Insights into the study program

The Master’s degree program in Information and Cyber Security at the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology is an internationally oriented degree program that is offered entirely in English. The program comprises 120 ECTS credits and is designed to be completed over six semesters (three years) while working.

Focus: Cyber security for specialists and managers

Focus Areas

The Master’s program offers indepth expertise in cyber security, with a focus on penetration testing, teaming (red, blue, purple), defensive security, and forensics, complemented by hands-on cyber challenges and tabletop exercises.

It also enhances communication skills for internal collaboration and external communication, as well as leadership competencies in team management and professional responsibility. The practical application based on a scientific foundation completes the program.

Semester structure and content

In the first semester, you will deepen your knowledge from the Bachelor’s program and address advanced technologies and security concepts. The focus is on innovative technologies and comprehensive security approaches for professional practice.

In the second semester, you will enhance your management skills in the security and technology sector and strengthen your writing and communication skills for the clear communication of technical information.

The third semester focuses on leadership and media communication, teaching you how to combine leadership and management at the executive level with effective communication.

The fourth semester deals with the economic and regulatory aspects of cyber security, including economic fundamentals and relevant regulatory frameworks.

The fifth semester focuses on current technologies and innovations in cyber security, particularly trends and the application of artificial intelligence (AI).

In the final semester, you will work on your master’s thesis, a practice-oriented project that consolidates and deepens your knowledge.

Admission requirements

Applicants need a Bachelor’s degree in cyber security, computer science, or equivalent knowledge. The qualification can be demonstrated through a ‘sur dossier’ examination or recognized certifications. The international focus of the program is emphasized by a proposed double degree cooperation with international partner universities.

Master’s programs offer a broader training than Bachelor’s programs, focusing on design, architecture, and collaborating with stakeholders.
