KARYAKARTA MESSAGE
By Ashwini ji, DE Vibhag Boudhik Pramukh
Namaste Bala friends,
This month is truly auspicious. A month to celebrate birth of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram and Mahabali Hanuman.
Bhagwan Ram is symbol of virtue, truth and righteousness. Ram Navmi is observed by millions of Hindu devotees worldwide on ninth day of Chaitra month and typically falls in March or April month. Bhagwan Ram teaches that as a son, one should respectfully and lovingly obey orders of parents. As a brother, one should be loyal and care for siblings. And King should sacrifice life and put kingdom ahead of own needs.
The second most auspicious festival is Hanuman Jayanti. Birth of Veer Hanuman who exemplified courage, selflessness and dedication is celebrated on full moon day(poornima) of chaitra month. He is nothing but symbol of strength, righteousness and devotion to Bhagwan Ram. He is considered as a patron deity of wrestling. His stories and teachings inspire millions of devotees to overcome obstacles and cultivate humility and service to humanity. On top of all these he teaches us importance of physical strength and intelligence.
Balas, I firmly believe you all have definitely celebrated Ram Navmi and Hanuman jayanti with full of enthusiasm and devotion.
As you all are prepping for your final exams, STAAR tests and recitals for extracurriculars, who gives you the strength to accomplish all these activities and unmatched intellect to excel in exams? None other than our beloved Mahabali Hanuman.
I am sure you all are looking forward to summer break after all these tests. Good luck to you all and enjoy your upcoming summer vacations !!!
Khel- My Favorite Shakha Activity
~By Vibhav Oza, Pragathi Shakha
What is Khel?
Khel, this unique word said in many Indian languages is every kid's favorite time of the day- playtime and games. In our Shakha too, we do Khel. Kids usually do Khel when the adults are in another room, doing their adult Khel. This is the part of Shakha every Bala and Kishore is waiting for.
Types of Khel
There are many types of Khel, usually separated in age groups, such as Bala Khel-(Pre-K to 5th), Kishore Khel-(6th to college), Tarun Khel-(adults and grandparents.) There are also types of Khel separated by the type of game. For example, there are relay games. In relay games, there are two teams, and both teams are trying to do something quicker than the other team. These are some examples- running relay and jumping relay. There’s also Mandal Khel, where everybody sits or stands in a circle and does the purpose of the game. These are some examples- memory game, silent ball, dodgeball, and flowing stream. There are also group games. These are the types of games that you can’t really consider a relay game or a mandal game. Some examples are- the alligator game and elimination.
Why Do We Do Khel?
This is a very good question to ask. There are many different reasons we do Khel. One reason is exercise. It is very important to exercise so you stay in shape. Exercise is one of the most important things in our daily routine. Another reason we do Khel is discipline. We have to have lots of discipline to move on in life. Listening to the rules of new games is perfect practice, and some of the games are complicated, so if you don’t listen, you won’t know how to play the game. Last but not least, fun. Every kid has the right to have fun, and it is the most important reason we do Khel.
My Favorite Khel
I like lots of games that we play at Shakha. But I have only one game that I like the most. It’s dodgeball! This is probably the most basic game that we play in Shakha, and we play it all the time. I like this game because of how easy and basic it is. And it also includes everybody. I hope more kids will join our Shakha or other HSS Shakhas to enjoy playing Khel.

My Spring Break Movies
~By Suksha Basavaraj, Prerana Shakha
My friends and I went to watch the movie Sonic 3 with our parents. In Sonic the hedgehog 3, Sonic and his friends Tails and Knuckles go on an exciting adventure to stop a new enemy named Shadow. Shadow is a powerful black hedgehog who wants to use a big weapon called the Eclipse cannon to destroy the world. Sonic and his friends even have to work with the bad guy Dr. Robotnik to stop Shadow. Along the way, they travel to cool places, fight big battles, and learn more about each other In the end, Sonic uses the Chaos Emerald to turn into Super Sonic and save the day. It’s a fun action-packed movie with a surprise at the end.
My parents and I went to watch Moana 2. In Moana 2, Moana goes on a brand-new adventure a few years after her first journey. This time, she sails with a team of friends to find a lost island called Motu Fetu, which was hidden under the sea by a storm god named Nalo. Along the way, she faces tough challenges like pirate coconuts and a powerful enemy named Matangi. Moana struggles at times, but with help from Maui, her ancestors, and her friends, she finds the courage to keep going. In the end, she saves the island and even becomes a demigoddess. The movie ends with a big celebration and hints that more adventures are coming!

My Backyard Garden
~By Ishwar Shivakumar, Prerana Shakha
What I grow in my garden
Plants I grow in my garden are Okra, Jalapeños, Tomatoes, Bell peppers, Spinach, Ridge gourds, Carrots, Bitter gourds, Bottle gourds, Radish, Dill leaves, and Asparagus. Sometimes we also grow Beans, and Swiss chard. We also grow fruits such as Fig, Banana, Pear, Apple, and Persimmon.
About Gardening
My opinion on gardening is that we should start putting seeds in pots near the beginning of Spring on a sunny day (water very well). My favorite plants to grow are Okra. Okra is my favorite plant because it grows fast and grows a lot of it. My favorite part of gardening is that I can dig holes in the soil and plant the sprouted plants in the ground. I help my parents with gardening by watering the plants and pulling the weeds.
