WOU holds meeting to kick-off

BUKA

(Better Universities and Knowledge for All)

Wawasan Open University held a kick-off meeting on the joint Better Universities and Knowledge for All (BUKA) project themed ‘Advancing Equity and Access to Higher Education through Open and Distance Learning​’ at the Parkroyal Penang Resort in Batu Ferringhi from 4th to 6 th February 2020. The aim of the meeting was to work out the research agenda for the project, focusing on the collaboration between the various partners. The participants discussed the expectations, mission and goals for the project, looking at six key areas: Roles and Responsibilities; Reporting to the European Commission; Project Administration; Quality Assurance and Management; BUKA project timeline; and BUKA project logical framework.

Over the two next years, the BUKA project will focus on developing two interventions on Inclusive Instructional Design and Learning Analytics. As part of this project, WOU will be required to set up a Learning Studio to conduct studies on these two interventions, with the pilot study expected to commence sometime this year in WOU.

WOU welcomes new students to seaside campus!

Thirty-six students from the February 2020 intake for on-campus learning attended the recent orientation held at the main campus.

On hand to welcome them was Penang Regional Centre Assistant Manager Rina Julian Nazrin Julian and Chief Operating Officer and Registrar, Mr Yeong Sik Kheong, who represented the Vice Chancellor in delivering the opening speech.

Freshman Boovanraaj Jegathesan, 21, who enrolled to pursue the Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Management programme, led the new students in the oath-taking.

The orientation also saw the presentation of certificates by Mr Yeong to recipients of the Dean’s List award for the May 2019 semester. A total of 40 students were named to the Dean’s List for their excellent academic results.

Wawasan Open University (WOU), in collaboration with The HEAD Foundation and the Asian Women’s Leadership Project Malaysia Berhad organized the above talk on 13 Feb 2020.

Lee Soo-Inn, co-founder and CEO of Enuma spoke about the potential of educational apps in stimulating active learning and teaching young children to learn independently.

Lee an accomplished cartoonist, game designer and corporate strategist in the video game industry had won the US$15-Million Global Learning XPRIZE Award by Elon Musk for Child Literacy.

She began developing educational software for children with learning disabilities and founded Enuma a mission-driven organisation devoted to designing accessible games and applications that help all children learn independently.

The mySalam national health protection scheme is an initiative started by the Government that aims to provide 8 million with free takaful protection.

This initiative became a reality via a collaboration with an insurance provider, Great Eastern Holdings. This collaboration is an exemplary instance of a credible Public Private Partnership model aimed at building a better social protection network for the Malaysian public.
