check out our interactive map! If there are any projects that you’d like to see added, you can leave suggestions here.

Going forward SPF will maintain the new fixed rates below: Breakfast - $20.00; Lunch - $25.00; Dinner - $30.00 Reimbursements will be made for meal expenses for travel up to $75 per day + $7 per day of incidentals (receipts are not required for expenses that fall within this total amount).

Hospitality Policy Updates Beginning Jan. 19, 2024, SPF hospitality reimbursements and ProCard purchases are subject to recent California State University Hospitality Policy updates, which were communicated campus-wide in August 2023. SPF hospitality processing is parallel to Cal Poly Humboldt’s with minor exceptions:

The Team Review Program is designed to facilitate review and direct feedback on your grant proposal from an expert (or experts) in your field. For more info, click here.

1) SPF hospitality reimbursements must be submitted to Accounts Payable using the appropriate DocuSign PowerForm, found in the SPF Forms Library. 2) SPF ProCard reconciliations that include hospitality expenses must include one ‘SPF Hospitality Form for ProCards’ per event, and a copy of the form must be inserted behind each related hospitality receipt in the reconciliation packet. Failure to use the updated forms will result in a rejection of the reimbursement, or may result in temporary suspension of your ProCard. For questions, contact Raven Arnold, SPF Accounts Payable Coordinator, at ra363@humboldt.edu.

Hourly Wage & Mileage Rate Increase This is a reminder that as of Jan. 1 2024, there are changes to the California minimum wage and IRS guidelines for mileage rates on travel-related expenses. NEW Minimum Wage for SPF employees are as follows: Non-Exempt Employees - $16.00 per hour Exempt Employees - $32.00 per hour NEW Mileage Rate for Travel Claims: per hour increased from $0.655 to $0.67 per mile
